This recipe, from King Arthur Baking, is a very simple way to achieve the flavour and texture of an English Muffin, but is much easier to make. Perfect for toasting with an open texture and great flavour.

The King Arthur website is hubby's favorite for bread recipes. I'm certainly going to ask him to make this for me. We sell at the store I work at (Wal-Mart), a bread called English Toasting Bread. It makes the most excellent grilled cheese sandwiches and good old toast for jam. I'm hoping this will be very similar as even at Wally World, I feel it is a bit pricey.

Hi Karen. That website is very good, from what I have seen. I am guessing the English Toasting Bread is white, and thickly sliced. That is how we have it over here.

@@geoffsbakingblog Actually, it's thinly sliced. Our bread is typically thinly sliced. If it's thick, we call it Texas toast. Who knows why!

I first discovered the Wally world English bread then began making the King Arthur recipe for the bread machine . Someimes it comes out too dense. Any suggestions? Thanks

I’m making the bread now. It is proofing, but I forgot to sprinkle pan with cornmeal. I hope it will be ok. It is easy to pull together so I do hope it turns out for me. Thank you for the recipe.

Hi Mark. I hope your mother does enjoy the bread. The microphone is upside down to help eliminate any 'breathy' noises as i bend my head down as i work whilst speaking.

HI Janet, yest oat milk would work well. I use milk, but I will also try with my coconut almond milk that I use for my porridge, should be great.

Quick question, on your blog in ingredients it says 1/4 tsp of baking soda ( presume thats bicarbonate of soda) then on the method it says baking powder, so double checking which one is correct, thanks

Question, does it matter which type of milk? Like can I use powder or oat milk perhaps ?

HI Vanessa. You can use whichever type of milk you wish. I would reconstitute powdered milk to the volume required.
