Learn English with Dr. Shashi Tharoor. British colonialism left devastating legacies around the world. Dr. Shashi Tharoor's latest book, Inglorious Empire: What the British Did to India, is a post-colonial reassessment, exposing the sins of an empire. From the arrival of the East India Company until the end of the British Raj, this book tells the true story of the British in India. Tharoor spent 29 years at the UN, where he culminated as Under-Secretary-General. He has written fifteen books and won numerous literary awards, including the Commonwealth Writers' Prize. At Antidote Festival, he spoke with Ben Doherty of the Guardian.
English speeches with big subtitles make it even more enjoyable. Watch, learn, and share.

HE REALLY DESERVES TO BE THE BEST PRIME MINISTER AFTER NEHRU. HIS MODESTY AND COURTESY ARE WORTH EMULATING. I WOULD LIKE TO KISS THE FEET OF THIS GREAT PERSONA FOR HIS ERUDITION. Malevolence is something that protrudes out of the galore of tranches available in the dark hearts of cruel Britishers, angl oindians. It showed them as an excerbating machine doing carnage in every ambience they leer in. This is the real face of britishers as inhumane existing creatures with precarious canines that can pierce through the skins of destitute and poor Indians

Only a true patriot like Dr Tharoor can criticise the British based on not just hearsay facts but on actual happenings that the British dared to commit and get away with. We salute his knowledge of history and a man of his stature actually belongs to the whole world. He is the only person it seems who has such vast knowledge of the true history of the subcontinent and also at the same time the courage to disclose that truth without any fear or favour. Undoubtedly an unparalleled personality held in high esteem by, I am sure, the whole world. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@billprendgergast8976 with all due respect you should consider the works done by several travellers and scholars who visited ancient India and described the same ...for your reference I'm giving you a list of books 1. How many times the Great Britain was invaded by invaders? Britain was under the constant invasions of Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, and Normans. We don't need to address our country as British India, moreover what we have to rather explicate is Celtic Britain, Roman Britain, Norman Britain and Anglo-Saxon Britain.

Words 'freedom' or 'individual human rights' were foreign to Indian culture. Vegetarian community had accepted Muslim minority's rule as will of God. Plus, internal discrimination in Hinduism had snatched all kind of rights from low caste communities. So atleast Hindus shouldn't criticise British occupation for apartheid or trampling of human rights. One could argue that Britain could have done more for general progress of Indians. But so far as individual human rights and equality among Indians ( leaving tiny European population aside ) were concerned, Britain left a very positive impression on Indian culture. Even low caste could compete in Indian Civil Service examination and become an administrator. This was a change which Britain brought to India. It is upto Indians whether they take it as a positive change or violation of their religious teachings.

And when India is doing same thing in Kashmir . They ban the press , speech and every other freedom . Google it, for how much time internet was shutdown from Kashmir in the past years. You'll get the idea that it's the same thing India is doing with Kashmir what was done to them by British . And indeed Indians are proud too of there autocratic rule in Kashmir. So i guess it's basic human nature to be overwhelmed and be proud of his power when used to curb down innocent voices
