Oh you're so wonderful to bring up these two adjectives. I should have mentioned them! So here are my explanations: Both can refer to a general nature, but "economical" refers a person's behavior or character. If they're not wasteful, they're economical. "Economic" is used with things that relate to a society's or country's economy: economic activity.

Super job, Catherine! Historical fiction is indeed a genre. Personally, I've also read historical romance. You're right. It can bring to life certain historic events because we see what they were like for people (the characters) we've come to know. See you on the Community Tab. I remember that you were one of the students. :) It was a good question! Word frequency is also important to understand. If a word is rarely used, it's likely not worth studying and adding to your active vocabulary. Just understand it passively (so it makes sense when you hear it or read it).

It's definitely time for me to start thinking of a new text. Another possibility, though, is addressing formal vs. informal English. Advanced speakers should be comfortable switching between the two. That would be a fun lesson to make.

Hi Claire. I'm glad this lesson was useful. :) It's strange, I know, that some words are in the dictionary, but we don't really use them. "Politic" is one. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/politic You're correct to use "political orientation" - your daughter's general outlook and position on issues. However, in the case of your brother, "a politic man" sounds unclear and awkward to me. Perhaps you mean: - he's well-informed on political issues. OR - he's a law-abiding citizen. Do you think one of those is accurate?

JenniferESL Hi! What I tried to say about my brother is that he is super well-behaved in the way in which he treats other people, either they are known or strangers. He's kind, patient and a very good father and uncle. I look up to he so much! In Spanish we tend to say that a person is politically correct, when that person never loses control, whatever he faces.

Yes, you can use that word "politically correct." But it's not exactly the same as kind and patient. "Politically correct" refers to the practice of choosing language that doesn't cause offense and is inclusive. It sounds like your brother is very considerate and kind to both friends and strangers. He sounds like a wonderful person. :)

Love your examples! Incidentally, I watched part of Apollo 13 last weekend. It's a good film. Did you see it? Corrections/suggestions: (2) Electronic devices have become AN integral part of our everyday life. (3) School buses in Canada and the U.S are a glossy yellow. Hi Jennifer, thank you for support. I have a question, what is the meaning of letter "S" that is in the last of this sentence? Humans have been burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas ever since the Industrial Revolution began in the 1800s. As you know I translated that and I have known that means century, but why that especially letter "S"? thank you

Hi Ahmed. So we put on the -s to indicate a reference to the whole century. In the 1800s means from 1800 to 1899. Sometimes we focus on a specific part: in the early 1800s, in the late 1800s, in the mid-1800s. Or we speak more generally: throughout the 1800s. Good question!

Hi. Suffixes and prefixes are important to learn. Reading helps a lot. You need exposure to these different word parts --in a meaningful context! I've been meaning to give more attention to suffixes at some point. Maybe I'll do that sooner rather than later. Mam!! Longman dictionary available in play store but there is two one is longman and second one is advance longman dictionary which one good ... Could you tell me please?

If there's a basic and advanced, I'd go with the advanced one. It has more entries. I only use that dictionary on my PC. www.ldoceonline.com/

Yes, you'll hear that. In the kitchen you can have a gas or electric range/stove. We have an electric teapot. The dishwasher would be an example of an electrical appliance.

Ugh, this whole video is very important, but very confusing at the same time. CAN I SAY... The city of Boston is historical OR Boston is a historic city!?!?!?????? Learning English is hard!

You're not alone in your confusion. Even native speakers get those two adjectives mixed up. If you mix them up, you'll still be understood, but for accuracy, associate "historic" with things that are important in history: a historic occasion, a historic landmark, a historic decision, etc. Remember these examples for "historical," which means they're related to history or about history: historical fiction, historical society. I'd likely go with "historic Boston" because Boston has played an important role in history, especially during the American Revolution.
