Hello Jennifer! Nice to see you! Thanks a lot for the lesson! Very useful! To your questions: 1. There is another way to handle it. I prefer to keep a distance from such a person. 2. I hate the morning. It's difficult for me to get up early. 3. I don't know. Life itself is not a bed with roses. Any additional obligations make our life harder, I suppose. Unfortunately, I didn't pass your test successfully. I'll do it next time:)

Hi Sergei. Thanks for putting in the extra effort. Suggestion: 1. There is another way to handle it. I prefer to keep my distance from such a person. Retry the test. You definitely are allowed a second chance! :) See you again soon for another lesson.

@@Englishwithjennifer Thank you, Jennifer! I've realized your suggestion. Thinking in the English manner is difficult for me at present. In my sentence originally, I meant something like some distance that is not zero and, unfortunately, couldn't express my thought accurately. As for the test, I'll try to pass it again.

I love the lessons on the phrasal verbs and also enjoy the lessons with the little movie clips. Quiz: 1. I like to sit down and discuss differences in a calm and relaxed fashion. It is well worth noting that most disagreements are no more than storms in teacups. Surely resolving disagreements is better than letting them fester. 2. I can either get up early or awake in the afternoon. If I have been working on a project through the night, I will not surface until the second half of the following day. This is the reason I do big projects over the weekend. 3. It is not difficult to borrow money, but it is extremely hard to free oneself of debt. If anything, I would say that it is too easy to take out loans. My advice would always be: consider the repayments first. I was struggling to work out what that last swear word was by the way. I think I worked out, though! LOL!

Thanks for the support. Love your responses. I'll remember the "storms in teacups" phrase. Good point: loans can be all too easily given! Re: swear word. I think I was just hitting keys on the keyboard at that point.

Naming anything, such as streets, cities, or places requires falling intonation. Asking about such things requires rising intonation. Listing such things can use a combination of intonation patterns. I go over intonation in lists. :) My private students get even more practice and more sophisticated exercises.

what is the difference between the expressions and idioms ?
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
An idiom is a figurative expression. You can't necessarily guess the meaning from the words alone. An expression is a way of saying something. Idiom = You hit the nail on the head. (You're exactly right.) Expression = I keep trying day after day. (day after day = every day, for a long time) You may find this lesson useful. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eZmDpLGlqd6YhYE.html

Mam, one doubt. Combine using participles. The politician entered the campus. He was accompanied by many camrades. I prefer: *being accompanied by many camrades, the politician entered the campus*. Am I right mam???. Kindly check whether it is necessary to use *being* or not mam.
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Please remember I have a lesson on reducing adverb clauses to phrases. My suggestion: The politician entered the campus accompanied by many comrades. If you have many questions you'd like to ask, you can consider booking a 30-minute lesson. I'm not able to take on a new student for weekly lessons, but I could schedule a single session this month.

What is a load off? 🤔
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
A load is a heavy amount of something: a load of books, a load of laundry, a load of bricks, a load of trash. Our own body weight is a load to carry. So to take a load off your feet is to sit down and stop carrying around all your weight.

In not asking you to roll over on anything. Please what does this mean (roll over)
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
This has multiple meanings. I don't use "roll over" this way. I suppose they're saying you don't have to compromise or give up. I don't know the full context www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/roll-over
@stunninglad13 жыл бұрын
"Roll over" is an interesting one. I always compare this to a command we give to a dog. We ask a dog to roll over, and it does. So, if we are giving a command to someone, and the other person obeys too easily, we could say that they "rolled over" to our wish/command/plan. He does what he is told and should roll over without a fuss. I hope she does not roll over and asks questions before signing that policy.

But how can people understand this language if each its characters is endowerd with an innumerable amount of different sounds that no one can ever understand which is the right one to attribute to It.
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Francesco. The number of sounds corresponding to a letter or combination of letters isn't infinite. It's a matter of learning the possible spelling patterns for a sound. You can Google spelling patterns or resources for phonics. Many of the common words we simply learn by sight.
@francescoantonioamoroso66813 жыл бұрын
@@Englishwithjennifer For example the vowel "a" has the beauty of 9 different sounds, I see written this vowel and which sound should I use? I am completely blown away. So in the English alphabet with 26 characters, 26 sounds do not correspond, but many more. Crazy!
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
Tip 1 You can learn these kinds of patterns: a + consonant + silent e = long a /eɪ/ as in ate, lane, cape, etc. a + double consonant = short a /eɪ/ as in matter, ladder Again, Google spelling patterns for a review. Phonics resources may also help strengthen your familiarity with sound-letter correspondence. Tip 2 Be sure you're saying the most common words correctly. You'll recognize a lot of them by sight already. A learner's dictionary will confirm the correct pronunciation(s). Then when you see less familiar words, they'll likely have patterns that you're already familiar with. You'll find the most common words in word lists such as the General Service List and the Academic Word List. Tip 3 Reading along with a recording can help. Audio books, read-along videos, and oral reading apps can let you hear a good model while you read the text. This will reinforce the correct pronunciation of words.
@francescoantonioamoroso66813 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your suggestions, but they are only a small thing compared to the whole English language phonics problem. Always remaining for example on the vowel "a", in the language there are not only short words like "ate", "lane", etc.. , but also long words like for example "castaway" in which the vowel "a" occurs several times and this vowel must be pronounced in different ways that no one knows. A complicated language!
@Englishwithjennifer3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but little by little you can learn patterns. Unstressed vowels usually reduce to the schwa sound. that explains why the second "a" in "castaway" is /ə/. Another pattern: "ay" is usually a long "a"."
