Enrique Martínez Celaya, Provost Professor of Humanities and Arts at the University of Southern California and Roth Family Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Dartmouth College, will speak about his work, his life and exile, unexpected career turns, the positive guidance offered by mentorship and higher standards, the value of thinking out of the box, and the validity of truth.
Bio
Martínez Celaya is an artist, author, and former scientist whose work is in over 50 public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford. Martínez Celaya is the first Visual Arts Fellow of the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, a fellow of the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities, and the first Visual Arts Fellow of the Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation. He is also the author of books and papers in art, poetry, philosophy, and physics, as well as issued patents on laser devices.
