Dragons' Den

4 жыл бұрын

Tracie Herrtage is asking for a £54,000 investment in return for a 30% equity stake in 'Le Beanok'. Le Beanok combines the unique experience of the weightlessness of a hammock with the comfort of a beanbag/bed but Peter isn't interested in the off-putting retail price.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

You say that, but unlike most sofas, you could very easily take the covers off and put them in the washing machine. You could also buy new covers and change the colour... not so easy with a settee. With a bit of work, this product will do fine. The biggest issue, which isn't product related will be the safety aspect when hanging it up. It has very specific requirements. This will be on the buyer though, not her so long as she covers legal issues with warnings and disclaimers. Price point shouldn't be pitched against sofas though, because they only cost so much because they are usually made in multiple countries and have to be shipped around on containers during the construction process. Very expensive! If made in a single country, they'd be way more environmentally friendly. It isn't a million dollar product, but it'll do fine. The key thing would be to suspend it on 2 chains rather than 4... smaller imprint, more likely to fit in most rooms with strong enough beams. Disaster it isn't. Hope she has a bit of luck. Someone with a good business head involved can make a world of difference. I've worked in furniture... people are weird and buy almost anything. Something different sells, you might be suprised.

Right?? It certainly doesn't look like a thousand pound piece of furniture, it looks quite cheap, if I'm being honest. And how do you lie down in one without falling right out? You can't even relax in it, cuz you have to constantly work your leg muscles to stop from wobbling all over. And on top of all that, you can't even move the thing! What if you wanted to redo the layout of the room? You can't, not without going through all that effort of drilling even more holes in the ceiling.
@Treblaine

Bafflingly, she tried to market this as a gaming chair and a sofa for special needs. Lady, I'm not special needs and even I can't use that thing. It looks miserable to clamber in and out of, and you can't even have a coffee table with it! Can you imagine trying to host company with those things? "Welcome everyone! Please, have a seat. Oh it's easy to get in, here, you just swing your leg over and...yes, that's it, now the other one...oh, be careful! Are you hurt? Here, let me help...hold on, stop kicking...ok, now you gotta sort of twist your body the other way...no no, the OTHER way....give me your foot, you're a bit tangled...no, your butt's supposed to be facing the other direction...now just put your arm over that side and pull yourself up...ah! There we go. Comfy, right? By the way, I hope you all ate and drank before coming over, cuz there isn't really any way to hold a cup or set a plate down in here. Now, isn't this fun?"

Debbie Sunlight actually there is a market for this. this item is obviously a resort & luxury product not a diy project. 8 out of 10 luxury resorts ive visited or even those i’ve just seen pictures of have some sort of hanging bedframe / sofa / hammock contraption. it would also fit into an avant garde / minimalist luxury home where it hangs in a corner as a statement piece not really to sit on. however i have to say seeing that she isnt a known designer 1000£ is quite a bit for this design. 300-400£ would probably be more reasonable. if she was famous at 1000£ people would buy it. if she isnt know then for 1000£ it would need to come with a frame, or a different design that incorporates a frame, either in metal or wood.

I quite like the concept. They look like they'd be very cosy and comfortable to sit in. My two main reservations would be that once they're in place, they're not easily moved. One of the advantages of a sofa is that it's easy to rearrange them if you want a change. Not so easy to do, when moving a Le Beanok requires you to dismantle the attachments, fill in the holes in the ceiling and drill new holes. My second issue is the aesthetic of the chains. They look a bit too S&M. I see those chains and half expect to see Pinhead swinging in the Le Beanok attached to them.
