Got’m! Laced up with DT Swiss to ceramic Chris King bourbon ano hubs. Rolling on Gravel King 32mm Slicks at 50-55 psi. Thanks JOM for confirming what I now know.

Kudos on the great review! I am looking into buying a custom Ventum GS1 with wheel options being ENVE G23/AG25/SES 3.4 and ZIPP 303S/303FIRECREST. I am leaning towards G23 because I am afraid of poor wind compliance of the deeper options (although SES 3.4 look stunning). It is rather windy where I live and I often find myself struggling on the road with my Campy Bora WTA with 45 mil profile. But this will be my first gravel bike, so any advice you can offer is welcome! Thanks and keep it up!

Hello there, sorry for the delay in responding. If cross winds are a concern, I would definitely lean towards the shallower rim profile of the G23. 'Tis an excellent wheelset, I reviewed it a long time ago, and still use a set on a personal bike. Good luck!

sounds like an aero CX wheels if they are aero upto 33mm

#widerisbetter Obviously ENVE is advancing to the fact that wider rims, internal width (the only width that is relevant). Do they plan to upgrade the G23 or offer the G27 in a 700c. I’m 100% tubeless on my mountain and gravel bikes and can’t imagine purchasing a wheel set that has less than i25 on my gravel wheels or less than i30 on my Mtn wheels.

Hey there, I am with you 100% on tubeless, it's the only way to ride for me no matter the type of cycling. I would expect a G23 upgrade is in the works, as you know, the G23 was launched several years ago.

ENVE even lists the spoke lengths on the accessory bag because they know how many times you’ll need to order new ones. Lol Oh, and are we really STILL doing this internal nipple thing ENVE?! Like, really??!! Ridiculous

Great review as always but what I wanna know is why did you need to bring your quality calipers to your girlfriends house? What exactly were you measuring? Need to be careful with those calipers and their sharp tips around tender fleshly body parts.

GF has better calipers than me, at least with fresher batteries. Hers are medical grade, mine, likely not medical grade. I was measuring the rim dimensions, I like to do that to compare vs manufacturer specs.

Hopefully Enve improved their 3.4's. I had a set on my road bike (much more narrow internal/external width) about 5 years ago, by far worst (and most expensive) wheels I've ever used. They were abysmal in the wind (even for such a shallow 38mm depth), and the lateral stiffness was like a wet noodle. Had to open up the rim brakes as wide as they'd go to hopefully not rub, which wasn't that great for braking performance down mountains. The rim brake tracks were nice though and made a cool sound when braking. That was about the only positive. So glad I sold those wheels.

Did you have a chance to measure spoke tension on them? I wonder if the issue was the rim or the build. It seems strange for a carbon rim to be noodley without delaminating and failing.

@@ericpmoss Spoke tension was fine. I ended up having Enve rebuild them with DT Competition (non-aero, heavy duty) spokes at their suggestion, which stiffened up the wheels a bit. They still sucked in the wind though, and were basically unrideable up in the mountains (or anywhere exposed really) on breezy days.
