We discuss how the Enve 3.4 wheels transformed my cycling journey for the better. Overall, we go over what I have liked, and what I haven't.

I have this wheel set mounted with tubeless and am very happy with their performance. Here’s my hack for checking sealant level; pull the valve core and with stem rotated to lowest position, put a small plastic tie wrap through the valve stem and use it as a dipstick. Works every time and I don’t have more sealant in the tire than it needs.

Had these for 3 years. Also ride Zipp 303. I am a heavier powerful rider and hammered these. I left these on for training instead of my aluminium DT’s and they stood up. Much to my surprise. I warped the back wheel and if I am honest I think keeping them in my car in intense heat may been a factor as I ride most nights after work. Enve replaced front and back rims much to my surprise which is also why I bought a second set. The Zipp wheels I have snapped 8 spokes on same route and keep them for very flat track rides.

Nice review. You might want to look at the Campag Bora WTO 45. Campag and Shimano both still use Cup & Cone bearings versus sealed cartridge. Easy to do self service and the quality is there so you don't have to worry about issue riding in wet or muddy conditions.

I inherited some ses 5.6 on a used bike i bought. Went through the same setup woes wrt their rim tape, then rebuilt rear after a nds spoke broke. Agree internal nipples are a pain, especially with tubeless. Makes me cringe to think ill need to do that again. Plus needing a compressor to seat tires on rim… but the ride of tubeless is so good! About your love for cartridge bearings… i find cartridges are more expensive to maintain than a quality cup/cone. My shimano wheels are good for > decade where cartridge bearings rust out in 2 years. Maybe because i ride in the wet pnw. I feel that key for hub performance and longevity is being able to purge and regrease. Cup/cone and chris king are designed for this, cartridge bearings emphatically are not and their seals arent designed for water exposure. otherwise its $40-$120 every 2-3 years + blind bearing puller. I think its a terrible tradeoff.

Good advice on the bearings. I love the Enve wheels, but the internal nipples are their Achilles heal. They would be the perfect wheel if they had normal external nipples. Thanks for watching.

If you were able to get them for $1100, would you think they were worth it then? Did you get the zipp 303s? How’s they compare??

I'm tossing up between these and the 4.5s. Tell me these are fast.

I would get the 4.5s over these, as I think the aero benefits of those would be better for most of us. The turnoff for enve wheels is internal nipples, especially the hookless version, which forces you into tubeless. With that, you'd have to pull off the tubeless rim tape to straighten out the wheels since the spoke tension can't be adjusted from outside the rim, like others can.

you should use a tire pressure calculator 60 psi lol wtf
