The thing is Jesse Ventura basically became a military consultant during the filming of Predator, seeing Jesse was a Vietnam veteran and was one of the original frogmen in the Navy Seals, so he was able to pass on a lot of knowledge to make things like the maneuvers in the jungle and patrol formations of the team look more realistic. Not to mention Ventura basically ad libbed all of his lines through the movie seeing he was a charismatic sh!t talker from his pro wrestling days. Also a few of the other cast members were also military servicemen.

Another inside movie knowledge brought to you by me: The helicopter pilot at the end of the movie is the one and only Kevin Peter Hall, the actor who plays the Predator. John McTiernan gave him the brief on-screen role, because his "work as Predator was so exhausting." At 7’2” he had to endure wearing the costume weighing around 200lbs and had to wear a custom made "cool suit" which circulated cold water to keep him cool while wearing the Predator suit in the Jungle. Even with the cool suit he could only wear the Predator suit for about 2 hours before overheating and having to be quickly but carefully extricated from the suit. While working on Harry and the Hendersons, Hall announced that he had contracted HIV from a contaminated blood transfusion, given to him following injuries sustained in a car accident. He died from AIDS-related pneumonia on April 10, 1991 at the age of 35. As always, you’ve made a movie that I’ve watched, more times than I care to admit, so much more enjoyable with your commentary over it. Never thought about getting killed by the nervous fart but your damn right about that now that I think of it. Love it man!!

The most amazing thing about this movie is the contrast between the first and second half. The first half is straight 70s/80s-action-movie perfection to build up how insane and well-trained these dudes are. Then, the minute the second half kicks up, you understand *REAL* quick how irrelevant it all is compared to the true baddie of the film: the Predator. The directing style and choice is a thing of beauty and I’m always so impressed by how dedicated they were to making this movie exactly what it was meant to be.

It’s kinda hard to see, but when the Predator shoots at Arnold, he hits his gun & blows it apart. That’s why Arnold isn’t killed from the blast. "You're hit, man. You're bleedin'." "I ain't got time to bleed." "Oh... okay." Fun Fact: Jesse Ventura was delighted to find out from the wardrobe department that his arms were one inch bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger's. He suggested to Schwarzenegger that they measure arms, with the winner getting a bottle of champagne. Ventura lost, because Schwarzenegger had told the wardrobe department to tell Ventura that his arms were bigger. You're going to have to get up much earlier in the day to get one over a professional practical joker. Don't Drink It Fact: The Predator's blood - a goopy substance with the color of Mountain Dew - was made on-set using a mixture of the liquid from inside glow sticks and KY Jelly. Practical Effect Fact: The invisibility cloaking effect was achieved with a bright red suit (because it was the farthest opposite of the green of the jungle and the blue of the sky) the size of the Predator. The red was removed with chroma key techniques, leaving an empty area. The take was then repeated without the actors using a 30% wider lens on the camera. When the two takes were combined optically, the jungle from the second take filled in the empty area. Because the second take was filmed with a wider lens, a vague outline of the alien could be seen with the background scenery bending around its shape.

I first saw this movie in the cinema, and there must have been some kind of body building convention going on at the time, because the entire theatre filled up with huge body builders with giant muscles. I was the only skinny weakingly in that theatre with my little bag of popcorn, sitting in the centre being surrounded by these super-tough looking blokes with barrel chests and giant arms, all of them all hyped for this movie. It was all good--they all cheered for Arnold Schwarzenegger and his team. I felt like one of them. :)

Great reaction, mate. With respect to Arnold's arm injury, the reason the Predator's cannon didn't sever his arm but did take off Carl Weathers' (sorry. Chubbs') is that the shot hit his rifle, not his arm and shoulder directly. Chubbs wasn't so lucky. RIP Chubbs.

A+ reaction! My favorite bit of trivia about this movie is something that leads to the end being so damn good: in the original script, Arnold was supposed to beat the Predator in the hand-to-hand fight, but Arnold himself told the director that there's no way any human could win in a situation like that and requested a re-write. That's why Dutch ends up relying on his smarts and adaptability to win instead of just being able to brute force things.

The fact that the Predator is cheating with his "space technology" is spot-on... I've always seen the Predator as a rough allegory for human hunters, who like to pretend they're "sporting" even though they use high-tech shit no prey animal could *ever* understand - the Predator is the same way: even with all its bravado, it is basically a punk out on a weekend safari

FYI At the start of filming the actor who portrayed the PREDATOR was the at the time unknown JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME. JCVD and the director came to terms that their vision of what the predator should be, fast and agile, wasnt working because the suit was far to stiff to move around in as they wanted. What also contributed to the change was JCVD kept passing out from the suit and the hot climate where they were filming as well as the director felt with the majority of the main cast being at least 6'1 and JCVD being 5'10 the Predator wasnt as intimidating as they wanted it to be. JCVD was then replaced by 7'2 actor Kevin Peter Hall. Kevin Peter Hall 05/09/1955 ~ 04/10/1991

Not to protect him, but to protect other people FROM him. I've never heard of shit like that. Or Arnold had some people tell Jessie Ventura that his arms are bigger then bet the man a bottle of champagne on who's arms are bigger. They measured, he tricked him and Arnold won. that story is from the man himself and I'm not about to argue with him.....and it's funny. Arnold plays dirty, and I have no problem with that. " How big is the Predator? " The actor who played the Predator was Kevin Peter Hall, who, in real life, was seven foot four inches, and when in costume, he was eight feet tall. Sadly, Hall received tainted blood following an injury during filming of Predator 2, and died shortly thereafter.

You wouldn't believe how hard this movie was to rent back when it came out. Small town, one video store, one VHS copy of Predator. Nearest video store 100 mile drive. People were literally on a list to get it. But it was SO worth it. I got lucky cause the store owner treated me like one of her kids so I was very close to first in line so nothing was spoiled at all. We had it, Coke and Pepsi and pizza and friends and family and it rocked. 🐾🐾🍻

Hawkins, the first guy killed by the Predator, was played by Shane Black, better known for his career as a writer and director, he was the writer for (among other things) Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, The Last Boy Scout, and was the writer/director for Iron Man 3. Aside from playing Hawkins, Shane served as a punch-up writer backing up Jim & John Thomas, the main writers for Predator.

I know you saw Terminator 1&2 and Kindergarten Cop. Total Recall, The Running Man and Commando are a few more Arnold movies worth watching. The thing that rocks about this movie is that it goes to pains to show that these are hard dudes who've been through hard shit, but even they can't handle what's going on because its a step or two above what even they are used to, but its all presented in a realistic way that the audience can understand. This is what the sequels mostly fail at.

They did this one on Myth-Busters with an infrared camera. In reality, your skin begins warming up the mud the second you put it on. If you put a whole bunch of cold mud all over yourself really quick, it'll kind of mute the heat signature a little bit, but it'll be back to normal in under a minute, and still quite visible long before then.

Predator: The Musical. Some dudes made that about eleven years ago on their KZfaq channel. Pretty funny video, and they do really good imitations of characters from the movie. Just thought you might want to see it, since you've seen the movie. The second Predator film with Danny Glover is really good too, I hope you get to watch that for the channel. The Predator in that film is even more aggressive and violent, so Danny Glover has to deal with all sorts of craziness.
