You can think that the title of this video is a little bit pretentious, and maybe you are right but, as far as I know, it's acurate.
Before I made the decision of getting head on into the massive rabbit hole that is designing and making this abomination, I investigated a lot to see if something similar can be bought somewhere and I couldn't find anything that has all the features I want in this device: being compact and portable, nice looking, bedroom friendly and good sounding.
The closest things I found are some really DIY projects that fall into two main categories: A) Some sort of spinning bucket or cup duct taped into a boombox or B) a Leslie replica made using the same materials and design of the original, and roughly of the same size.
Don't get me wrong, some of these projects are really amazing and are full of skill and talent but I wanted to make something really different, something that breaks with all the preconcepts of a rotary speaker in terms of size, materials and design and doesn't try to be just a scaled down Leslie replica with the ultimate goal of making this amazing effect available for us mere mortals, who doesn't have a ton of money or space for an original Leslie unit.
In this very first video I'll introduce the design and make the core parts of this MKI prototype. Hope you like it!
