Busan Fish Market, the largest consignment market in Korea, holds an auction for boxes containing seafood. Before the auction, workers in the night women's class will be in charge of sorting the fish according to their fish type and size and putting them in boxes. They will hand-select some 70,000 boxes of seafood from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the day after the auction begins.
There are limitations in speed and accuracy because it is a human job, but we do not easily tolerate mistakes and errors because it is a human job. Night women's class workers do their best to make up for the limitations with long-standing skills and know-how. Their work speed determines the volume and freshness of the goods traded that day, and the product grade varies according to the accuracy. The "money" from the fish market is at the fingertips of those who classify a mackerel in less than a second. I went into the night women's class's work site.
