Great tutorial. I have the Piranha 4 Max which is a bit more basic but has been a game changer for me. I always used to think that the only useful part of having that on a kayak would be the depth but have really found it helps me locate fish at specific depths rather than hunting around all day which is awesome.

Probably could have done an entire episode of you cracking into that packaging lol! Almost made the jump to electronics on the skiff, but didn’t want more distractions since I don’t fish much open water. Very glad to see Kieran is getting set up with that Garmin unit, I bet he’s excited to use it this season. Great video Sean!

Excellent video Sean! Nice gift to get from your employer. You did a great job explaining everything. I like how you improvised hooking up the transducer to the Scotty arm. Well thought out. That's a nice upgrade for the kayak.

Nice unboxing and install. If you ever decide to upgrade you should look at side imaging.. it's a game changer, especially in a lake.

That is what I hear. My only concern would be how much bigger the unit would be on the yak. If I ever get a boat, I would have side imaging for sure.

Hey Sean, I have the Striker 4 on my Slayer Max and it was a game changer for me being able to find structure, depth breaks, etc. Looking forward to seeing it in action.

Just purchased the Garmin Striker 5 DI gps to sit along side my Hummingbird Helix 5 gps. My sole purpose in buying the Garmin was to add DI. Somehow in my research I failed to find this Hummingbird Piranhamax 4 DI. Bummer! Had I found out about it I would have got it instead of the Striker unit. Garmin is OK but I swear by Hummingbird. So much better in all respects. Very informative video. With I had that unit.

So funny thing I found a hummingbird piranha 15 at a garage sale for 10.00 brand new in the case lol. I think it’s like 8 years old doing check research. Have you tried that one or used before?? 😮

I think the 3 connections on back of the unit is so you can link another unit to it

This video is fantastic, thanks for the help. I just had a couple questions. First, would it be discouraged to use screws with a rubber gasket rather than a bolt? I have a sit-on-top style kayak so it's not really possible for me to access the underside to get a nut on a bolt. Secondly, what size battery did you use to power it? Thanks again!

You might be able to, the other option is self tapping screws. If you do, I would suggest adding some silicone in the hole and around the screw after just to minimize potential for leaks. I am using a standard 12 V lithium battery from Bass Pro.

Both wire crimps should be red. Blue is for larger wire.

Thanks for the comment. Don’t think it makes a difference if crimped properly. I have been using it for two years and no issues. I would rather be able to differentiate positive and negative

I just bought one of the same ones, when I was looking over the instructions it calls for a 1 amp fuse protection, I didn't see you install one. Did I miss something or do you just not use one?

I didn't install one. I have one on our Garmin Striker 4, but decided not to put it on this one. I know it is a risk, but I didn't have one on me and had everything else I needed, I could put one on later. I should have pointed that out. Sorry for the late reply
