Season 2, episode 24 is here and THE TRIAL NEVER ENDS! We have a God in our midst! Connor, Erica, and Mark have an awesome conversation with Star Trek's Iconic, Godlike Judge & Jury - "Q" - John de Lancie.
Dominic Keating is off this week - he is driving across this great country in a car. Something everyone should do - travel safe Dom! (We actually suspect Q snapped his fingers and BLAM! Dominic has to drive back to LA.)
John de Lancie talks about life, career, Star Trek, and Days of our Lives. Gene Roddenberry. Sailing. Breaking Bad. Performing for art, performing for commerce. Overcoming learning disability. Theater. And more.
We get some fan questions in, but for time, were unable to play a round of Star Trek Trivia, nor subject John to being "Stuck on a Deserted Island with Connor Trinneer.” Wah, wah. Both will be back.
The full, complete, ad-free version of this conversation is available to our amazing Patreon Members.

ANYONE EXPERIENCING AUDIO SYNC ISSUE- WE KNOW WHAT IT IS (A KZfaq TOOL) AND IT IS BEING FIXED!! IT WILL TAKE A FEW HOURS FROM 3:40PM PACIFIC TO RESET. FOGIVE THE TECHNICAL MISHAP. A FEW NOTES: 1. DOMINIC IS NOT WITH US FOR THIS EPISODE, HE IS TRAVELING ACROSS AMERICA IN A CAR; 2. FOR TIME REASONS, WE HAD TO SKIP TRIVIA AND CONNOR'S ISLAND (HAD LIMITED TIME IN THE SPACE WE SHOT); 3. HAD SOME TECHNICAL ISSUES DUE TO CHANGES MADE THIS WEEK... WE GOT 4K AND NO INTERLACING, BUT WE GOT AUTO FOCUS ISSUES AND A LESSON IN A NEW POST PRODUCTION WORKFLOW... THE CREDITS SUFFERED, BUT JOHN IS AMAZING, SO THAT DOESN'T MATTER. THANK YOU! LOVE YOU ALL!

John’s experience at Kent State was amazing and something I had never heard before. I am a child of that time, I was 10 in 1970 and Kent State was a foundational experience for young people at that time. His BRASS BALLS and self possession at going to his senator and the White House was incredible! He is even more impressive as a person than I ever knew and I have always been impressed with him.
@stanleyarmstrong2898
@stanleyarmstrong2898 10 ай бұрын
The DeLancie part of that story is valid. Here is another side: the Kent State mess was a symptom of massive upheavals. My question for the young demonstrators/occupiers would be: Why was it proper to take over the campus, burn the ROTC building and disrupt things to the point that the townies demanded an end of it befire the riot spilled off campus. The Mayor requested state help. I am a VietNam Veteran. Bluntly put, the occupation and destruction of state and federal property are still potentially felonies by state and federal law.

Your point is valid. We allow race and gender based upheveal but punish any other kind. Because of slavery and the patriarchy. Lets forget that Bill gates just made more money than most of the people in the world in the time it took mw Io type this sentence.

I've been a huge fan of NextGen and I remember a line from the book 'I,Q' which I purchased in my early twenties and red cover to cover ; "Never assume , because it makes an 'ass' of you and me". I felt really touched by the simplicity and veracity of that statement since it felt so in tune with my values , so much so that it made me rethink about all the moments 'Q' had something to say. After all , what is a god to say to mere mortals when eternity lies blindly ahead ?!

What a delight to see John de Lancie telling his own take about his story and background. As with previous guests, he too had his ups and downs in life. And in fact, being myself a half-retired thespian and stage director, this seems only to be human and ties us all up in a kind of Merry Men of the performing arts. One thing is for sure: the gentleman knows how tell stories, and he tells them quite well. Thank you so much for sharing this conversation with us. It was a blast!

There is a retired sports writer named Vic Ketchman who was also there on May 4. He wrote about it sometimes. Tensions had been building on campuses across the country for more than a year. A week after Kent State, police shot up Jackson State in Mississippi, killing 2 and wounding a dozen or so more. So while Kent State is the one most remembered, it wasn't the first or only time state violence was used on protesting students. I'd like to say it was a dark time in our country, but compared to how we shoot up schools nowadays, I _wish_ we lived in a time when a half-dozen deaths were all it took to galvanize a national reaction.

I was ecstatic when Q reappeared after the credits in the finale of Picard. I have no idea how an actor can play a mischievous god, but he pulls it off. He was in the 1st episode of TNG when i was 8 years old, and is the last image on the screen 35 years later in Picard. I dont know if actors like deLancie will ever understand how powerful that is. For us, the audience, to see a story lasting 30 years

A fantastic episode with one of the foremost StarTrek icons! Roddenberry was right. The character and John's portrayal of Q is so strong as to be overpowering. When Q appeared, he was in command. The issue is that Picard is supposed to be in command. You therefore have this dynamic of the Captain vs. an omnipotent being, which has to be used _sparingly_ or it will undermine the premise of the series. That both John De Lancie and Patrick Stewart have immense screen presence is necessary. While some of the best episodes are those where Picard's authority is challenged, at the end of the day he has to climb back into his Captain's chair and lead the crew to the next strange new world. If Q had appeared every fourth episode, STTNG would no longer be about exploration, but Q pulling the strings and setting up everything. That's a different show. I do think that John could pull off a leading role in his own show, whether Star Trek or not. That would be interesting. It wouldn't have to be the character of Q, but if so, it would heavily involve the Collective and all those things that are only hinted at to date. There has to be some limits to his abilities or you don't have a show.

Ok I have to say I enjoyed the episode thoroughly as John is such an amazing actor. However what was in my opinion super cool was the ending credits and how nice and slow and readable they were. Imo too many people are missed and forgotten because the credits aren't looked at as important as the whole of the episode but all the names you miss are a huge part of why we have this great show. Everyone matters and this was huge for me. Call me easily satisfied but its a lost art imo and its just awesome to see it again. You guys rock and keep me going. Thx again for the time. 🖖🖤

Erica is so lovely and whether it sounds weird or not - I don't really care because from my perspective it's not - she has a beautiful and prominent nose and that has always from my eyes has been a feature, when it's prominent, that simply makes a women beautiful. Besides her looks, I get from her that she is a caring person, not overly "stuck" on her attractiveness, which also makes her even more attractive and a very caring attitude and warmth when she does her part of the podcast mainly that of fielding and presenting questions from fans. In this episode Conner and Mark continue to be very comfortable to watch, listen to and with questions that cause the guest(s) to tell some really great stories. I also like that the show does not contain endless sexual references and swearing. I never watched Star Trek for sexual scenes or any leaning in that direction - have always loved the awesome acting and writing. John DeLancie is of course a joy to watch as Q. For a time I was part of a group of people here in Las Vegas making a fan made Star Trek series - called "Quarks Space Station". No budget really - we just made it happen by our love of Star Trek. I was prop master, script writer and actor in the fan made series. I spent over $800 of my own money on needed props, loved the small amount of directing I got to do and played Cptn. Picard, Odo, Wellington ( a person trying to get hired on Quarks Station) and a tree-based life form, selling contraband to Quark in one scene. Though episodes of Quarks Space Station can still be seen on You Tube and certainly a lot of criticisms can be levied regarding much of the sets and acting ( again we had no budget), I am proud of the props I came up with, the writing and directing I got to do and the roles I played, as at least one cast member with some small amount of acting experience in my past. Thanks for having actors we all revere on your podcast. Live, Long & Prosper Brian Gardner

Just finished your episode. This was one of the most casual and fun convos I've seen on here although they all have been really good in that respect. I would totally love to see a couple hour dinner table version of this at a restaurant or something where the audio was right. You guys get along great and John is a blast to listen to. All of your stories were great though. Thank you very much Shuttlepodshow keep up the great work

I…am… so so inspired and overjoyed watching this episode! This shall be now one of top favorites that I will come back to! What a deeply intelligent, humble, sophisticated, uplifting human being! And now that we know what he had to overcome early on, I am just in awe! Oh and @14:00 😂❤❤😮 so wish I could have seen that Stravinsky “re”-production , sounds incredible! Thank you, Shuttlepod!!❤❤

A most entertaining and enlightening episode. I learned much about John de Lancie that I did not know. What a fascinating human being! I could've listened to him share stories for another two hours. I have my fingers crossed that Q gets to return in a Picard spinoff series. I would love to live in a world where our politicians (and others in power) were incapable of lying. Dammit Q, Make It So!

For some reason (maybe the way it was worded) I had John de Lancie's voice in my head as Q speaking this to me. Weird but cool.

No spoilers - just checking that when you watched Picard S3's final episode, you stayed through the closing credits. :)

I was completely blown away by John's talk, so insightful. I didn't get into theatre and onto the stage until I was in my mid 50's, through my son and daughter, that was at least 20 years ago. I was mostly in musical comedies with the occasional drama. Now I am having my comedic one act plays being performed. (I'm in Australia.)

Took a class from John D in the 80's before q. He was a legend then and now. Nothing but, great, life changing, succinct, amazing, acting advice.

First, let me just say that I LOVE John de Lancie's Q. That's a portrayal of a god that is: 1. "Will you grow out of your bullshit? No? Well, here's a highly metaphorical lesson with high stakes, learn from it." and 2: "I can do anything. Now, show me why I should do that exact thing that you want me to." Second: I really admire what this channel does, because you really talk to the actors and pull the curtains on us mere viewers or fans, and show what it really takes to get to that point to be an actor and subsequently become someone's favorite character. A little bit of history, a little bit of luck... and not just actors, directors as well. Keep it up, this content is enlightening as well as entertaining.
