Season 2, episode 22 is here. Dominic, Connor, Erica, and Mark have an awesome conversation with lifelong Trekker, David Blue- "Math Boy" Eli Wallace of Stargate Universe.
David is a Nerd God. He loves Star Trek. He was the star of Stargate Universe. He plays games. Loves his craft. Loves his rescue dog. Is basically our spirit animal.
Our beloved Erica LaRose is back. Wash is amazing, but hiding behind Mark. We get some fan questions in, play a round of Star Trek Trivia, and we subject David to being "Stuck on a Deserted Island with Connor Trinneer.” Get ready to have a load of laughs..

That was terrific! You definitely chose the right guy to facilitate an out of Star Trek family interview in David. He brings just enough geeky awe and knowledge of all things Trek to facilitate a crossover so to speak. I enjoyed his insights into the business of acting as well as the craft. Seems like a likeable guy. Well done folks

SGU was amazing. Recently re-watched it with my wife, (her first time) and found myself completely into it again, as if it was a first time watch. I place SGU among some of my fave sci-fi shows. It had the girt of BSG and went places that Star Trek Voyager seem afraid to go. All the shows were based on ships, lost, running away from danger, or trying to find a home, or new home. SGU was dark like BSG, yet at times, hopfully stunning like STV, but what SGU had was the courage to show the members of the crew beaten, weak, and truly human at times.

@@ShuttlepodShow BBS's were typically College computer systems that people could dial into for info and students found out they could connect to others to share games and stories, when communication companies found out it was a profitable idea, servers like the big warehouse system in New York, "Prodigy" a part of AT&T back in 1983 which later became the first part of what we now know as the Internet. Sci-fi channel went downhill since the rebranding as well. Can't say there's anything on that channel I watch anymore. SGU is one of my favorite series, and Eli was by far my favorite character. Glad to see and hear from David, to hear all his experiences and thoughts. I too hate that SGU didn't get a chance to really shine like it could have. The comics that followed didn't do it too much justice. Really would be nice if there was a way to wrap up the series with a couple of movies or even a short 6-8-10 episode series. Like see if the crew ever does make it home again or if they decide to chase after the question. I will say I still hate that Eli never told his mother about the descendants. That last episode is so sad when he's telling her they may be out of contact for a long time. Really hit hard because he knew there was a possibility that she might be gone by the time they could reconnect back to earth. I would have told her about them finding their descendants, that somewhere out there in the vast universe, there's a race of humans carrying on their family, that he had a family, had kids, wrote books that shaped a civilization. Like c'mon writers, IT WAS RIGHT THERE, MAKE THAT MOMMA PROUD.

This was such a good episode. SG-U suffered from the fact that they were doing this “new wave” season long story telling thing, way before it was a thing like it is now. Farther than SG-1 and Atlantis went. SG-1 went there with the Goa’uld and the ori, and Atlantis went there with every loose storyline they setup early. Michael included. Lol.

SG:U really hit its stride in S2, S1 (as with many first seasons) was a bit hit and miss. The relationship between Eli and Rush, very much like the relationship between Will Robinson and Dr Smith on Lost in Space. There were some absolutely delicious moments with Rush manipulating Eli, Eli starting to recognize it and pushing back, but then sometimes it was ambiguous if Rush was helping himself or everyone, which completely echoed the Will/Dr Smith relationship.
@mvprime8
@mvprime8 Жыл бұрын
Pretty much the only scenes I didn't like in S1 were a lot of the Earth scenes (characters using the communication stones). When rewatching, I just skip those scenes for the most part. But everything on Destiny and other planets was good stuff. In S2 they did the Earth scenes a lot less, and even when they did, they actually made those communication stone scenes much more interesting, so yeah they really figured out the kinks for S2. But S1 has some of my favorite stuff as well.

@@ShuttlepodShow I believe they could still make it work. A season 3 and on i mean. It ended on a "there will be a 10y gap" or something if i remember right? David Blue still can play the nerd hands down. The people not wanting to return could have "malfunctioning stasis pods" or something ;) Make it dark, soulcrushing and brutal but with a captivating story arc people will want to continue watching. With the other SG reboot bombing so hard i suppose nobody has the balls to do it though ... pity :/

I think David Blue was a fantastic choice for your first non-Trek guest and thanks to him for doing this. I think I came around to it a while ago, but what he said about fandom and kinda giving each other as well as actors and creators of shows some slack. Just to give them a little bit of grace. I will freely admit that I have my favorite Trek or bits and parts of a franchise while I may consider the others in that grouping 'not for me'. But, what I always, always, always try to keep in mind is that people like different things. Just b/c I like apple pie doesn't mean other people need to like apple pie, maybe they prefer cherry pie. And never to be denigrating of the effort and work the actors and creators put into a show. No one (maybe a few exceptions?) sets out to put out a crap show or a crap performance and no one is out there saying, "I'm going to make a show that ruins the childhood memories of some fan sitting on their couch at home". Thanks to David for reminding us of something maybe most of us are already aware, but can use a bit of a refresher or reminding from time to time; a little bit of sympathy and empathy for the other person. And as always, thanks to Erica, Mark, Connor and Dom for another great show.

😊 David's a good actor. Didn't recognize him at first (looking at the show's episode foto. I haven't followed or seen David since SGU days. He's (don't really want to bring attention to it but I mean it in a very positive way) lost so much excess weight and has built up himself. So impressively done.👏 His "geekdom" over science fiction in general and star trek and SGU in particular is admirable. His talents show as he talks and his accomplishments are not surprising. Great things are likely coming from David Blue. As always the Shuttlepod is amazing. I luv how much fun you guys show. Especially the friendship and fun that Connor and Dominic display. 👏👍

In 2005, I was about 7 or 8, not sure exactly when it was, but I found out Enterprise was gone and I was pretty sad about that. But I lived off the reruns for the next few years. It was always TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT all around 3-8 PM across that time period. But it was quickly getting old and I wasn’t into anything else. Then I ran across SG-1. It was an amazing show despite that I didn’t like modern-type shows as Stargate is. As Star Trek left my life, Stargate entered to fill the void. I loved all 3 shows very much, along with all three films. I was super heartbroken that SGU was cancelled, but a few years go by and Star Trek came back. To see the two represented here is just incredible. Thanks for bringing David on guys! You should get Hewlett on here too! I’m super hopeful that Stargate gets the same treatment of a return story as Trek recently has had. If rumours are to be believed, that day may very well be sooner than later!

As a long time sci-fi fan, - one thing I have noticed is how interest in the show leads to appreciation of the actors as people and as time passes & you see those actors on other shows you feel great that their careers are moving forward. When Connor became a wraith (Michael) on Atlantis after Enterprise had ended - I recall thinking - "Yes! He's got a job ... on a great show and now he's gonna have 2 massive fanbases!". And I think this view is becoming more widespread as the Internet lets the fanbase get to know the actors better as people. I ran across this channel for the 1st time today & was blown away with the lineup because I'm such a Trek & Stargate fan. I hope you all realize that real fans develop a great empathy for the actors thermselves & when we see you land a great part - we're genuinely happy for you. StarGate & StarTrek feel like family among long-time fans. And that's awesome!

Seeing David Blue's acting career blossom and flourish is a great feeling. I was continuity background on Stargate Universe, and you can see me in nearly every episode, being stuck on that ship. The Backgrounders would play a game, where we would joke about who would get cannibalized first when the food ran out. No names are to be revealed at who choose who. But yeah he was great to work with honestly a truly nice and fun guy to be around. The entire cast were a pleasure to work with, like Ming Na and Lou Diamond Phillips was always great because he would always make everyone laugh. Funny thing about the Stargate Atlantis connection, is that our first few days as Background on Stargate Universe, they hadn't had the BG holding areas setup, so we were held, in the main Stargate Atlantis set, the gate was covered with a cloth but it was still there, but the set was slated to be dismantled and later on it was. I do recall telling him I recognized him from Moonlight, and he did tell me the story about him learning about becoming a series regular...the day before they were canceled.

I’m a little late but wanted to chime in for the record about how great SGU was!! Amazing writing and way to good to let the series end prematurely. I loved all the Stargate shows, SGU in my opinion learned from its predecessors and was telling a fantastically interesting story. It’s my belief that a large chunk of the new sci fi shows at that time were being viewed online. At that time TV shows were only really starting to become readily accessible on the internet and even the legal views were not recognized by the rating system. Really just a theory, but I think this phenomenon also led to the cancellation of Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles which was a great show cancelled around the same time as SGU.

I though this turned out to be one of the best conversations you've had on the show - great flow the entire time!

David Blue, you're great. You've been so much shortchanged on SGU ending prematurely, you played the best character on that show.

I remember reading the Stargate Universe comic after Season 2 was cancelled, thinking "Is this what season 3 was going to start off as?" I wonder sometimes.

This was a fantastic episode, glad to see you all reaching into the Stargate cast! I loved seeing Connor on Atlantis and his episodes had a lot of moral heft. Looking forward to seeing more folks join from that series. Stargate is my favorite sci-fi show after Star Trek.
