Read your other comment how it cost the custom 5.5K in parts & labor. As an owner of an 07 Jeep Liberty, I think I would just have to part ways with it if it came to that. The Jeep KJ in this video looks well maintained tho, so I guess it was worth it to the owner.

I just completed one on a 2002 this past weekend, but I tried to do it with removing as much as possible. the only thing I had to do different when putting gin the new engine was to remove the radiator. I was able to get it out with out taking it out. But had to take it out to get I back in

Hey how did you remove the neg battery cable that runs from the neg batter post to the engine block by the oil filter? I cant seem to get it from up top ??? Please help

Thanks for the information!! I'm trying to figure it out if I can fit a 3.7 from a liberty into a 2010 grand Cherokee they both 3.7 I just dont know what are the difference

Hi, I have a jeep liberty but not sure if its 2004 or 2005. Just blew cylinder head but noticed that the oem numbers are different for 04 and 05 models when I tried to order a new head. How can I tell if my engine/ head is 04 or 05?

How difficult would you rate this job? Could a novice do it? I've done things like replacing the trans valve body, rear axle replacement and lift kit install. The only thing that I've done of the engine is replace the water pump and valve rockers + lifters. Replaced the radiator too.

It could be a lil challenging for you but as long as you are organized and keep a repair near you it can be done.

I got an 06 Liberty sport at 200k on the dot. The rack and pinion are going out and motor mounts as well. Any recommendations on what services to get done? I’m considering spark plugs and ball joints soon too. All the fluids are covered and up to date. Thanks!

Spark plugs are a good tune up part if they haven't been changed in a while. Balljoints are wearable parts that are part of your steering system. So if your replacing the rack and pinion then it is best to just take care of everything at once. Rack, inner and outer tie rods, balljoints. That will tighten up and refresh the steering system. Motor mounts are a must if they are going out. If an engine isn't secured by the mounts it can cause all sorts of problems down the road. Engine will shake, move, and cause exhaust manifolds to leak or in some cases Crack. Definitely take care of the problems so your Liberty will be happy and take care of you.

I have a question can you please tell me how you took off the negative battery ground that goes to the engine block? Its right by the oil filter but i cant seem to put a socket or wrench on the nut to take it off. How did you do it?

Cant remember off the top of my head. I might have gone through the wheel well area. I have to do a little review and get back to you. I'm off to work at the moment.

Would this be possible without a lift? Could It be done with jack stands?

Yes of course. Will be a little more labor because you will be on your back but very doable.

Did you have to replace or change anything else during the engine replacement? Motor mounts? Hoses? Wires? Torque converter?

No I didn't I don't believe. Inspect everything though, it's a good time to replace those things if any of them are in question.

It would be easier to pull it without. The reason I pulled it with it on is because the engine was locked up.

As long as the used engine is in good shape it should be fine. They should be replacing things like water pump, seals, and gaskets.

What brackets are you talking about when you're standing underneath? It's too dark to tell what's going. If you can list the exact name for the bracket that'd be pretty amazing!! It's right before you started talking about the starter.

For the level of repair I did with parts transfer and cleaning. 1800 labor. If it was just a used engine putting in without the extent I did somewhere around 1000. Depending on your geographic area 700 might be a common rate.

This is a used engine were installing but we will have to clean it up, probably install new water pump, valve cover gaskets, thermostat, swap alternator over and etc.. this is in the Lexington Kentucky area. I'm thinking we should be around 1000 or 1200. My buddy bid the job but I thought it was a little light. I've never done a liberty but I know its alot of work regardless.

Yes 1000-1200 would be more realistic.

@@importmodify thanks bro..to be honest I don't think any motor swap should be less then a 1000 bucks. Started taking motor apart today, looks like we have to change the timing cover and wiring harness also, what a bitch. Our used motor is from a 2009 commander( I think thats what you call it)going into a 2012 liberty.

4-5 days my customer paid around 5.5k parts and labor.

I'm watching this because I need to replace a freeze plug, the last mechanic didn't use any permatex and coolant is jetting out along the edges of the plug driver side right behind the engine mount :(

That sucks man. Yeah permatex makes great products. Be sure to take a a red scotch Brite pad and clean the hole surface really good.

Powertech engine (3.7L and 4.7) are NOT so robust like preview generation Magnum engine. My engine (yes, It is a Jeep Liberty 2006) has a little noise from Valve lifter. This is not durable engine. I'm seriously considering change engine for a japanese motor (or, last case, sell vehicle and buy a Toyota).
