One critical piece of equipment for night hunting is a a thermal handheld scanner. Because of this many coyote hunters want to buy both a thermal monocular and thermal rifle scope at the same time but fit it into a certain budget. Today Hans and Jason offer suggestions on thermal handhelds and thermal rifle scopes that will compliment each other well and fit into a $5,000 total budget for both optics combined. We hope this gives coyote hunters a good starting place for optics to consider when looking for a monocular and scope combo.

*** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

This episode is ironic because in late August, I spoke with Hans and then Jason the next day. I told them what I wanted , my hunting conditions, range, and a small to moderate budget to work with. In a 20 minute conversation with Jason, I became confident with his recommendations and was able to get a Taipan 19-384 monocular and a Neith NV scope. Because I explained I wanted to shoot out to 150+ yards, Jason suggested adding a sniper hog light 50LRX to the package. With the AGM sale I was able to get everything I need within my projected budget. Then to round it out, I spoke with Ashley 2 weeks later and he helped me set up the Neith scope. What a great team!!! Icing on the cake is I am also able to use the Taipan monocular for armadillo hunting in my wife’s flower beds at home. Win-Win!

My theory is use some thing to spot out toas far as possible for 1200 dollars identify at 800 and do the rest of the job with a rangefinder scope for minimal movement and complete the shot.

From my experience in open country for coyotes you do need a lrf on either the scope or the monochular it is not the end of the world without one but it really helps. I do enjoy your show never miss it

Thanks for watching! We agree, LRF’s are extremely helpful with big open fields and small animals like coyotes.

I’m curious if you guys have seen or used the RIX leap L3 or L6 scopes. And what you thought about them, or think about them in general?

Feel free to give us a call and we can discuss the Rix optics in more detail. At this time we are not recommending them and there is some huge confusion and misinformation out there about their capabilities and features. They do not offer real “optical zoom” as they are being advertised. We explain the way this works (or doesn’t) but a clue is that the “optical zoom” cannot be seen on video, only the digital zoom can be seen, which every thermal scope offers. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to discuss them. 877-350-1818

Very surprised you didn't put the Talion XG35 in there with the sale right now. Granted that price may not be relevant in a month but damn.. 3500 before any kickbacks for a 640...
@TheLateNightVisionShow

EDIT!! I just realized something….in my original reply here, I said the Talion XG35 was 2.5x but it’s not, it’s only 2x! That’s even a greater reason it was left out. Please Ignore my comments about it being 2.5x lol Thanks for watching. The Talion is a 2.5x base mag optic so it didn’t make the list. Only 3x base mag scopes made the list. We did discuss it but since we don’t believe 2.5x suits most coyote hunters they would be immediate zooming up and giving up the image quality they paid for. It was definitely a consideration but we decided ti stick to our 3x base mag requirement. But you’re right, it seems like it should be in the list at first glance.
