Its kind of useless though, it will only tell you what was your cortisol at that precise moment. Youd better monitor it over a few days and at different moments of the day to see how its fluctuating

How do you seem to know what I'm trying to learn. I'm amazed and grateful once again. Nobody can tell me how I acquired a dvt, and you start explaining how the arteries become damaged and clotting cascade. The doctors said it was because I was sitting.Thats all they said. I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now, but they both said it as if it were some canned response to" how did this happen". You continue to answer the questions I haven't got around to asking yet. Bless you.👏

I also find the canned responses too little and suspect the thinking is, "You're too ignorant, and I don't have time." Dr. Cywes' presentation points me in the direction of finding more information should I feel the need.

I like this guy. His angle on metabolic illness is slightly different than others, but it seems he's well experienced and studied. I will trust a doctor who has a clinical practice more every time, but they don't all agree with each other. His science makes sense to me, as well as his anecdotal personal and professional experiential knowledge.

After I heard yr statement that Cortisol is only a response to stress- and not The cause ... yup- made me think. I've believed otherwise- I disputed it in my mind. Now I understand. Thanks Doc.

I flunked the suppression test because of the tumor on my adrenal gland. They incidentally found my muscle invasive bladder cancer at the same time. lol. Perhaps my metabolic problem came to fruition due to my high hormonal baseline. Adrenal tumor and cancer free after 2.5 years from diagnosis.

@@robertcywes2966 I understand one of the bladder’s functions is to remove toxins. That cancer developed into the muscle wall was indicative of an immunodeficiency set up because of the anti inflammatory nature of cortisol? I believe cancer is a metabolic problem.

Managing my stress response - a continual, ongoing process for me, no matter what woe I may be doing (keto 2.5 years, carnivore past 90 days as of yesterday). Daily walks, yoga, and watching Dr Cywes videos will help, I am sure! Thank you, Dr!

Fascinating discussion. I look forward to hearing more from Dr. Diamond. My problem is low cortisol…I’m exhausted all the time. Been on steroids for asthma and allergies for years and am concerned that’s part of the problem. Was referred to endocrinology 6 months ago…every day I get closer to my appointment date. 🤞🏻

Low carb has really helped me control my allergies and asthma. They really flare up when I eat foods that provoke high blood glucose and high insulin. Whey protein is a trigger for me as well

Me too! In fact, I recently found that, in addition to being strict low carb (Keto), doing longer intervals of clean fasting (18-20 hours of water only) my allergy symptoms, immediately and for many days after, despite high pollen levels. It has also made me waaaay less reactive to allergenic foods such as dairy. 🙂 @@ljs94

This video may have finally given me the reason for my 600 cholesterol and in my recent blood work, an increased triglyceride level. I’m considered a LMH and participated in Dave Feldman’s study. My cholesterol has continued to increase over past 3 years while following a fairly strict animal-based diet. I was afraid I’d have to give it up. For now, I’ll add fruit and see if that’s the answer. Thank you!! 21:18

After a few weeks of the carnivorous diet, my cholesterol reached 486 and I also had an increase in triglycerides. Since I wasn't eating any grams of carbs, it seemed strange that I had high TG, but I think it was all due to cortisol.

I think I may also have a cortisol issue after watching this video and reading your comment. My cholesterol recently hit 590, TGs up to 88. I saw in another video from Dr Cywes that he eats avocados and olives. Not sure that would help me, too, but have added those into my carnivore woe in the last few days. Not sure about addding back in fruit, like berries. Afraid it would trigger my sweet cravings.

My stress levels go horribly when I’m driving long trips especially in heavy traffic. Yesterday my BG went for 90’s to 250 while driving on I-5 for 5 hr. Had to give insulin boluses twice during the trip. I’ve never figured out how to reduce that stress response. I do stop bout q 2 hr to walk around a try to relax. Any suggestions? I usually fast before and during my travels so not to bring up my BGs. I didn’t usually have issues working ICU and that stress but did when I did home nursing and drove in SF Bay Area when driving 50 - 100 miles a day.

Yes, horrible stress when driving in a new place! Wasn't like this until I nearly died taking care of my mom with dementia for 4 years with alot of trauma.

You should watch Dr. Sean Omara’s videos. After 6,000 MRI’s regarding visceral fat he found that the people who had the least visceral fat were carnivores who sprinted. Sprinting reduces visceral fat because it simulates the flight response. Your liver dumps all your glycogen into your blood stream in seconds and it empties your liver of its sugar reserves like fasting does. But it does it in seconds and not in 12 plus hours. So in no time your body has to start burning fat and then it burns visceral fat first.

I would really like to have the role of glucagon in ketogenesis explained as well as you explain cortisol. BTW, I recently underwent a low dose dexamethasone suppression test. My cortisol result was quite low. ACTH was flagged as abnormally low. My doctor had never seen such a low ACTH level after suppression test. I cannot find any information as to what is an abnormally low ACTH in response to dexamethasone. Anyone have a clue?

Both cortisol and glucagon increase BG especially in the morning dawn effect. In your last video you seemed to claim that cortisol and glucagon reduce blood glucose? That is incorrect if thats what was meant. It is the exact opposite. If you are suffering from a "hyper dawn effect" (yes its about time we named this condition properly) then you are IR or chronically IR or even "hyper" IR. This means that the cells in the liver itself are IR because they are locked and not absorbing glucose, as too are the fat and muscle cells. You have fatty liver and fatty pancreas without a doubt if you are T2D. In this case you are stuck with way too much morning blood glucose that can last much of the day. Your liver does not know you already have ample blood glucose so when your alpha cells from the pancreas secrete the glucagon hormone it signals your liver to blindly pump out more glucose via gluconeogenesis even though its the last thing you need. Because the cells in the liver have become IR the liver cannot see the excess blood glucose. In the end there is only one solution for T2D. Get rid of fatty liver and fatty pancreas and learn all about your "Personal Fat Threshold"!

@@robertcywes2966 Pretty sure cortisol plays a role in the release of BG. Cortisol is released after adrenaline (adrenaline --> cortisol --> glucose) so I do not understand why you think cortisol does not lead to increased BG?

I had Cushing's disease (pituitary). I wonder why it excreted cortisol when the pituitary excretes TSH, LSH, Prolactin, GH, LH, FSH, ACTH.

So this is my issue with Keto. I get disglycemic when I try keto and I feel like my cortisol goes up. :( I can't function when I try to reduce my carbs under 75 or 50. I am also non the middle of menopause so not sure if that plays a part.

I had Cushions disease back in the mid nineties. It took 7+ years for any one to finally figure it out. They found a tumor in my pituitary gland.

A Question: if adrenaline is pro-inflamirory and ramps up the immune system why is it given in the form of an epi-pen to combat Anaphylaxis? One would think this would make things worse if it does that?

Interesting. My doctor wouldn’t do a cortisol test on me. Said it was too expensive. I’ll look into a hair test. Did you have any other symptoms?

The impending threat the body is preparing for is evolutionarily an attack from a wild animal so the body expects to have to address a wound so it gets ready to stop bleeding with clotting- this is the biggest threat of stress as this causes plaque build up and then finally causes the blockage.

Utter garbage. Watch Dr Sean Omara’s videos. He did a study for the National Science Foundation about visceral fat. Reviewed 6,000 MRIs. Worst visceral fat was a vegan from India. Least visceral fat was an Olympic sprinter. His protocol is carnivore and sprinting.
