Always fascinating to watch your brewing process, thanks for having us along. Good luck with lovely Layla, and fingers crossed for Justin whose background sounds tragic. He'll find a loving environment, I'm certain. All the best!

Interesting way of filling the mash to go on temperature, makes sense as you can reach the target volume with the sparge anyway and the mash thickness won't vary significantly

Yep, I’d rather mash at the right temp than hit some arbitrary liquor litres target. I can adjust that after the enzymes do their thing. Cheers!

After cooking roast lamb on Easter Sunday and drinking my own beer, watching you brew is always oddly relaxing in a sad and nerdy way! The new dog is lovely and well done on giving her a loving home and acclimatising her with patience. How people can mistreat animals in such ways is beyond me. Excellent video as always Andy.

Great vid as usual Andy I’ve gotta get some of your beer ordered when I get paid next. I tried the Murgy in the Brewshed (Retford) and it was beautiful. Will you be bottling the Moston and Get Locky? Congratulations on adopting your gorgeous little pup, Layla is beautiful. Cheers Andy 👍🍺

Good vid, thanks for doing a full brew day, always love watching and learning from these. Meant to ask before, how long were you home brewing before 'going pro'?

All grain, not long really, 2 or 3 years but more or less every weekend. Before that, beer from malt extract, and wine - on and off for years.

Great brew day vid firstly if you fancy elaborating how you open those 25kg bags of grain so easily please do, I know I don’t use so many but I’ve opened a few and the combination of this flap holding this stitching and pulling whatever is left usually results in the equivalent of a emergency stop in a car for my fingers ,wrists ,elbows ,shoulders and coming to a stop in my spine. I love ace of base can you use any song if you pop it in the description at the end and not get stung by KZfaq? I’ve got so many songs I want to use 👍. And finally I absolutely applaud you adopting and giving a rescue dog another chance and what a life she is going to have being part of your family. As always great vid sending love I appreciate you cheers 👍🍻

Hi Rick. Will show the bag tapes next time! Music no, you have to licence it. I use Lickd. Loads of ‘free’ stuff and £6.00 for chart. Laila says woof. :)

Didn't realise you had a couple of different waters. This is a proper English Bitter ain't it, going to be top drawer. I've heard about the Penny Whisle fella from a middlewich mechanic called Steve who comes over for the TT. Ya doing well keeping ya prices at bay. Bushys Brewery over here keep theirs low as poss and rely on turnover. Still get a Bushys Bitter for 2.80 so not too bad, excellent vid Andy, I've learnt alot today👍🍺

Thanks for watching Dave. Trampas is a bit of a local legend. Used to walk around the streets near the brewery playing the whistle with his dog following behind, like the Pied Piper. He often calls in for a chat now. Trying my best to keep the prices reasonable and managed it so far! Cheers

If you are bottom filling the boil kettle how do you know that your mash runnings are at less than 1.010? Do you have some kind of inline gravity measurement device?
@FourPriestsBrewery
@FourPriestsBrewery 8 ай бұрын
Its not bottom filling the kettle, the runnings come in from the top so I can sample there. Cheers

Quick question/mash in? You are the first brewer I have seen mash in dry and then add the strike water afterward...why is this your process? Why don't you put enough strike water in the mash-tun and then dump in the Grain? It is my opinion; it will reduce the "Dough-Balls" and will be much easier to stir. I have been brewing for about 20 years and this is the first time I have seen anyone mash-in this way.

Good points. A couple of reasons. Imagine your first brewday on new kit. All of the grain for the recipe needs to go in. All of it. If I cant get it in then I’m in trouble. Not all of the liquor has to go in. I can sparge more to make up the difference if the MT is full before I get all the liquor in. I cant add more grain if the MT is overflowing. So that was brew 1. Then irs all aboit repeatability. Dont change a thing and you get the same outcome. Im braver now. I shall try it the orher way. Dough balls not a problem. Also watch HarryBrew’s videos. Water in then grain. Also, I can prep the brew friday night and get the grain in ready for Saturday. Saves me time.

Have you ever tried using the formulation of quarts/liters of water to pounds of grain for volume of strike water? For example, US, 1.25 quarts of water (1.32 liters of water), and say, 100 pounds of grain= 31.25 gallons of water (1.25x100=125 quarts/4=31.25 gallons) conversion 1.32 liters x 100=132 liters in total it would be 118.29 liters. of strike water. May make it easier to mash in.

@@markjenkins4383 all the time, in L/kg at least. I try to work a 3:1 ratio above the false bottom and thats how I get the liquor volume. for the ‘MT. But ‘will it fit?’ was the question pre brew day 1. And it did. So thats how it went.

Hi Andy, It would be great if you could do an episode on water/additions etc. I use Beersmith but still struggle with the water part of it. What's your target water profile?
