January 2017: It's not always dolphins and sunsets....
Life in a boat yard can be tough! Especially when nothing seems to go right, and you uncover more problems than you bargained for.
We haul out in Portugal to make some major repairs and also address some general maintenance jobs, whilst living in chaos 12 feet up a ladder.

Very clever way to check the runout of the prop shaft! I am seriously impressed !

Ingenious dial indicator, major props! Check out Kieth Fenner's blog, he straightens shafts all the time.

Don't own a sailing yacht but have always been intrigued with sailing and I do so appreciate these very real, behind the glory scenes. Brilliant engineering ( or is it physics ) applications to find the solutions to the problems. I've heard folks spending an inordinate amount of time on boats in just what is deemed necessary maintenance ( very understanding wives and/or partners ).

You guys are an awesome couple. I really admire you guys doing this & enjoying life at a young age. Id give anything to be able to do this with my son but we’d likely kill each other. You guys are a rare couple and are an example of how couples can do anything together. Best of luck on future adventures.

Ugh. Sorry to see that. I like the prop shaft setup. Great idea! Living aboard and doing major maintenance can be testing.

What an absolute bummer about the batteries guys. Really feel for you there, but well done on getting her back in the water.

Wow. What fun. We were at the Sopramar in Lagos, Portugal, just to the east of Faro, and although it was expensive it was also the most amazing chancellery I'd seen since we left Scotland. I stocked up on every imaginable electrical crimp fitting I could find since I've gone through so many in the last 4 months. Lagos was a cool place to stay, and we were there for almost 10 days. Too bad about your battery woes. At least you were gaining skills as an electrician and machinist. Amazing how this life teaches you stuff.

Cool you guys, well done. Got stuck coming out of the Exe after buying my boat on Ebay (first time sailing her) and have since sailed far and wide without too many problems.

Hi you guys I am gradually getting to see all your videos. They are really good to watch and I have to say you are two of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet, even though it is only on here. I live on my boat and have done a reasonable amount of sailing. The longest trip being from Nice to Ipswich. Would love to meet you both . Stay safe guys

Ahoy Bora Bora That was a great episode, if you don't mind me saying your getting better at editing with each episode. 🤙 Bummer about the batteries from eBay, unfortunately somethings you just have to pay full price on to get warranty if they fail prematurely. Qu; How far behind realtime are these episodes ? Cheers from SV Breezy 🌬⛵️🌏

Chris Jarvis Thanks a lot! It's so hard to know what should stay, and what should be cut, when editing 100's of hours footage into minutes!! We're learning to film quality over quantity as time goes on haha! These episodes are actually one year behind 🙈 BUT we are working hard to catch up...just uploaded episode 8 which brings us to March this year I think, we're hoping within the next two or three episodes we'll be up to real time 😊

Definitely contact Ebay. You at least should get your cash back there, but the freight is a write off

The correct saying is "you get what you pay for" and its pretty much true I have found over the years. My wife hates it, but she is coming around after 23 years that spending a bit more gets you so much more. Usually.... I would fight the battery with ebay. You should get your money back. If not give them a great review..... lol. Did the shaft come out ok?

Bob Fomenko Yes, they guys at the fishing boat place did a pretty good job. It was within 0.3mm everywhere and runs smoothly now. I think they must have heat straightened it, anyway very good value.

Hi Ben, you seem well enlightened on most things...fyi you cant heat straighten "stainless" as it work hardens!...V blocks & a press only way...bent prop, a good argument for folding props aye ( but they have their problems nothing a spare cant deal with though) saves the shaft...even new batteries fail test...I live by a rule, lifes too short...waaaay to short...to do anything twice...consumables, I always by new...tools I always by old :-/...doesnt let me down

I Binged watched all the episodes! Excellent work on the video's.... I'm very curious about that stabilizer or drag bag you place in the water to stop the rocking at anchor? Maybe I'll get to see it more in a future episode...Thumbs up!

Thanks for you kind comment, yep we have a revised version made from 2 plywood boards hinged like a butterfly it's a bit better, but not a silver bullet for the old rolling problem. It will feature in future episodes for sure. Happy sailing!

You should of bought the old school 12v train tram battery at half the cost and will last 3 times longer, And they can be re energised over and over again. Flee bay 2 bit dealers i would never trust, Send the battery back and give the dealer his problem back and remember to give him a red star for his pathetic effort so other people do not get ripped off by slimy crime!
