Excellent information provided by an excellent speaker, Randy, who also did an admirable job as an interviewer. This video should provide vital information taking away a lot of the mystery for success, but also a great video for inspiration. It isn't everyone who have the room nor the resources to afford such a large tank, but it is always a motivation to see someone practicing what they preach . . . and succeeding! Nice job!

Nice work BRS. I would never pass up the opportunity to learn more about one of the hottest stores in the country. I think it is important to note that WWC runs the lights on that tank for 12 hours a day. That could be a very good reason why they are having so much success with average par numbers around 200. This would be a great subject to put some more resources into. Maybe instead of having to buy so many lights to achieve such high par numbers we can just run our lights a little longer. I would love to see a BRS investigates on this subject. Great video!!

Hey brs, I noticed wwc keeps their alkalinity at 8.6 but uses salt with an alkalinity of 7.5. They don’t use 2 part on these tanks so I’m curious if they adjust the alkalinity levels of the new saltwater before doing a water change? And if so, what do they use?

Randy, I notice in the video you where you talk about their modified AB+ schedule that WWC runs their blues and violets at 100% and their whites and greens at 50% with their red at 10% during their peak hours from 8-12pm but there's no mention of the master slider which appears to be at 75%. That would leave me to believe their actually running at 75% blues and violets, 37% whites and greens, and 7% red. Is that about right? I'm trying to mimic their schedule with a different brand of lights and could imagine other people doing the same and running in to set everything at 100% when it's not actually at that level.
@BRStv
@BRStv 3 жыл бұрын
Unlike other LEDs that don't have an "intensity" slider, the beauty about the Radion is that it automatically scales the individual color sliders (spectrum blend) in ratio as you adjust the intensity output (PAR) to meet your tank goals. For this example, WWC set their spectrum blend using the individual color sliders referenced here then tuned down the overall PAR of that spectrum blend to match their PAR goals. If you wanted to mimic WWC's spectrum blend, just set the sliders for each color like you saw in the video, then use a PAR meter to adjust the intensity until it's in the ranges that work for your specific tank.

He kinda reccomends leaving the lights off for 3 or 4 months, so what do you just keep the tank topped with RO, no water changes? Also is the tank being feed in that 4 month period? Whats keeping bacteria alive? I really wanna try this method out with a neww 220 gonna get going, but have s few un answered questions still.

Most of us don't have the patients to wait a year for a tank to cycle. I just started a new tank cycled it in just a few months and never had any algae or cyano outbreaks. I accidentally added something to the tank that seemed to out compete the nuisance algae and they never had a chance to establish themselvesx I sent in my method to BRS about a month ago.

Doesn’t necessarily affect the corals but I’m wondering how these guys keep it down below .1 without. I’m assuming the water changes are responsible keeping that number in line. Is that the case?

Most recommend schedules show leaving green LEDs pretty low. I hate not using available LEDs in my AI primes. Now that I see WWC using 50% green during the white spectrum, and also seeing natural coral reef spectrum having a good portion of green, do you think green is an acceptable LED to using now during the white cycle? Or is there a proven reason not to?

I have a HOB protein skimmer , iam using a gfo reactor and let the water from it drain in to my refuguim its hanging on, i wanted to add a bio pellet reactor but everyone says it needs to empty in to my protein skimmer , i reall dont have way to that i can have it drain right next to the input of the pump , but its still in my main tank , so where is it safe to empty the out end of the REACTOR in to , can i just drain in to my refuguim also , or can i dump staight in to tank next to pump pick up , or should i not add a bio pellet reactor if i dont have a sump or can i run the bio pellets in to the gfo REACTOR, one in to another , if so which is the best order to put em in , Bio pellets first then GFO then out in to tank or what ?

@@BRStv i really only use the refuguim to keep my pod population up , my gfo reactor pick up is in the tank and exits into the refuguim, i was going to add the biopellet reactor with a mix of bio fuel pellets from continuum and biospheres from reef octopus, i do have a have a tank with a heavy bioload as far as fish and some coral , but do plan on adding alot more , and i do feed very often , i was planning on using a 1/3 of recommended pellets to start , is this a bad idea ? And if you think this my strip the tank of what all the coral needs what would be the additive or additives i would need to keep coral growing strong ?

The one thing that has me confused is WWC mentioning they use Chemiclean in the event cyano gets out of control. Chemiclean states to do a 20% water change after 48 hours of use. On a 900 gallon tank, that's 180 gallons of water. Is WWC actually changing out 180 gallons of water, or are they low dosing the Chemiclean and foregoing the water change except for what normally gets changed out through daily replenishment?

Personally I think when you get into tank sizes this large that the "rules" for how to make a great tank do change, you either have a really good tank or you have a horrible tank, not a lot of in between. Being able to have schools of herbivore fish that you just can't have in smaller tanks, plus the one thing that many people forget with these display tanks in stores is that they a small army of people who are on top of all the maintenance of the tank not just a single person as is the case with home aquariums. And no disrespect meant towards WWC, but I am curious how many of those corals have been in that 4 year old tank for 4 years (or close to it), while I do see lots of grown out stuff, I also see lots of frag plugs with maybe mini-colonies on them suggesting maybe not everything is as grown in as it looks from a place that regularly gets shipments of corals. Again I'm in no way trying to put this tank down, it's absolutely fantastic, however I do think people do need to temper their expectations on what they can do at home instead of trying to emulate exactly this (on a smaller scale)
