I think what is padding the old mattress is what we Yanks call "Excelsior" or wood wool. It's used to pad a multitude of things, though not very flame retardant so using it in a mattress is kind of scary. Pull out a few strands and burn it. If it is wood, it'll be great to use as a mulch in your garden beds. Or put it in your compost and let it break down. I think using the mattress springs as a trellis is a great idea! Oh no! 😮 we really felt for you with that awning going like that! Especially in the middle of the night! Luckily our gazebo went early evening so although still a big pain in the backside, a lot easier to deal with than yours! I do love how Rooney likes to always be in on the action, especially when Clare is trying to dig! 😂

Your gazebo served it's purpose but I was getting workshop envy looking at what you did with your outbuilding.rooney does like to be in the thick. She hasn't spent more than a few hours from me since we got her so clingy but she doesn't half lick... Anytime we bend over to pick up something she is like a lick seeking rocket! We got her a kitten to play with will also keep rodents down, will you get a cat or two?

I dont think ur supposed to use cement on a stone building it doesn't let it breath.. I've watched so many stone building channels that say never use cement so ur building can breath and not sweat.. Its morter and sand point let it dry then brush it.. 😊
@WestCorkWander4 ай бұрын
We use hydrated lime in our mix with cement with varying ratios depending on internal external and structural and aesthetic. The lime aids breathability and can be safely used with cement. Cement on its own is no buerno

You are going to have some serious muscles when you're done. 😂

We got great muscles but they faded over winter... Starting to build them back up now 🤣🤣

Feel for you guys with the awning! We used to have a caravan on a seasonal pitch years ago and many a night we prayed for an awning still in tact in the morning! Maybe angle the van in a different direction so the van takes the brunt of any future winds rather than the awning. ❤

Thanks guys, yip lots of lessons learned. Actually, lots of lessons learned about the land and what winds affect what and where we have protection. I've anchored it with fenceposts, use a sail instead of awning and park our two 4x4 infront of it when stormy. Seems much better now, and lesson learned.

@WestCorkWander good plan. We are the same every day is another lesson learned! 🤣

An idea for securing an awning or a tent down longer-term that I’ve used is you cut the bottom half of a bucket get a 24 inch piece of rebar bend it about 6 inches so that fits it still fits in the bucket Bendet I on the other end and fill the the bucket with concrete and the rebar. One bag of concrete should get you three of them then instead of tent, pegs you dig a hole and put the anchor in. Don’t forget the spray paint the rebar with safety orange so you don’t trip over it?

thats a great idea, will defo give that one a try!

Love to watch you brave souls tackling all the different projects and problems. Where are you going to live over winter? In the caravan or house? Just thinking how you’ll manage to stay warm and dry. Fall is well and truly here in Ontario, temp going down to 2C overnight tonight.

In the caravan, fingers crossed to get our kids in by xmas. Our videos are a few weeks old, we have reroofed the main house now (ourselves... what a trip!) and our two kids rooms will go in there once we roof the kitchen / dining room at the side... starting that this weekend! Myself and clare like a cold sleep so well brave the cold. dont think it gets that cold here tho all said!

Hey, really like your videos. I’m going to be applying for the grant next week. I have one concern tho which I hope you can help with. When you applied and the inspector from council came out and viewed property, did he say anything about having to upgrade your septic tank? As this is big money so my worry is that will be factored into the 50k Thanks
@WestCorkWander8 ай бұрын
No he didn't mention it. But if U apply for any kind nd of planning they will enforce an upgrade.
