I highly doubt Psyonix has zero control over their game. Regardless of all of Epic's faults regarding RL (Rocket Racing staff reallocations, trading removal, and the whole "item shop" debacle, which would have happened regardless of Epic Games), Psyonix has continually dropped the ball as a company. Poor communication and lazy content nobody really wants are core issues, both of which are (IMO) hardly caused by Epic. All Epic cares about is money, so why is Rocket League not pumping out actually cool cosmetic items that Fortnite players will buy? I highly doubt the percentage of players looking through the battle pass and thinking "these cosmetics are awesome" is larger than the percentage looking through and only liking 1-2 things from it. It genuinely feels like Psyonix has just become lazy. That may be caused by Epic, but I imagine what they'd be doing if they didn't get bought out would be the exact same as they are now. In the end, this game cannot really be kept fresh. You can't touch the core feel of the game, and nobody really enjoys the LTMs they make. All I see in regards to suggestions from the community are: - Lethamyr modes added (niche at most, little longevity) - UE5 (would not change anything outside of how the game looks, would take immense manpower to port) The only real change I could think of is either a complete revamp of core mechanics (which would risk their entire player base leaving) or better training options. The latter is doable but wouldn't do much in terms of saving this game. The core focus of this game has always been soccar. They can't change anything about the gameplay, so new content is essentially cursed to be either cosmetic items or new maps. People will always get sick of that eventually, so the longevity of this game is almost entirely dependent on the experience of improving.

I think a simple thing they could add to show they care about the future of RLCS is add easily accessible cash cups for people to strive to win.

@bailey29 For half a decade (I believe) we never had these issues with Psyonix. They always kept the game fresh, and found new and exciting things to add and innovate. I understand that there is only so much you can do with the game, but that doesn't mean you abandon it and still pretend to the players like you care. It is not a coincidence that things got boring, repetitive, and lazy once Epic bought rocket league. As Rizzo said, some of the developers were likely laid off - and others likely pulled away to other projects (including rocket racing). Simply put, Epic just want rocket league as an asset. They are neglecting the game, and they do not care about improving it.

​@@zebraslegendytYou have a point with Psyonix keeping things fresh - that doesn't mean it was good. Having maps like overpass and wasteland in comp were fresh, but weren't good imo. Spamming new cosmetics via an in-game gambling system was not good (but was fun). I think I, as well as most people look back at pre-epic RL with rose tinted glasses. If they added something like overpass into the game now people would be outraged; Psyonix is kind of in a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" situation. They would have to think of genuine improvements for the game to actually appease the mob. There are definitely changes they can make to improve UX, but in terms of internal gameplay changes they would likely be met with disdain. Imagine if they made each car model handle differently; octanes move 1.5x faster in the air but use more boost, merc's can carry 200 boost but are slower in general, etc. The community would hate this. This game has never really been "fresh" imo, especially looking back at when I would have considered it "fresh". I do agree with a point rizzo makes in this video, the extra gamemodes absolutely need to be messed with and completely changed each season. This would probably be the only reasonable way they could try and keep the game fresh, but I genuinely just don't think they have the manpower to do it anymore. I will admit that obviously epic acquiring psyonix was a net negative for the game. However, it also made the game free-to-play, and exposed it to millions of people. I think that also contributes to Psyonix's cosmetic focus as people don't have to spend money to play anymore. In my opinion people attribute the issues Psyonix is having to Epic games too much. I don't personally think Epic has any obligation to make RL a better game, everybody knows why they bought it and to expect them to do otherwise doesn't make sense in a business sense.

I think F2P was a fine choice, it gave the game lots of new players including me! They just didn't use it to their advantage AT ALL like Mew said. The only thing they did was monetize the hell out of the game and eventually try to convert people to their main cash cow Fortnite. If RL was still owned by Psyonix and they went F2P, the game would be in a totally different spot.

F2P did wonders for the playerbase from what I've read and Psyonixx wasn't a great dev before that people seem to conveniently forget. What I don't understand is removing the game from Steam, all it does it lessen the outreach of the game to people who only use Epic launcher or know about the game. But this is typical of Tim Sweeney, he's not interested in creating a good product or launcher and using that as a way to incentivize users to use his products, instead he forces them over with timed or permanent exlusives. RL is a finished game tbf and I'm not sure what you can really do to the gameplay to make it better but a fully fleshed out creative mode, better training maps, Esports spectating would be nice and I imagine that would be possible with UE5. Just sad to see another game not get the support it deserves like you said.

@@Olliecksdee the thing about psyonix isn't they were good devs. it was that they listened to the community and decided how to proceed based off that. They also gave updates on what they were doing and tweeted about upcoming changes. Epic only tweeted about the f2p, taking trading away and RLCS BLAST. besides that, it's ALL promotion to buy stuff we don't want or need. everyone over 15 understands they need to make money by pushing promo's. but give us some actual updates in-between.

Even if they recreate Rocket League as a new Rocket league 2 in UE5... will people even play it? 1. The items: Is there a way to get the items in an automated system to RL2? if not, that would mean you need manually transfer millions of accounts into RL2 which is a lot of Work 2. the gameplay: If RL2 is a completly new creation... Do you think it is possible to recreate the physics 1to1 into the new game? Even slight changes, like mikro seconds of a delay, a ball going 0.3° in a different angel of a wall will make it "feel" absolutly unplayable, escpecially for pros. everyone would need to relearn the game.

Yeah I hear ya man. I am 39, and Been playing since 2015 and made champ like season 3. But soon realized that my old ass would never be as good as these 14-16 yrs, and have since played just to have fun and laugh. If my teammate whiffs on a ball, its more funny than anything, bc I know that Ive done that same thing a million times too. Its rare to find people on there who are just chill and dont care whether they win or lose. I'd rather lose the game, but in hilarious fashion, than win some boring sweatfest I remember watching Squishymuffinz play a few years ago, and in his videos he would always have the mindset of: "Never blame your teammate. If you lost, there was something YOU could've done better." Then he would watch his replay, and point out a mistake he made leading up to the opponent scoring. It was humbling considering at the time, he was the best player for NA.

I'm 36, but I haven't felt like I've hit a wall at all, besides simply not having tons of time to pour into ranking up to get matched against better opponents. I'm constantly improving, wiping the floor with teens and younger adults daily, even ones that you can tell take it seriously (from their goofy rl style usernames and practically stock fennecs and octanes blah). Getting good is a mindset! Age is a number! Don't let the world of mediocre people program those dumbass excuses into your brain! If you don't got the time though that is 100% fair and honorable and says more good than bad about you probably lol.

nah lmao once you hit high gc the game just gets started, learning crazy FS mechanics, joining scrims with pros in 6 mans rank b+, joining tournaments and winning money. Can't just play ranked for 6 hours a day and expect it to be fun

porting/remaking the assets isnt the problem, its the coding that would cause trouble

Im using the term assets here lightly to mean absolutely everything basically Models, code, animations, litterally everything. But the point is the fact they're doing that rn w rocket racing essentially. Taking the UE4 cars and adding them to UEFN which id assume is much easier to go full on UE5. The game would be a disaster if they went str8 to UE5 without an intermediate step or some really really solid testing. It has to feel just like current rl or people will hate it. They can get more $ too this way w rocket racing and put it towards making RL better. But thats kinda just a dream at this point i feel like.

I *care* about my casual rank, because I always want to fight better players. @@basebutter ubi-nadeo does not= ubisoft, ubisoft is partnered but the developers are still Nadeo. Thats why we dont have loot boxes and 9 million microtransactions lol. Club edition has been here before ubisoft so thats not really a driving point either. The only thing ubisoft could do to ruin trackmania is have Nadeo change the driving mechanics drastically. Which wont happen

ah, so you’re a post free-to-play player I see. every car USED to have their own unique hitboxes back in 2016-17. they then realized that people only used a few cars, they standardized the hitboxes into 6 categories to motivate players into experimenting with different car bodies without having to get used to an entirely new hitbox.

1) I've never experienced that kick off lag unless on the exceptionally rare bad server; if it's not your connection then it's your region; I'm in TX and play east servers at around 60 ping. 2) your controller is fucked, you need a new one; the drift is a sign that your sticks are worn, you can fix by turning up dead zone but RL is the one game where you *want* sensitivity, so save your allowance and just get another *quality* and *brand new* controller; this is also why your camera does that; also it doesn't happen in other games because other games typically have way higher dead zone on the sticks than RL, again for obvious reasons. 3) sorry for your experience bro; if I could share my amazing experience with you I would; love this game and have zero complaints and I hope it never changes.
