Hey everyone! Just wanted to share an update that this month we will be donating to the Black Resilience Fund instead of the BLM Organization. Some of you shared with us that there was some controversy with the distribution of funds with the BLM Organization and after looking into it, we thought it would be best to just choose a new organization to be safe. Thanks for watching our video! :)

Thank you for that intro. Solidarity and activism is so important, especially now. Veganism is intersectional, it is love, should be accessible/diversified, and it is actively working against oppression. It's refreshing after what unnatural vegan just posted omg 🤦‍♀️. You two are such a great representation of what I want to see more in veganism 💕.

I am a 70 year old black grandmother and a new vegan (since August 2020). I have been following you for a while and love your channel. Thank you for your compassion and love. I thank you for my grandchildren, the next generation and pray they don't have to ever experience what I have experienced in my life. With people like you the world will change. Thank you.

One type of video I'd love to see would be collaborating with members of the BIPOC community who are vegan to learn about how any unique recipes they have to share or working with non-vegan BIPOC and making a sort of challenge video where they teach you a recipe and you work to find a way to veganize it and they give feedback. Could be especially cool for a variety of indigenous American dishes.

Thank you so much for the support! This time is hella stressful and I love that my favorite you tuber's are getting involved. I totally appreciate that you want to give money but please consider supporting candidates that have your same values, sitting on a board, or even getting involved at a local level to make policy changes. Policy changes are the way to make these horrific incidents stop and young people like yourselves are the best way forward in this time of crisis. Again thank you!!!!!

I know you've been sharing posts about local Black owned vegan restaurants/vegan friendly restaurants so you could go to some of them and show options there or even try and talk to the owners about their food! Also the people Jasmine's been posting could be potential collaborations? Maybe via zoom or in person (depending on location and the state of the pandemic) but cook a recipe together that they have and learn it from them

Not to sound like a hippie but my spirit always clicked you both. I always thought you all were a fair and conscientious couple and not flashy which sits oh so well with me. But especially as a Black woman (Canadian but I live in Japan) I sooo appreciate the ACTION you are taking and not just saying an 'oh yeah Black lives matter' as an afterthought as the majority of my favourite vegan/other YTers have done. THANK YOU!!! So now I go back to my silent sub corner and salivate over these WFPB burgers yummm!

Thank you for speaking up. Besides collaborating with diverse content creators, maybe recreate some of their recipes or do a day of eating based on a recipe book. This may not be in line with your aesthetic, but I'm curious about the brands that aren't quite up to standard. I'd like to be a more conscious consumer, and I know you'll be more selective in future, but I'm wondering what to avoid or be on the lookout for. If you don't want to call brands out, maybe do a video highlighting good ones and with tips on how to inform yourself on the company's ethics?
@mirandac3878
@mirandac3878 4 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of a video on how to inform ourselves better! My local BLM group recommended the app Goods Unite Us, which shows the political parties that companies donate their money (aka your money if you shop there) to. It's a good place to start, but there's a lot more that goes into whether a company is good like whether they treat and pay their employees well, what kinds of laws they lobby for, their sustainability, etc. What you're going to find is that the vast majority of corporations are not good because corporations at their core are greedy and the goal is profits. Support local small businesses as much as absolutely possible, but nobody can be perfect. Participating to some extent in this unethical system is inevitable but we just gotta do our best. Everyone doing it imperfectly is better than a few people doing it perfectly.

I would also suggest doing some videos featuring resources that are likely to be encountered in a food desert or rural area. For instance, what if someone only has a walmart or dollar general or dollar tree nearby? BIPOC folx are disproportionately affected by poverty and food deserts, so this could be a good video idea. Challenge yourself to what you could find at a corner store or gas station, that type of thing. There may be some food desert areas in your area. I know in my state of Wyoming this is often an issue.

On the topic of donating to BLM, I saw this tweet and a couple other tweets from people (one a former BLM organizer) about how national BLM is not transparent about how they use their money and doesn't help fund the local groups. I haven't fact-checked this myself, but if it's true it would be much better to donate directly to local BLM groups who are doing the actual organizing on the ground or donating to NAACP. So glad y'all are being active allies! twitter.com/brownblaze/status/1270044318456180736

Jasmine, at the beginning you said that when talking on topics like this you were afraid of saying the wrong thing or not enough. Just last night I started reading “So You Want To Talk About Race” by Ijeoma Oluo and I can already tell what an amazing tool it will be going from here and having those uncomfortable conversations with family and friends. If you haven’t already I highly recommend reading this book because I already feel more confident going into such conversations❤️

Thank you for your intro, lately I've personally been finding it difficult and frustrating with some of the white people that I thought were friends or just cool people. Honestly, I've been deleting people the silent ones, supporting for views and especially the ones that showed support in the opposite direction. It's not fair, it hurts, it makes me angry, upset, mad, sad, etc. But, I do appreciate y'all listening, learning and supporting. Thank you. ✊🏾🙏🏾

Great looking burgers! We just tried Miyoko's new oat cheddar on a Beyond burger. It's excellent, but it must be cooked. It's not that tasty raw. The cheddar flavor's there. It just wanders around in a disconnected way until it's melted. We didn't see Louie. Is he still there?

We all really have to consciously act to fight racism and it is beautiful you've decided to help regularly in the best way you can. I only hope this tragic situation will open people's eyes to other types of social injustice as we have to remember, color is not the only characteristic making some people more vulnerable in the modern world!

It is wonderful to support and love on our black friends! Just a word of caution, some of the organizations/charities that claim to stand for black lives are actually pushing anti-Semitism. A bit hypocritical in the fight against racism. And please remember, Jewish people have some heritage in places like Ethiopia.

David Mcgregor Agreed. But please remember that Judaism is more than a faith - it is a race of people.
