A brilliant fight scene from the underappreciated mellowlink anime.
For short context this show takes place in the Votoms universe, its a revenge story about a soldier taking matters into his own hands against people who wronged him and his comrades. Mellowlink is a soldier who refuses to pilot an AT (the mechs in the votoms universe) and prefers to fight them head on as a human using guerilla tactics.

The way it constantly shows believable ways for the AT to move around in the castle (IE the spikes in the ruined stairs, the wheels against the wall to aid "climbing" to the second floor, etc.) is a level of detail I haven't seen in forever.

That was one of the things that really surprised me, the attention to detail is crazy, you'll find these details in more of Takahashi's work.

actually has to reload, cleary shows a set of camera lenses the AT uses to see, reduced vision arc inside the AT so less situation awareness than an infantrymen. Might have to dig out and give it a watch

@@rokinz3270 It's also literally powered by explodium and while the protection of its armor is extremely inconsistent, it's generally somewhere between "very poor" and "almost comedic".

This fight realy shows the the wide spread adoption of the AT is so prefelent. Credit this is an exceptional pilot but really shows why if an AT can fit it'll be used over regular infantry.

@@heymay724yes. Inspired by a hydraulic fluid used during the Vietnam war, dubbed ‘cherry juice’. It was a great working fluid but insanely flammable. I know it was used in helicopters and I think it was also used in M113 APCs.

ive only seen a couple clips so maybe im wrong but i like this character because he doesnt seem like the typical overconfident edgelord smirking the whole time. hes just incredibly crafty with crazy battle awareness and tactics. like as hes running and breathing like holy fuck am i gonna pull this off lol. like i said maybe im wrong so i accept any internet abuse as i press send lol

I agree. I like that he appears scared, tense and that his plans don't always work and he has to improvise something. An absurd level of plot armour sometimes but that's the nature of the premise, I guess.

I always found it funny that Armored Trooper VOTOMS and Mobile Suit Gundam use the exact same sound effects. About the only ones that are unique to each series are the sound of a beam-saber activating and the weird whining noise the AT's wheels make. Also that the Polymer Ringer that makes the AT possible is also the reason that they freaking explode like bombs with the slightest provocation in VOTOMS.

In the far future they forget how to make 40mm automatic grenade launchers. I mean maybe the votom was armed for engaging hard targets but 40mm grenade or a 37 mm bofors with airbust delayed munitions would have made this a short fight.

I was told just recently the masters being destroyed in a fire was a rumor a long time ago. Lo and behold in 2021 the masters were found in sunrise studios archive, (the video your seeing here is ripped from the perfect soldier bluray in japan only)

@@spazmonkey2131 Indeed, i forgot to mention this comes from the Perfect Soldier Bluray Boxset, it was a limited thing that came in a suitcase and now it costs upwards of $500 to $700, it includes all votoms content in 1080p except for shining heresy.

That's correct, the masters were found and bundled with the VOTOMS bluray.

@@yummycookies58Strangely no explanation was given on how the Mellowlink masters were acquired. As for Shining Heresy the studio is still looking for the original master film reel, worst case scenario that one may be lost or destroyed so it'll be stuck at DVD 480p quality.

imagine the AT using the Anti-Material Ammo and dealing 20 - 80 shots to destroy other AT (in other VOTOMS series) and here the soldier Merroringu using the same thing for his Anti-Material Rifle like everyone else in the whole platoon Shuepps but it's just a fucking peazy .22 lr sniper rifle that can't even pierce the small plate that put on the AT. You got the power, but it's up to how you gonna use it right.

Polymer Ringer Solution's hella energetic. It what makes VOTOMS be as fast as they are, but also gives them the death trap factor (if it leaks and ignites - and it ignites easily - the mech is as good as dead, if it doesn't have automated fire suppression)

@@caav56 Specifically- it CAN'T have fire suppression because it catches and explodes too fast for it to be extinguished. By the time the system kicks on the mech will have already been a pile of slag.

It got an HD bluray remaster on the perfect soldier boxset in 2021, a limited available item in japan that comes in a suitcase. They were able to find the masters in their archive.

They're super legendary Japanese wine made by a master Japanese winemaker! Actually I'm not sure - maybe Mellowlink set it all up in advance and filled the bottles with liquid explosive. Or it could be super legendary Japanese wine.

@@Goji1 Indeed! Those familiar skating sounds were the first thing I noticed and the round-headed mechs look like the Zion mechs from Gundam. And it would seem that the Assault Suits Valken & Leynos series on the SNES & Saturn are not related to Votoms, but are certainly inspired by it. Wow never seen this anime till now. Its Gundam esque. Anyone ever watch Eskaflone? Anyway this fight scene is both cool and 🙄As if the guy in the AT suit wouldnt have locked onto him and gunned him down instantly or shoot him through a wall.
