The Sherry is a guitar that really benefits from a bridge upgrade. It sounds pretty good in standard from but a little boxy with only so-so sustain. A Tonepros bridge really made mine breathe and it became this chiming, sustaining thing. By the end I put high end wiring and better pickups in mine too but bridge upgrade alone made it sound like a higher end guitar.

I've got one made in Korea in 1988. It has the Epiphone by Gibson headstock. The pick ups were not great, so I had Duncan jazz series pick ups installed, with coil splitting and out of phase switching. It sounds great now, can get everything from full on jazz guitar to almost a Telecaster sound. My constant go to guitar.

You're probably not old enough to remember that back in the early 60's all we had was flat wound strings. We liked them just fine. Of course thats all we had so we didn't have much of a choice. Then I played a Hagstrom electric 12 string Viking. I really liked that guitar but I couldn't afford a Ric which is what I really wanted. Man I miss those days. They were the best ever.

I had to comment on the flatwound comments. First, as a jazz player I use primarily Thomastik flatwounds and I use them even on solid bodies such as my Fender 60th Anniversary tele. They provide a darker tone (without being mud); less noise when sliding are going from one note to another; last a lot longer than round wounds and contrary to popular belief will not ruin your truss rod if the guitar is properly set up. If you hate flatwounds then you are hating on some great legendary past and current jazz guitarist. Round wounds are great strings and serve a person and so are flatwounds.

I like the "Eraser" trick! I used to go to the pharmacy and buy Kotex Maxi Pads and cut them into 2 inch strips to keep it snug. When my customers asked why I did that I told them " It's because a guitar needs Periodic Maintenance Once A Month"-- Just Joking!!!---Duke

I have an Epi identical to this one. Its one of my favorite guitars. I grew up in the 60's when all we had was round wound strings. Then they were like 3 bucks a set which was a lot of money back then. I'm getting ready to buy another Epi Sheraton 2 Pro in Wine Red. I don't think you can beat Epi's for the money. I've never had a problem with any of the ones I have.

Thats a B.S. Parker in the beginning of the video by the way..either that or a lemon. My parker deluxe could be left out in the snow for a week and not even need to be tuned again because the neck is extremely tough. just keep in mind if you are looking at Parkers that none of the cheap models came out until Ken Parker sold the factory. Buy used before the buyout!!! They used to be custom shop quality. I just wish the new ones didn't even have his name on the headstock. Its a shame.

Not only do flat wounds have the most tension, they sound like dull, old, strings. I have never seen the point of them. Jazz players can just use rounds and roll the tone know back.

Sad, I was hoping to find a good video on setting up an Epiphone but found quite the opposite.

Radio Shack has some great cleaner and lubricant for pots and switches. I use it on my Goldwing switches as well to clean and lubricate them. Just don't get it on the finish extra careful is the procedure when using it.

I put flats on my Sheraton for the 1st year I had it, thinking they lent it a more jazzy sound. Not bad, but I didn't use it much so I switched to round wounds. I like the Sheraton a lot. It plays great, sounds great, too. I would never pay for an ES 335. If you're paying by the pound, you truly do get your money's worth with the Sheraton.

Epiphone makes a couple of good models....the Sheraton and the Casino...are badass guitars, when set up properly.....also some of their higher end SGs are almost as good as the Gibson counterparts......

I have had a few Epiphones and have always been highly critical of the pickups which seemed flat and lifeless to me. Until now that is.Their new Probuckers are a huge improvement.Still don't like their other newish ones though--Alnico Classic PRO I think they are called.

It didn't. Epiphone printed the epsilon on their pickguard for a period. This guitar was made during that period.

i have a guild starfire 4..it was made by fender,after they bought out guild...(no longer made)...like it better than gibson es335...for half the price...would rather have the guild than, epiphone even if it does cost a little more...(thats if you can find one)

I wouldn't assume to replace with round wound strings as he may swear by what he uses for Jazz or somethng

Did they make different versions of the Sheraton? I had one that didn't have Gibson on the truss rod cover and had a thinner body (at least that one looks thicker).

I have an Epiphone dot 2015. When I play a chord and move the guitar back and forth I notice that it goes out of tune temporary, kind of vibrato sound. In my others guitars it does not happen, it seems that the neck on them are harder and more stable than the Epiphone. Any tip? I appreciate any help.

Dave, no offense, you seem like you know the basics. But you dont know the first thing about strings, tone, etc...etc... Please provide empirical data when you make your comments about flat vs rounds. Almost all jazz players prefer flat wounds and are used on much more expensive guitars. For you to say they cause damage is ignorant. Also, your lack of knowledge about them amd what they are points out your inexperience as a guitar tech.
