Episode 1 how to fix Toyota clear coat with Rustoleum paint job Getting the hood into primer

There's something about the mid 2000's Toyota Clear Coat!!! Basically if you have a Toyota you know what I mean. In this video I'm repairing the clear coat peeling issue by using Rustoleum. This happens to be a "practice run" before I use the same process on our 1979 Ford F250 project we are restoring that we call #midnightmaroon
Follow along as I take this 2007 Toyota Corolla from a peeling clear coat finish to a shiny "new" looking custom mixed shade of maroon. We were hoping it would be a little darker maroon than it turned out, but that's why you test first!

A tip for even better results: do also stir your paint before taking it out of the can. Manual shaking will usually only get you so far, stirring will help mix in the solids that have collected on the bottom of the can.

You should try rust oleum 2 in 1 primer, it fills and sand better

I have been painting my tractor and I first did it with the rust oleum etch and filler primer same as you used painted it got done and didn’t like the outcome so I sanded it down and second time went to my sherwin Williams auto paint place about an hour away and got some epoxy primer to seal it. A gallon will last me several projects! It with reducer and a catalyst was about $165 I know a lot more than $15 bucks for the rattle cans but man was it a totally different outcome! But I have tons left over… I have several paint guns and finally pulled the trigger on the 3m performance spray gun omg is it nice just toss the stuff in the trash get a new liner and pow! New gun! So far I have sprayed the epoxy primer and then I ordered some evercoat slick sand and it’s currently drying looks great so far only thing I don’t like about doing all this is the sanding and mess the sanding makes! It’s this stuff fun though I’m like why havnt I been doing this my whole life!

That’s awesome! I will invest in a better gun before taking on any “real” projects! I love my garage/shop time!!! My son spending more and more time out there with me too. Good times!!! 🙌🏼

Looks good even though it's not the color you were going for! What kind of australian flag is that? I thought Australia had a red white and blue flag too...

It’s got a kangaroo on it and a constellation in yellow stars. Not sure exactly what or why to be honest? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I bought it cuz it looked cooler than the National Flag of Australia.
