IN THIS EPISODE OF THE HUMAN UPGRADE™… Harvard psychiatrist, researcher and assistant professor Christopher Palmer, M.D., introduces a bold new premise about the root cause of mental illness based on decades of research. He integrated existing theories and research into one unifying theory-the brain energy theory of mental illness that’s rooted in your metabolism.
In this conversation, you’ll learn how he uncovered the connection between mental health and metabolic disorders of the brain-a connection that lies in mitochondrial dysfunction or dysregulation.
Learn more in his new book, “Brain Energy: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Mental Health and Improving Treatment for Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD, and More." brainenergy.com

I loved this episode Dave and Chris! I work on the psychiatric unit at a hospital and hate how the meds change my patients behaviors and not for the good sometimes. I’m a Art therapist and teach my patients the importance of their diets and their state of mind. I tell them to do their own research on what will work for them. Now I have a book to refer them to read. Thank you for all you do!

I’m just a layman mom of two adult children with several mental health challenges and my own chronic pain. But this interview explained the deep concepts in a very understandable way. Bought your book from this. Sending this interview and the book to doctors i know.

I found vinegar has boosted my mood. I didn't think that would happen but there are studies. Essentially it goes right through the blood brain barrier and right through the mitochondria membrane and has very positive effects on the mitochondria themselves. I neutralize it with potassium bicarbonate so I don't have to deal with acidity issues.

Dave this was fascinating and may help me with my metabolic syndrome which indeed messes up my cognitive function and even I can experience delirium. Indeed I discovered that carbs are my enemy. Vigorous exercise is absolutely essential for me. Btw, your comment about the 2-year half-life for replacement of bad lipids in cells, might be the most essential data point I took from this. Maybe I need 2+ year continuous to reset my metabolism, fatty liver, etc.. Note that might also apply to the unnameable jabs (else comment is censored by YT) which ostensibly involved lipid manipulation to introduce the mRNA into the cells.

Beautiful interview! Love the compassion here for struggling people. Question: Does the severity of metabolic dysfunction correlate to the severity of mental illness? Or, does it have more to do with the brain regions where the metabolic dysfunction occurs (or a combination of both)? Thanks!

Yes, I am very glad for including quantum physics as influencing mitochondrial function. It appears to be a no-brainer that of course it does, but why then is it so often overlooked in research? Why, as Jack Kruse points out, do we do all of our lab work under artificial light without accounting for lack of daylight effects of the physics involved? Mitochondria are certainly quantum engines. Get the physics people into the labs more, and have them bring their own lights? '

Or, maybe there will only be enough funding by the medical paradigm for them to just bring their own 'blue blockers' to the lab?

the surface of a cell can act holographically i.e. its surface represents the cells inner electrical field. so the absorption of near infra red photons is regulated interference like .. building and destroying surface ridges and valleys... representing of uplift and down ward inner currents. theses must have duration and be the memory of the epigenetics.

I think we’re going to see a class action lawsuit against the companies that make statins that’s unbelievably large, at least, that’s what I hope. The risk of developing diabetes while on a statin tends to be higher in women, but yes, can happen to men too.

Not clear at all how trauma leads to compromised mitochondria (am I alone?) or how to fix it (other than wait for stem cell technology, and eat butter for 10 years). Has any one gotten more clarity than me?
