This episode is a special first on the show. I have never gone ON LOCATION to meet an entire ensemble for a conversation before, and let me tell you... it was worth the gear haul to Lawrence, KS! GRAMMY Award winning ensemble, Chanticleer was at the Lied Center of Kansas for a performance and Master Class at KU, and was able to squeeze in some time for YOU the Choralosophy Audience. The twelve men of Chanticleer and I had a fast paced round table discussion about what it's like to be at the Choral music mountaintop in the ensemble, about the vocal gymnastics of counter tenors, the unique space that the group occupies somewhere between "choir" and "chamber ensemble" as well as their thoughts about what it takes to create truly MAGICAL performances and moments in music making.

So interesting! I’m really enjoying this deep dive into the nitty gritty making of the “Chanticleer” ensemble. Thank you all so very much! ❤I have never heard Chanticleer live. I’m going follow you and hope to find a performance near me soon! 🎵🎶♥️

Adam Ward has to be a Merle Haggard fan. We see these guys every Christmas at Carmel Mission Basilica in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. I had my closest brother pass from cancer at 42. He was a tradesman and part time rancher. When going through his effects I found the We Sing Christmas CD. Chanticleer brings me warm memories of my brother.

I've enjoyed seeing how the "falsettist' contingent of Chanticleer has grown in size and influence over the years allowing them the amazing flexibility to perform any SATB or other arrangement, but I also somewhat miss hearing the richness of the traditional male range. I wonder if their current contingent of ranges (or current culture) would allow them to regualrly, for a number here and there, showcase the traditional TBB range. There is nothing old-fashioned, unpleasant, or sexist about that range. I would be impressed (and delighted) by that kind of flexibility and variation.

I've been a fan of Vineel Mahal since I heard him sing the counter-tenor part in barbershop quartet in The Music Man in high school. He is a special talent and a remarkable man!
