i’m loving how the infection is spread compared to the spores in the game. mouth tendrils and having it act more like a fungus being able to communicate like a network is very similar to the yellow slime mold fungus (the yellow fungus shown in the opening intro theme), and it really is more creative than just, air sickness 😵‍💫. and the creators are right, spreading through spores and humanity wouldn’t have lasted a week, there would be no Last Of Us it’d be None of Us.

@@ULTRAOutdoorsman i can answer the first one and say that it was said that wheat and bread are perfect substrates for fungus, the spores probably already grew in the bread when eaten. the other questions is just an example of looking into deep into the science of the show, which doesn’t make sense if that’s your argument of the game being more realistic because the spores in the game are not scientific at all either. Spores don’t concentrate and stay indoors, they are everywhere. Some liberties would have to be made to add tension ofcourse, and leave it to the fan base to come up with a perfect in universe explanation for all the questions you asked. and yes i do agree that HBO probably would’ve asked to keep the faces not covered, but it doesn’t take me out of the immersion in that respect.

@@ULTRAOutdoorsman Spores can’t stay in one place like they do in the game. You can’t run or escape spores because they are in the air. By having super unrealistic spores would ruin the show, the fungus is not supposed to be very far fetched from something that could happen irl. So if they included spores in a realistic way everyone would’ve died long ago, and the ones who survives would need to wear a mask 24/7. That doesn’t sound too fun to watch

The way the clickers communicate. Goodness. Just really amazing additional detail. The death of Tess is terrifying. But if the infected can sense who's bitten, why Ellie wasn't being followed or cornered by an infected? Then it made sense to me, because the fungus didn't manifest in her body, unlike with Tess and the other infected. That's so good.

I had the same thought at first, but towards the end of the podcast they mentioned that the only reason they didn't attack Tess was because she didn't fight them. Again further this episode they were doing raising cookie which Sarah did not try, because of the raisins. Then in the second episode they stated that fungus was discovered in the mill outside of the city - which as the doctor stated it was perfect condition for it's development and affect the flour. That means that probably grandma was infected because of the flour used in the cookies. I imagine that if Sarah or Joel would try the cookie they would got infected too.

In the game I am confident in my ability to deal with them because I am the character, and the character is Ellie/Joel. In a real life setting these infected would be so difficult to deal with. The lighter was hope running out but luck coming in sometimes...it makes the ending of the game that much more heartbreaking. Maybe there was hope for a cure but Joel didn't care. He didn't wanna risk losing another daughter.

The game goes for the vaccine route. Trying to prevent the infection in the first place. However, vaccines don't work for fungus. Not currently and not then. Anti fungal (let's just call it a cure) could take weeks to months to cure an individual. Which is far too long to stop someone from turning. So essentially, no cure and no vaccine. I believe what Ellie has is the same fungus, just a mutated version to be far less deadly and less invasive. But it attacks the other type of fungal infection extremely well and doesn't let her turn. However, the downsides are an extremely weak immune system (doesn't matter since the fungus fights every virus and fungus that enters her body for her. Hence why she doesn't, and likely can't, get sick.), and an extremely low body temperature. Hence why she always wears a hoodie. But she can give her fungus to pretty much anyone by doing a blood transfusion or even kissing them if it's also in her saliva. That's just my two cents tho

@@snakevenom4954 I feel like they'll still make some sort of medicine or vaccine in the show. In the first episode we hear "There are no vaccines, it's not even possible to make them!" and in the second it's "I've spent my life studying these things, there is no medicine, there is no vaccine", both said by scientists. It's really smacked over your head in a way that (to me at least) feels a bit obvious and makes me think we'll get a "Oh my god, it's possible!" type of revelation at some point. Because if they don't do that, the Fireflies (especially Abby's father, the doctor) would for a fact be _complete_ idiots and people would have far less of an issue siding with Joel because we've all heard scientists confirm that there is no cure. In the game it's more open ended, and people only really debate back and forth between "in the real world there is no vaccine for fungi" and "but this isn't the real world."

@@snakevenom4954 the entire game is built Upon the fact that the vaccine will actually work. Cause of it doesnt work, then Joel didnt do a bad thing anymore by taking Ellie away from the fireflies, she saved her. So now Abby's in the wrong and Ellie was angry to Joel when he actually saved her
@snakevenom4954
@snakevenom4954 Жыл бұрын
@@peoduction6068 There is no vaccine for fungal infections. Not with current technology and not with technology from 10 or 20 years ago, depending on the game or series. Secondly, anti-fungal medication does exist, but it takes weeks to months to cure an individual of the fungal infection. The cordyceps infection takes two days, at most, to fully infect the individual. In reality, a blood sample from Ellie would likely be enough to see what's going on. She's not immune. If she was, her bite mark would go away, and it would look like nothing happened. But she is infected, the infection just isn't doing anything. Take some of her blood and inject it into a prisoner. See what happens. If they turn, inspect further. If they don't, inject them with blood from an infected and see if they turn from that or if they're fine. Hence, it's her blood plasma. All you need to do is inject her blood plasma into your soldiers and they after a while test them and make sure they donate blood as well to spread the "vaccine". So again, not sure why the doctors would go straight to doing surgery to her brain. The brain and circulatory system are connected so by studying her blood you can get a pretty good picture on what's going on in her head.

Exactly we don’t need a carbon copy of the game. I don’t need Joel killing 1000’s of infected to feel satisfied, it’s just not realistic with how tough these infected actually are. In a game I can suspend my belief because it makes me the player feel badass for mowing every enemy down. IRL that would not work.

When they are in the capital and Joel tells Tess they can just go home, she yells at him, "This isn't my home!" Given her backstory, it makes so much more sense now. It's one thing to know what lies on the other side of infection, it is one thing to go through it and understand that this is exactly what your husband and child experienced. Of course she is thinking of her home, where as far as she knows, her child still is, and she is the only one who knows he's there. She wants to go home.

For those questioning about tess's kiss with the infected, you have to take a step back and remember what the infection does to the host. Realize that it was involuntary and the cordyceps fungus has already latched to her brain. Remember when tess was explaining it to ellie and how all the infected are connected. This is something that wasn't a part of the game but adds a whole new level of fear and layer to the original framework of the story. She still had some use of her brain that's why she kept striking the lighter and as it progresses her frantic striking slowed down. You can also see how beforehand she was losing control of her arm and hand as it was shaking and twitching. I think this was a beautifully crafted episode that is adding so much more depth to the original. In her last moment the fungus had totally taken control of her brain and dropped the lighter, she was no longer tess. Which i think gives closure to her character and I'm amazed that it was so perfectly executed. People may think its crazy how much people say it's the best adaptation of a video game but it truly is thus far. The episodes just keep impressing me more and more and I can't wait for next week's.

This is adjacent to the episode, but I really have to give kudos to the sound designers for frequently foreshadowing the clickers before we see them - even in a couple instances of a creaking door or another echoed sound, elements of the ambient noise sound like the clickers and it just adds to the suspense.
