hey Stuart thanks for watching, sorry for the delay, my best advice would be to look on google maps, save your places of interest in a rough pattern towards where you want to end up and then when you've got enough just stitch it all together and see roughly how long you need to get there. Leave time for the unexpected, but enjoy! I am also considering a 1250gs but the R9T is doing the job really well currently

Those R Nine T's used to be really nice looking bikes ... still good for touring I suppose. I did a similar trip about 12 years ago on a pan european st1300. :)

that must have been very fun! I found this bike great for touring although the long motorway stretches to get to the ferry on time was difficult

I recognise the slight confusion at strange junctions in Europe. It happens to me all the time when driving in Spain, can be quite scary and i never quite know if i am on the correct side of the road or not.
@AnotherHipster
@AnotherHipster 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Steven yes it can be really weird, if it’s really confusing I tend to just try and follow a local on their moped or car they normally come along just when you need them 😎

take a British mains extension with 5 or 6 sockets on it, that way you only need 1 euro mains adaptor.

Best using cash with unmanned fuel depots if you use card they take €100 plus fuel then credit you back after 4 days the €100

This makes me homesick for Europe. I did so many trips like this when I was younger, on a total of five bikes. I tend to keep bikes a long time. The best one for this sort of work: Buell Ulysses XB12X. What would have happened if your card had been swallowed at the petrol station? Not a criticism of you. I get nervous putting plastic in machines when I'm away. What is the name of the town you stayed in, please? Looking forward to watching this whole trip.
@AnotherHipster
@AnotherHipster 2 жыл бұрын
That all sounds so exciting, 5 bikes wow! I hope the trips were fun I have other cards & some backup cash. But in the Lake District once a machine held my only card for 10 minutes before randomly spitting it out so I was a bit nervous!

I would really love to do something like this one day, still need to learn how to ride first though hehe. Can I ask, do you speak any languages other than English? If not, how did you find travelling through Europe?
@AnotherHipster
@AnotherHipster Жыл бұрын
hi Jamie, that's great to hear. I learnt to ride purely for making commuting easier when I was 17 at college, but it turned into so much more than that and i was inspired by Charlie & Ewan to just head off alone. I only speak English, with some basics in German. I found it was fine especially in Europe I never found anyone who didn't speak english. I think the communication struggle will come when I travel further afield like Asia as english is less common there. Keep in touch & start following that dream 👍

Did you buy a one-way ticket to France and how long are you allowed to stay in Europe?
@AnotherHipster
@AnotherHipster Жыл бұрын
Yes I did and not sure really I never looked at that, I think 6 months is the limit especilly for my insurance I only have 90 days in the EU every year for free

How many miles have you racked up on the BWM and how did you find it on tour? Asking as a R9T owner.
@AnotherHipster
@AnotherHipster 5 ай бұрын
I've done about 16,000 miles in the past year & a bit. Mostly this trip + another one to France & Spain. I find it really comfy and it's the perfect size for me tbh. Mine is mostly stock but i've swapped to BMW single seat + rack and then unit garage Panniers. I tend to avoid motorways & that's the only time i wish the screen was bigger. but i've been through rain & cold plus incredibly hot weather and it performs all the same, just a lovely bike! where are you thinking of going?
@st8241
@st8241 5 ай бұрын
@@AnotherHipster thanks for the feedback, the motorway part is my only concern for them big days crunching mile. The potential trip is Spain next year or a full month trip to Nordic countries, across the Baltic Sea, down to Greece and back. Just debating if I should think about upgrading into a GS, which I wouldn’t enjoy as much on the daily.
@AnotherHipster
@AnotherHipster 5 ай бұрын
@@st8241 that sounds really cool, yes motorways are boring in general but that was the only time I felt like maybe i'd made the wrong choice. the rest of the time just riding around the B roads and stopping off at sights it was really helpful having something easier to manage. I am also considering the 1250 Rally but I just can't let go of my lovely R9T. Your trips sound epic either way!
