Roll Up, Roll Up For Episode 230!
Steve Matteo, author of the new book "Act Naturally: The Beatles On Film" joins us this week for a dive into the Paul-centric and driven project and the Beatles 3rd film, "Magical Mystery Tour."
Steve has published other works on the Beatles and is a regular Fest attendee as well. He will be at the NYC Fest in February. Steve chronicles his methods on research and we contexualise the MMT period (post-Epstein death etc).
While it may not be as revered as "Help!" and certainly not "A Hard Day's Night", "Magical Mystery Tour" is worthy of a viewing if only for the performance of 'I Am The Walrus'.
Thoughts? Let us know below.

Magical Mystery Tour is worth seeing if only for I Am The Walrus and Fool on the Hill. Love Steve’s book so far. Great interview guys!

You touched on it near the end but I really want to say how incredible it is that the Beatles started out as lovable moptops singing catchy love ❤️ songs and then 3 years later they’re singing Taxman and Tomorrow never 👎 knows, songs that are worlds apart from anything they recorded in 1963. Then a year later they made Mystery Tour and Pepper 🌶️ two projects how much they grew even more in just a few years. It’s amazing 😻 how much they changed and grew in each of the four years of their career at that point. I only saw the film 🎥 once as a teenager and thought 💭 it was weird and made no sense but clearly I need to watch it again because of this book 📖. ❤

MMT, the film, may have it's issues and critics but you can't deny the great musical numbers and the music in general

French singer songwriter Serge Gainsbourg (who caused also a creative and productive era in the 60s) also wrote 3 of his best songs in one night, as he fell in love with Brigitte Bardot.

TBH, the only Beatles movie that holds any interest for me is Let It Be since it shows them actually making music which is all I’m really interested in.

Steve's a nice guy but his constantly blowing his own trumpet gets a bit much.

Its kinda dated, on the other hand it has very modern unconventional humour. A bit like gen z humour. "Meme" potential.
