David Warner will stat pad against the lesser sides wholesomely and the good news for Pakistan is that they won't have to face him yet. But when they will, they will drop him and he will go on to score a huge score in an Australian victory!

Suggestion if you guys were open to it. Well 2. One, you guys should think about answering a couple questions from listeners, twitter or in the comments, or answer voice notes sent in by fans, Ive seen that play well in other pods. Would be cool in my opinion. 2, would love osman in particular to go into his piece on amir that just published, his relationship with the players on current team, and his ability to talk to them, or get them oneon one, as cricket is the rare sport where long form pieces on players are few and far between (shoutout to cricket monthly) i.e. i rarely see babar or rizzy, shaheen do actual interviews that provide insight on their mental headspace at any given time etc

great preview guys..thanks for this.....irrelevant question but what do you guys think of disbanding super overs in non-knockout matches? yesterday Oman and Namibia played their heart out and if you ask me they deserved a point each however going ahead with the super over gave Namibia the full 2 points and Oman ended up with nothing despite a very gutsy bowling performance

I feel we in cricket love the idea of a draw, but esp in knockout/tournament events I think you need results. think of penalty shootouts or overtime periods.

@@BattaFast yes that is exactly what I am saying that super over is great for knockout games but potentially detrimental in group games

The 2003 team was bad? Us young people had no idea. Wasim, Waqar (admittedly older), Akhtar in the attack. Saeed Anwar, Inzamam, Yousuf, Younus, Afridi in batting.

great names, but all were quite washed, esp Ws and Saeed bhai. Inzi was horribly out of form, MYK was never an ODI great.

Have the deepest respect for these two, but their continued support for Azam and Saim is baffling. I hope they will change their opinions rather than being Pakistani style defensive.
@BattaFast
@BattaFast Ай бұрын
thank you for the kind words. To provide some nuance, we aren't saying those two are infallible or perfect. But the way they bat, their approach and ability, is how white-ball cricket, especially T20s are being played now. We have a long history of cricket which shows that backing players and giving them stability gives them the best chance to succeed. With a WT20 in the Caribbean, it would be bonkers to drop two guys who have succeeded in T20 competitions there. there is no denying that Saim in particular hasn't played well in an extended (by Pakistani standards) run, but it's not like Pakistan is overflowing with batting talent. Perhaps most importantly, opening with Rizwan and Babar definitely puts a ceiling on your potential score, as does the tactic of not giving your best hitters the most time to bat. i've mentioned on the show before, but to me the debate in T20 batting was settled in the 2016 WT20 when the Windies showed that having six-hitters from 1-11 was the most efficient way to approach the format. they used that to beat far more diverse and versatile batting lineups and remain the most successful nursery for T20 talent. Saim and Azam can *potentially* be that for Pakistan in meaningful, tournament games. Dropping them and condemning them to purgatory (like with MHaris) only decreases your chances of success in the long run.

Grossly incorrect statement around 55th minute. Pak played final in 2007, win in 2009, semis in 2010 and 2012 in T20 WC and semis in 2011 ODI WC. So previous team was much more successful in the 21st century then this current team
@BattaFast
@BattaFast Ай бұрын
yes that's a very fair point. that era had a lot of disruptions in captains and coaches so its perhaps not a very coherent era but you are completely right that in raw numbers they were more successful.

@@BattaFast - thanks for clarifying.Also pertinent to note is that Pak players of early 2000’s were ahead of the time and had lot of T20 experience before 2007 (based on explanation from Misbah in some show) and Sialkot Stallions.Credit to them that inspite of so many disruptions till about 2012 they were super competitive.The bowling for sure was more talented than current lot-Asif, Gul, Ajmal,Afridi,Tanveer, Amir, Wahab even Hafeez would be counted as the GOAT T20 bowling line up (on similar line to WI of early 2010’s having GOAT batting) if not for the disruptions.
@BattaFast
@BattaFast Ай бұрын
this is the real tragedy, which I was reminded of from your comment. Pakistan was waaaay ahead of the T20 game, partly because of the popularity of the domestic T20 tournaments and successful teams like Faisalabad Wolves and Stallions, but I think also because everyone had grown up playing tape-ball which is so close to T20s. I think because of that till 2012 we were well ahead of the game.
