Major failures of Ramiz were drop in pitch, Pjl and too much focus on t20. I think Pakistan is capable of building fast and bouncy pitches from their own local materials. Important part is that you need qualified pitch makers so you need to properly train them.

One of the best episodes you guys have put out yet - very very informative and gives context to a lot of cliched criticisms that, especially, Pakistanis throw at cricket generally. Cricket, I believe, is definitely close to saturation but it doesn't mean it'll change - the powers that be have established their own status quo which they would more than happy to continue with; why would the Big 3 disrupt an already working model? Case in point is how the PGAT has been operating for decades. Until PIF (Saudi fund) came in and disrupted the entire landscape, and they could do that with a $980 billion fund, PGAT had no intentions of evolving into anything different. Golf has been revolutionized over the past 2 years, and if cricket really does want to become a "global" sport, as a Champions League might encourage it to be, it needs a market disruptor with no vested interest in to the current setup. Boring or not, I had super fun watching this. Thank you :). Wo alaida baat hai thorha biased bhee hu - OG Osman bhai fan hu, probably the only guy who pursued him outside of the MCG a few years ago to sign a copy of his book 😂. But I think he overestimated his prowess as a leader and ended up centralizing governance. All the decision making that followed are symptoms of that mindset. How do we decentralize PCB again? It got cancelled more due to the fact that CLT20 Final was basically the repeat of IPL Final. People thought if this is goanna be the case, why not another mini season of IPL.

Even after the mess, PCB could have formally announced Shaheen and Shadab as vice captains. Announcing they are part of the leadership group and will be providing direct consults to Babar. Australia did that by naming multiple vice captains. In a culture like Pakistan, power corrupts and so does lack of power. The only way to turn the mess into harmony was some sense of sharing and some path to captaincy for Shaheen and Shadab over the years.

Ahmer I would like to know when was that time where BCCI was not instrument of power for Delhi? Which time period or the strong BCCI leader you are talking about here? You mentioned Dalmiya, well he was very well connected to the Bengal political fraternity. He was donor of CPI while maintaining good relations with other parties their. His daughter joined TMC in 2016, ruling party of Bengal. What you think of BCCI being independent was just the different power structures competing with each other and the one coming out on top having a different agenda than the one at the center. In my view, BCCI was never independent. Just that the people in power at a different time had a bit different approach towards Pakistan, so they used BCCI to pursue their agenda.

This is a great podcast for a PCT fan like me. But when ahmar said he (Ramiez) was talking about Aus pitches just bcz it's Australian. I don't think that's right, I remember that he wanted true pitches where you could play modern day cricket (esp batters) A pitch where there is something for both the batsman and the bowler..

I can see the allure of wanting to be dictatorial when given the reins of the pcb because of all the toxicity and incompetence that you hear about but in the end, you have to realize you can’t do it all yourself so you do have to trust people to execute and you also have to think beyond your tenure. Humility, not arrogance. You also can’t do 50 things at once. I think rambo recognized that and always talked about the three pillars of commercial success, fan experience and cricketing product (think that’s what they were). I completely reject the idea that somehow rambo set the precedence for future chairmen to have centralized power. Come on guys. As though, corrupt people need precedence. What I disliked most about Rambo was that he kept to the 80’s and 90’s rhetoric about captains being everything. That only works if that captain is imran khan and even then it doesn’t really work, certainly not in today’s era. He did nothing with securing strong coaches and backroom staff for the national team. Just brought in consultants pre tournaments.

Ahmer you on a fundamental level think that difference b/w India and Pakistan is just the size and time-zone. That's not the case. Indian state is much much more powerful than Pakistani state when it comes to the kind of pressures that a group of billionaires can exert on central or even state governments. Every franchise in IPL is owned by someone who has made their money by being a good boy for some political party or the other. It is nonsensical to think that they would threaten center govt for essentially the pet projects for their children. Not one of the IPL team owner would lose a night's sleep if their IPL team is taken away, they would however would not like it to happen to their actual business.
