Terrific point about the amount of time it takes when training with a partner to swap out weights. Thank you for showing how they are uncomfortable with regards to the thigh-prep loading move in comparison to a normal dumbbell. I was most interested in seeing what they look like with plates on, which most of the other reviews didn't show, for some reason, so thanks also for that.

I got them to supplement my individual set of dumbbells I already have that goes up to 50lbs. The heavier weights are ridiculously expensive and take up so much space. I love the rogue db15s. to fix the pain of heavy weighrs when having them on your thighs for presses, I use a tennis ball. I don’t mind taking time to unload and load more time to do another rep on the next set.

It's actually not easy to find a good review of olympic dumbbells, this was by far the best one I've seen, you covered all the issues I care about. I considered these as an option instead of the Ironmaster quicklock dumbbells for my home gym. For me I think there are too big issues with these. 1) The lack of a flat end to rest on your thigh. 2) The sheer length makes them unwieldy. Against that, the price is far better, but, I don't think that actually matters since they simply don't perform like a real dumbbell.

@@PSON_ Hey, I’m not able to get anything still but I’ve decided on things like the Power Blocks or Iron Masters dumbbells. For my garage space, cost vs amount of weight per dollar, form factor etc. there’s a bunch of different options in this space of changeable dumb bells so look around. Also, they are still hard to come by. If I had a house and I wasn’t moving, I honestly would go with a fixed dumbbell set. I’ve been lifting for over 10 years so the cost would be worth it to me as I can’t live without lifting! So I know I’ll use them. Probably from REP as I don’t see the point in spending Rogue cost on dumbbells. Rack yes, db’s, no, Hope this helps.

@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 4 жыл бұрын
The plates are decently quiet if you’re dropping them etc. it’s like a mini barbell and the sound is about what you may imagine a mini barbell would sound like. The tighter the plate tolerance for the sleeve the quieter the plates.

I think a nifty life hack for these dumbbells is to also invest in a pair of knee guards like what the skaters wear. Try and find one that isn’t glossy or made out of a hard plastic so it doesn’t slip and slide off your knee. Theoretically, this will allow you to jerk it up with your knee like a normal dumbbell.
@BrandonSchwartz1
@BrandonSchwartz1 4 жыл бұрын
You can also “reverse load” the dumbbells with the largest weight at the end furthest from the handle. That gives you a nice little platform to set the plate on your leg that’s more comfortable than if you had the weights with the largest diameter closest to the handle.

You can buy one of these for $150 and you'll be able to row as heavy as you'll ever need to, curl as heavy as you'll ever need to, 1 arm snatch, 1 arm press, jerk, etc. You can "hug" one to your chest and do front squats . That's just what I've done I'm sure there's way more. They're pretty versatile for the price considering they can be as heavy as you'd ever need since you can load 25s on. I do agree the bumpers are ridiculously priced. I think when I check them out it was more for 1 pair of bumpers than the bar itself
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 2 жыл бұрын
They are an awesome unit. For the price it’s difficult to compete with the versatility I just personally felt that they left a lot to be desired. If space is at a premium, which for most people that’s a thing, these are an excellent choice. I will say that I dislike using my 25s with it because the diameter of the plate takes away from a row movement though. That’s just my opinion but I believe that 10s are the biggest steel plate that should be used.

There's no way I would trust spring collars to hold a lot of weight vertically above part of my body. They are fine for stopping weight plates sliding horizontally on a barbell, but dumbbells are used at all sorts of angles. I feel a lot safer with spin lock handles.

As an alternative, if anyone wants to try olympic dumbbells just to take advantage of their already existing plates, and they don't want to spend $135 a piece, I suggest buying some pieces of 1-1/2" pipe and putting them together with 1" pipe for the handles. You can use flanges for the ends to create a flat surface to lift off the thigh if you intend to bench. You can also choose what length you want the sleeve to be, in fact you could buy separate 6" and 8" pieces of pipe in order to make sleeves of different lengths. Just an idea I got from another video I saw, there's a couple tutorials on how to make these on youtube. Cool review!

These or the Eleiko adjustable dumbbells? You see, the Eleiko's do come in pre-loaded sets of 40kg (which is roughly 90lbs) for a total of €1.695 - clearly expensive but when you try and put together a similar set with the Rogue's adjustable you'd have to fork out a whopping €1.832. I am torn between these two. What shall i do?

@@TheKurtlocker Never heard of them. As far as i am concerned, it'll all come down to either the Rogue's, the Eleiko's or the Gungnir's, though considering i'd still have to buy the plates to load them with, it's either Rogue or Eleiko. But the problem is that i am actually planning on replacing a standard set of dumbbells, so i guess i am in the wrong frame of mind already. Once again, what do you think? If you were to recommend one over the other, what'll it be: Rogue or Eleiko (considering the plates as well)?

I’m really sorry but I honestly can’t give a solid recommendation. If I had ever used the Eleiko set I would be comfortable but I haven’t. The Rogue ones were solid, and paired with AbMat’s new end caps the knee issue is less of a thing but that’s common between all three mentioned.

I just bought a pair of Titan's and saw this review, and I'm glad I did. I think they have their uses, I see them as potentially being very useful for lunges, farmer's carries and shrugs-- for seated triceps presses before al the gyms closed due to COVID-19, I was getting ready to progress into the 130 range (though I'm probably going to just do modified skullcrushers on an ez-curl bar and flatbench to replicate that at home)), and have no desire to rest dumbbells with small, protruding handle with a large weight on my knees/thighs. I think they're an ingenious product, but not at Rogue's price-point.

I just bought a set of these too and have a different pespective on them. What I agree with you on: 1. They are high quality like most rogue products. 2. These are not superior to a full set of dumbbells IF you train with other people and both people need to use dumbbells at different weights (seems uncommon in a home gym but I'll give you that). 3. The custom Rogue bumper plates for these are WILDLY expensive. What I disagree with you on: 1. "These are not better than a set of dumbbells". I happen to think that they are far superior to a full set of dumbbells. a. They save a ton of space when you consider they can go up to 150-200lbs per dumbbell. For a powerlifter like me, that would be a ton of dumbbell space. b. They are a ton cheaper than a full set of dumbbells. Again, they can go up to 200lbs per dumbbell, which would cost between 10k-20k in a full dumbbell set of that range. c. I HATE tapered dumbbell handles like you described lol. I think most lifters that press/pull over 150lbs would agree with me. Tapering distributes heavy weights poorly. 2. Your complaint about how to kick up heavy weights for pressing and the bars/collars hurting your legs made me laugh so hard that I about fell out of my chair. Come on... Have a little common sense here. a. I specifically did NOT buy the Rogue OSO collars for that reason, knowing that I would be pressing them. You can look at those collars in two seconds and tell they wouldnt be good for that. b. I bought $10 metal spring clamp collars off amazon for pressing. c. This is really the biggest mistake you made here, which makes you seem a little dumb in my opinion... PUT THE BIGGEST PLATE AT THE END OF THE BAR AND PUT THE SMALLER PLATES INSIDE. If you put a bigger 10-25lb plate on the end, it rests on your leg easily. I incline press between 150-200lbs this way no problem (with the metal spring clam collars facing out). My personal opinion? This review was dissapointing and somewhat not very well thought through. Just my two cents.
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you watching and thank you for the feedback. I hadn’t thought of putting the smaller weights on the inside and the larger on the outside and that’s an excellent idea. As foe the tapered dumbbell handles, I hear and agree with you. I prefer the handles that are not tapered but the example I show is the tapered. In terms of handle feel I think that the DBs are some of the best out there. As for the collars, we have had drastically different experiences with spring collars. I don’t mention it in the review but my experimenting with spring collars was pretty negative and resulted in a lot of weights not staying in place on the sleeve. I still don’t recommend spring collars on the DBs. As far as the OSOs are concerned, I would likely recommend a different collar like the HGs or the smaller aluminum collar from rogue over a OSO or spring collar any day of the week. Just my opinion and I understand your experiences being different. As I stated earlier, I really do appreciate your time both with your view as well as your feedback on the video.

Squats - tried using 10 kilos on the bars, felt like my head was put in a box ; totally uncomfortable. Bicep cursl - plates above 11 lbs hit my body, so I'm still a few inches short on the full range of motion. This is what I meant by being " spot on " the problem. You make really weird comparisons. Who cares if a regular dumbbell is tapered and this isnt. And you showed a 15 lb dumbbell for a size comparison, when dumbbells get progressively more massive. You can easily load this dumbbell to 150 lbs and a 150 lb dumbbell is huuuge

do you have a set of regular dumbbells for things like curls and seated pressing? i was looking at these or the iron masters

I have a few dumbbells. I have never personally used the ironmasters, but they seem like a better design if the intent is to replace a dumbbell set
