Should you buy a pair of Olympic Adjustable Dumbbell Handles? Here are the pros and cons that I've found! They are a great addition to your home gym that opens a lot of variety to training with a low cost. They also conveniently save a lot of space, but is it worth it?

Exactly the questions I had and you answered them all. I also want to expand on my home gym, but I don't want to take so much space taken with dumbbells. I am a noob, so probably just starting with the handles will be heavy enough for me 😂

I have owned dumbbells like these for the past 5 years or so. The big down side for me is they are impractical for shoulder press workouts. Its critical to be able to have the dumbbells closer together. They aren't too bad for bicep curls and chest press but I think a more narrow design is generally superior

Make a chart with all the weight combinations of the weight plates you have and keep it in an A4 size plastic sleeve so that you can refer to it and assemble your weights really fast.

Super helpful video! One question, what size handles are those? Would 20" be too unwieldy to do bicep curls, chest press, shoulder press? Thanks in advance!

Hey man, sorry for being so late to reply. I think these are around 17" or 18", I can't remember exactly (I sold them a few months ago since I moved :(). Like I said, you just have to be more fluid with your movement. They work just fine with bicep curls - if you want your arm to pass your torso, you're just going to have to get your hand into neutral on the way down and supinate on the way up. However, bicep curls are also quite nice to perform with elbows together, letting them stretch infront of you and not letting them go past your torso, so either works fine. Chest press and shoulder press, the only issues are regarding the set-up. If you can get past having to rest the plates on your legs, the exercise is just fine. If you want an added stretch on the way down, again, you may just have to move your hands into neutral, which isn't a bad thing, and is probably necessary with regular dumbbells anyway.

I got some skinny Lockjaw collars (Rebel BEAR grip) from Rebelstore in South Africa. I think they are a local brand, so I'm unable to give other recommendations. :(

I have bumper plates only, could be possible to use them with lunges.

Yes, but might be slightly bulky if you use a lot of weight

Con : training with a partner , this can be solved relatively easily but is still relative to who you training with. Tip : Do different exercises , so if you using the dumbbells for your training , however you still want to train together they can use the bench-press bar as an example , so you can still train together just need to adjust training strategy
