Brought me tears too. Keep in mind too, some hold it in until they cry alone...or hold it in until years later or let it out through drugs or other coping actions. It's heavy stuff. Bless to all medical personnel that go through this stuff because they truly care and work hard to just hold themselves together. I'm glad she's able to cry because it's a healthy way to let it out.

After many years as the supervising RN on the night shift...we had an 18 months old baby come in with no vital signs. The child was cold and blue...had obviously been gone for a while. Still...I met the parents in the parking lot..grabbed the baby and began doing what I could as I ran to the trauma bay. We worked for over 2 hours before the Dr stopped the code. I couldn't stop! He physically had to pull me away from the baby. That's been years ago. I'm retired now and I'm crying while typing this. Did I ever get numb to what I saw? No, thank you Lord...I never got used to it.

So real when the nurse started crying for a brief moment, wiped her face, and said "Next one". Even in the ER where our hearts truly go out for the patients, we have to "get it together" before the next one just so we are also giving our all to them. This is a different type of strength.

Nurses are amazing! They've been there for me at some of the worst times in my life, when bad things happen to me or a loved one. I'm a cancer survivor. They've held my hand when I'm scared; their gentle voices helped keep my mind off of things when I was anxious; and they've hugged me when my mom and sister died. Nurses are angels on earth.

This is so true. I had to stay at the hospital for a few weeks when my Dad had cancer. Everyone knew it’s terminal and the nurses had so much empathy not just for my Dad but for my family. They would do a lot of little things to make sure we are comfortable because it’s not comfortable sitting there all day watching your loved one waste away. Those “littles” acts of kindness and compassion meant a lot to me. It’s the reason I try to volunteer for charities sometimes because u never know what kind of difference it can make to others. Pay it forward!

Agree! On the flip side of that, us male patients are kindly asking you female nurses one thing..... could you please stop sexually abusing Male patients when we are unconscious and under anesthesia. Most commonly going up to innocent defenseless unconscious male patients under anesthesia and lifting their gowns up for NON MEDICAL REASONS but to laugh and gawk and sexually humiliate them then further sexually degrade them by gossiping about their genitals even to other women outside the hospital. Or PURPOSELY leaving unconscious male patients exposed when it isn't NECESSARY and having other female nurses who have NO BUSINESS with that patient come in and look I could go on and on and on with stories. And the female nurses who dont do this stuff but turn a blind eye to the ones that do and dont report them are JUST as complicit, they absolutely would report it if it were male hospital employees doing this to unconscious female patients but they ignore it because its being done to male patients by female nurses. So ya, can female nurses stop sexually assaulting unconscious male patients. Just remember.... due to the environment EVERY female nurse helped create either by participating in it or ignoring it, allowing female nurses to sexually assault unconscious Male patients, remember that YOUR sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, your best friends sons, nephews have been sexually abused thanks to the environment they helped create. So well done female nurses YOU ALL created an environment that allowed your OWN SONS AND FATHERS to get sexually assaulted by female nurses at hospitals. Good job should be proud of yourselves 👏👏👏

Nurses are awesome. They make everything possible. We as doctors write the orders (sometimes at the request of nurses) and the nurses take care of the rest. They are the shoulder the patients can cry on, they're the ones who give the medicine and the treatments, they take the patients from place to place, they keep them clean and happy, they keep track of how well the patient is doing and make sure to coordinate whatever additional care they need, they are the biggest advocates for the patients' well-being. Everyone in healthcare plays a crucial role but, in many ways, nurses are at the core of making it all work. Thank you for everything you do!

As a survivor of a near fatal bicycle accident I owe my life to the entire staff at the ER. But one thing these fine people don't get are any updates on the patients they treat.☹ I encourage anyone to return to the ER and praise the workers. It means SO much to them. Because they get no updates from the hospital about the ER patients. Healthcare workers RULE!

I worked in UK for a while and I can definitely say that English patients are the sweetest lot. They never forget to thank the staff. We used to get e-mails and letters ( yes, the English people still think a hand written letter is closer to your heart than an electronic one). The policy of our hospital was to circulate those letter of appreciation through internal e-mails. Over that, we had a wall in the lunch room covered with 1000s of Thank you cards. Oh, I miss those days.

This really makes me appreciate my mom even more she is a nurse and some of the things she has to go through on a daily basis are crazy. Each day she comes home and just acts like it’s any other day. When in reality she could have lost a patient that day or had to deal with a difficult case. It’s just amazing how strong nurses are emotionally. I know it’s something i could never do. Nurses really do deserve more respect.

dolphindolphy yah growing up with a nurse as a mom, I totally agree. She's hospice now and literally she tells the doctors what to do. The doc will see a patient once the whole visit... the nurse sees them once every hour they are there.

except y'know, stuff like the surgeries. & this is coming from someone who is the equivalent of a nurse, but for our (predominantly) quadrupedal best friends (i.e., dogs/cats & then there's the world of exotics, but that's a whole other story...). point being, i get the trials & tribulations of nursing. i also agree with yr statement wholeheartedly, because i live it daily. i still want to ensure that the doctors out there get the respect they deserve as well, although it's refreshing to see so much appreciation for a historically heavily undervalued field of work.

Student nurse here! I got to go to the ER for a clinical rotation a few days ago and let me tell you, those nurses are some of the best. They're very on top of things and very aware of their patients. One patient coded the day I was there and they had him resuscitated, ventilated, sedated, restrained, and took an x-ray in less than 20 minutes. They also shared a lot of rectal stories with me. (Please don't stick things up your butt guys.)

My ex was a nurse back in the 70's and 80's, when they still had to wear white uniforms and hats. At least once a month she would go to work in her uniform and come home in scrubs. I almost never saw those uniforms again and, after a couple of times, I learned not to ask what happened to them.

How did no-one go and hug that girl whenever I see someone crying I can't help but stop and hug them I'm just a cashier at a supermarket but one time a customer came through and they had just come in from a funeral and I shut off my line and held her for about 2 or 3 minutes just because she was crying and I couldn't not hug her. And I don't mean that in a bad way or anything it's just my instinct like watching this I wanted to like go over and hug her but I obviously couldn't

You're a female so you're treated great. A LOT of female nurses do some WILD things to innocent defenseless unconscious male patients under anesthesia. Most commonly going up to unconscious male patients under anesthesia and lifting their gowns up for NON MEDICAL REASONS but to laugh and gawk and sexually humiliate them then further sexually degrade them by gossiping about their genitals even to other women outside the hospital. I could go on and on and on and on with stories. It's mostly to unconscious male patients under anesthesia typically post surgery. but even to conscious Male patients. Be thankful you're a female, men endure some CRAZY stuff at hospitals that women would NEVER accept
