The Hamster Army! Your inch and my inch are very different, always specify if the stylist doesn’t. I’ve had people ask for 3 inches off and show me 6 when asked .

Mow TM your perception of what an inch is, is very different than other people’s. Being in the hair industry for 14 years has taught me that. I’ve seen people show 2 inches, 1/4 inch, etc. So I learned to ask, because rarely would anyone show me an actual inch.

@@mihaelahuban5287 I'm not sure why people do it. In my experience it's how children pronounce "ask" until they outgrow it, but it could very well be due to accents in adults or a variety of other reasons. It always just hits my ear wrong.

One of these days I’m just going to walk into a hair salon and just say “help me” I’m dead serious. I’ve never in my life was able to achieve the beautiful locks that I dreamed of since I was a little girl. I’ve tried so many things and I’ve remember having break downs because I was just so angry and sad that my natural hair always looked bad. At this point in time my number one fear is a professional hair stylist saying “there nothing else we can do except cut it all off.” I’ve been growing my hair out for 16 years and it’s not even shoulder length.

I'm curious, what type of hair do you have? Also you should cut your ends even if you are letting your hair grow out, if you don't use heat tools there shouldn't be much damage but the ends need to go. Also drink lots of water and take vitamins and massage your scalp when you wash your hair to stimulate growth.

demonicastar thank you so much for the helpful advice but I’ve tried all the things you’ve suggested. My hair is frizzy and nappy and brittle. I’ve used multiple products to make it more smooth and easier to work with but the effects don’t last long. I think the only option left for me is to except that my hair is to far gone. It’s just so unhealthy and the amount of money I’ve spent in the last few years on hair products is extremely ridiculous. And I’m honestly just tired. I’m just so tired of crying and hating my appearance because of my stupid hair. But thank you again for trying to help

@@bleujay6127 awe sweetie don't give up I work in a salon and I've seen very compromised hair come back to life. We work with Redken products and their most recent line is for people with very dry and coarse hair it's called all soft mega. Hair that's dry and fragile require a mix of protein and hydrating treatments every two weeks and wash your hair mostly with a no foam shampoo and every now and then a low foam shampoo. Be blessed and I hope you are able to find the right products for you.

try an olapex treatment at a reputable hair salon. It has a lot of protein in it, which is good for dry brittle hair. I think they sell it at Sephora too, so you can do it at home

So here’s one: My cousin is a hair stylist and her teacher told her a story that I’ll never forget. A mom brought her son in to get a haircut in the teachers salon one time before she became a teacher while she was still taking regular clients in the salon she was working at, the boy sat down in her chair and she immediately smelled something horrible but ignored it. As she started washing the boys hair she felt a large bump on his scalp. She looked at it and it looked infected. Puss oozing out, red, swollen, the whole nine yards. That’s also when she realized that the odor was coming from the bump as well. She stoped washing his hair and brought him back over to the chair so that she could look at it. She happened to poke it with her comb and the bump moved from one part of the boys head to the other. This poor boy had lice so bad that they had burrowed themselves into his scalp. She was horrified and called the mom over. The mom was in complete denial and said that his head looked fine even though it CLEARLY was NOT fine. She got very defensive and angrily left with her son. Still gives me the heebie jeebies thinking about it.
