How to Perform Basic Maintenance on a Honda EU 2000i Generator

This video will teach you how to service your portable Honda generator by following. Just follow Mark's simple steps.
Helpful items include a screwdriver, spark gapping tool, dish soap, (spark plug) boot pliers, oil funnel, a small container, rags or paper towels, and motor oil.

This is the best video on proper care of the Honda generator. It's clear and concise. If folks follow this advice they will have many more trouble-free hours of use than those whose attitude is "when it breaks, then I'll fix it".

Why put a dip stick on the cap, when the oil level has to be at the edge of the threads?

Thanks for this awesome video. Could you pls advise on how to set the carburator for operation at high altitude... About 6000 feet in the mountains. It comes with standard settings and I couldn't find any info about it. Thx in advance

Honda uses that same cap on hundreds of different engines. Some use the dipstick as in indicator and others get filled to the top of the threads. The owners manual always states the correct oil level. In the case of the EU2000i generators, there is also a tag on the side of the generator stating the correct level. Thanks for watching, -Mark

One of the most important things I like to do when storing my generator for an extended period is to shut off the gas valve on the fuel line and run the generator until the carburetor is empty. The other thing I always do is to mix a fuel stabilizer such as Sta-Bil with the gas. Other additives are available and will perform the same task. The Ethynol used in much of our gas supply tends to become gummy and cause damage to the fuel system on most outdoor products and even on cars stored for an extended period of time. Once this is done I'd either store inside or make sure the generator is covered to keep moisture out of the components.

There is a cable connector behind the power knob, if you disconnect it, the motor will not shut off when you turn it off right away, rather it will run out the gas in the carb. The gas is shut off but not the power. It takes a minute or two after turning it off. But it clears the carb of fuel. I saw the idea on another video.

If you're looking to change the spark plug boot, it is a fairly simple repair. First, remove the boot from the spark plug, then twist it in a counter-clockwise direction to disconnect it from the wire. Then, take the new boot and insert the wire into the small hole on the back. Turn the boot in a clockwise direction to tighten. Now firmly push the boot onto the spark plug. You may need to use a little oil to slide the boot onto the plug. At this point your repair is complete. If you need more help with your repair, please don't hesitate to reach out! Good luck with your repair!

What kind of plug and synthetic or conventional oil? How bout a squirt 8:05 into carb carb cleanerwhy didn’t you ck oil level with dip stick? Screw in or dip it? You left that part out🙉

is the e2000i and e20i the specs

These 2 look similar but the 2000I is for the US marked 110 volt 60HZ power supply. The EU20i is 240 Volt 50 HZ power supply.

How much oil and what size plug

It looks like the recommended plug for these is the NGK (6535) CR5HSB. I've gone through the owners manual for these and the repair manual and there is no mention of the oil capacity. The following link is for the owners manual. www.geotechenv.com/Manuals/Honda_Manuals/EU2000i.pdf. This does show the recommended viscosity and other useful information for you model.
