Great tutorial. And that's an excellent tip about using a gap tool before installing new spark plugs. It's common for the gaps to be misaligned due to rough handling.

100 hours? Ha. I guess I should have read the manual. I’ve had my 1000i for 20 years. Never changed the spark plug. Didn’t even know it had an air filter until just now. The oil has been changed 2-3 times. Still runs great. :-)

Like your method of the tape to replace the exact same amount of oil as removed. I have overfillied too often so will use this technique when I service my unit this fall. Thanks. A great video.

Good video. There is also a finger fuel filter attached in the fuel line at the outlet of the fuel tank. I would also include the cleaning of the spark arrestor, the complete draining of the fuel system. Including the tank. To drain system as thoroughly as possible run engine until tank is empty and engine shuts down. Set choke to rich and start engine until it stops repeat until the engine will no longer run. Remove spark plug, loosen the screw on the bottom of the carburetor and pull starter cord until bowl is empty. I used a flex claw and bounty or viva paper towels to absorb any excess fuel from the fuel tank. Then leave the fuel cap off for ten minutes to allow the remainder of the fuel to evaporate. Sometimes it is more appropriate to clean the spark club, I use a brass brush instead of a steel brush. My generator has 48 hours and I have changed the oil nine times averaging an oil change every 5.33 hours. Anytime I run the engine for any amount of time I change the oil. I have changed the oil after one minute of runtime. It may seem excessive but used oil is very acidic, high in hydrocarbons and various metals. These deteriorate metal parts of the engine, the seals, the timing belt, and the oil level sensor. Oil is cheap. Do not use synthetic oil until the engine has one hundred hours of use. since synthetic oil is too slippery and does not allow the rings to seat properly. And use marine grade gasoline. If you are storing the generator fog the cylinder using fog oil. When I lose power I do not want to be diagnosing fuel problems, cleaning a carburetor etc. These machines are expensive and I have two of them and do not want to replace them because I was too lazy to maintain them. Hope this helps.

A simple 10-30 or 5-30 will work. Conventional or semi synthetic would be great. I don’t think there is any benefit to full synthetic for these.

I'm sure you checked that spark arrestor, right. I just had mine serviced by my local Honda shop because it was running so rough I was pretty sure the carburetor was needing cleaning and I was right. Apparently, it's kind of tough to get to the carb in these. At least that's what they told me. It's a great machine when it's running good, that's for sure. Thanks for sharing.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends 3 жыл бұрын
I did. And it was in good shape with minor carbon build up. Was good for another 100hrs easy. The Arrestor is easy to remove by taking the back cover off with 4 bolts then the 3 10mm bolts on the muffler. And on the back side of the muffler you pull the flame arrestor screen out, clean and replace. Unfortunately that video section was compromised for some reason and I had to scrub that section. And I already returned the gen to the customer.....:(

@@johnnysweekends my Petrol generator and water pump manual both recommend me to change the oil at 100 hrs but considering that both are small air cooled 4 stroke engines which have both 600 ml of oil capacity. I shortened the interval to 50 hours cause I noticed that the oil already turn to a darker colour on 50 hours of use. I use whatever Diesel multigrade engine oils 15w40 with an API SL ratings ( my user manual recommends me to use an API SJ or higher engine oil)

I honestly feel 100 is too much for these splash engines as well. Maybe 75 in ideal conditions and 50 in more harsh conditions. But yea I bet most oils will work for these little engines.

Great video Johnny. Do you think there's an advantage to using synthetic oil vrs regular oil? Thoughts?
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends 5 ай бұрын
I have loooked and looked for years and asked even oil engineers. They said and even small shops it’s almost impossible to see if regular oil, semi, or full will provided a “definite “ amount of added engine hours. The most important is changing frequently because no filter and not abusing the machine. I use both semi and full. Semi for break in and full after. I have no idea if it matters and anyone else who says you should use regular oil, bean oil, marvel mystery, oil, has no proof to back anything up. No side by side tests, no pistons to compare no cylinders with wear marks and more. There is no data because they are just outdoor lawn mower engines. Buy a decent name brand oil and change it frequently. I use Amazon basics, Walmart, Kirkland because they are all from warran distribution if I remember.

I don’t remember the oil capacity on that unit but just fill it to the bottom of the threads of the oil dip stick. I think that one is around 11-12oz but been a while. Choose any oil ya want just change it at least every 100 hours or once a year and you are good. Wal mart super tech synthetic is just fine or even Amazon basics as it’s almost the same stuff. Or if you find a good deal at Costco. 5-30 will work as well

@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
No it’s $8.50 a gallon where I live. If it was a few cents more or $.50 cents I could justify it. So I use a neutralizer, Lucas products. Which is more then just that. Been using it for years and I just don’t have issues anymore like I did when ethanol came around
@happeefeelings
@happeefeelings 5 ай бұрын
@@johnnysweekends I don't use non-ethanol fuel either in my Honda EU2000i generator, however, I do drain the fuel out of the carburetor after each use of the generator by loosening the screw at the bottom of the carburetor bowel. The fuel drains out of the carburetor bowel through the fuel line that exits the bottom of the generator. Re-tighten the screw once done draining the bowel. This keeps leftover fuel from gumming up the carburetor while in storage. By performing this process, never any issue with restarting the generator even many months later.
