Eric wrote this song after his toddler son died from falling out of a window in an apartment building. He did it as therapy to help move on. It was also used for the soundtrack for the movie "Rush" which is shown in the video. Many played this at loved one's funerals which is understandable. Don't feel bad, I still get choked up when listening to it. Eric "Slow Hand" Clapton is iconic as a guitar artist and singer. A must is "Layla" when he was with Derick & the Dominos (actually he was Derick). And when he was with Creme listen to "Sunshine of Your Love".

Millie, my friend, absolutely proper reaction on SO many levels. Knowing this song was about Eric's toddler son who'd just died...seeing my own daughter just a little younger than his son when he passed...I can't help crying like a baby hearing the song. When you're blessed with having a child of your own, you'll truly understand 1) the love you hear in his voice, but 2) understand just how devastating it would be to lose that little one. I pray to God himself you get to feel the first of those two, and never the latter.

His son was 4 years old, not an infant. It doesn't lessen the tragedy but I wanted to have accurate info out there. To me, it is more tragic losing a son whom you've known for 4 years, who has developed a personality and a relationship with you and then to be suddenly taken from you like that. It's very sad.

Millions of people have cried to this song, knowing why he wrote it. (First how to deal with the grief and shock over losing his son,but then into a pure tribute) This featured in the movie Rush, where one of my favourite actresses Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric (also known from Speed 2 with Sandra Bullock) played 2 cops that went undercover in an important police case. Some of the scenes is when they find themselfs struggling during this time,so they naturally fitted perfectly with Erics lyrics for the music video. It was one of my moms absolute favourite songs, then i lost her to cancer way back in christmas 2002,so i had this song played on the day of her funeral (little christmas eve). I have continued to have this played on her birthday ever since too.

This is even more melancholy and sad than you even imagined. AS others have noted it was written in memory of his son who died tragically, falling out of a window in NYC. Clapton was not at that home at the time. It is unbelievable that the person who co-wrote Sunshine of Your Love, Layla, and Bell Bottom Blues, could write such a different style of masterpiece.

This song is about the death of Eric Clapton's 4 year old son Conor. On March 20th 1991, Eric Clapton's 4-year-old son Conor, died after falling from the 53rd-floor window of a New York City apartment building. Eric Clapton was due to arrive to pick up Conor for a day out, this time to the Bronx Zoo and lunch at an Italian restaurant when tragedy struck. Conor was running around the apartment on the 53rd-floor in the New York high-raise his mother shared with Italian film producer Silvio Sardi, excited to see his “papa.” A janitor had been working on the windows in the living room but one was still open. “Eric called out to the nanny to watch the child, but before she could react, Conor dashed past her, jumped up on to the low window-ledge where he’d normally press his nose against the glass to gaze out and disappeared,”

This story and song makes me cry.. I am the father of four and I cannot imagine the pain at a loss like this. A real gut punch!!!!! Eric was a big time doper and drinker back in the day. Yet he stayed straight & sober after this horrible event...... My hat off to the man!!!!! My oldest son was in a head-on car crash one evening. And it scared the crap out of me.... Thank you GOD for protecting him. O.K. pretty & young bass girl, I thought of one for you. It is Mr. Jack Bruce. He was the bassist in the band Cream. There are videos of him playing a fret less bass. Eric also was in this band. One of the three times he was voted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame... That band was Cream. Check them out. "Sunshine of your Love" was a big hit for them!!!!! That was their first song I remember.... It was way before your time, love.... You will not be sorry!

lifelong lover of rock music, Slash has cited many players in his time as heroes. One man he’s regularly spoke about is Eric Clapton. He even calls Cream’s psychedelic masterpiece ‘Sunshine of Your Love’, the song that made him pick up the guitar. He told Music Radar: “This is the record I was listening to when I chose to play guitar. While he was talking to me, he was playing ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’, including the Clapton solo bit. When I heard that, I was like, ‘That’s what I wanna do!’ So that’s how I started playing guitar.”

Hey Millie, for more Clapton try the album Derek and the Dominos, Layla and other assorted love songs. I think it is his best album. They only made this one album. Of course Layla is an all time classic. The song Bell Bottom Blues is one of my favorites. I am sure you will enjoy this album. 😊🎉❤

Beautiful song!!! It is hard for me to listen to as I lost a 3 month old to a preventable accident. Eric's son Conner was 50 floors up. Playing hide and seek in a building that was exempt from the new building standards of safety. Went to hide behind the curtain and the window had been opened for cleaning.

Lost my son, he was 25. I wore his dog tag for a while. But the sound of the tag moving when I slept, nightmares. And I wore dog tags for 6 years, so I was used to the sound. It's a different sound now.
