And to think of the skill and versatility of The Band knowing how to back each of the legends that came to play with them that night. The musicality was simply unmatched.

When it comes to playing , Clapton isn't stingy on stage . He lets everyone have their own part .

This was a highlight in a show of highlights. You can hear the audience losing their minds during Clapton's solo at the end.

Eric drifted through the 1970s pretty much drunk. But this performance showed that he still had it.

This is so outstanding, an amazing performance from 1976, while making the concert film, The Last Waltz, featuring Eric and The Band. A collaboration of extremely talented musicians, having a fun time and making a masterpiece of great Rock and Roll. 🎶🎶🎶 Delightful. Groovy and great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Scott. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Well not exactly, Clapton went to Woodstock to meet with The Band. When he introduces Robbie into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, he confessed he actually went there to ask to become a member, but didn't have the nerve to ask. Thats when Robbie was wondering did he want to take his place or was he suggesting 2 lead guitarist. Clapton never answered.

Thank you Harri for this wonderful reaction to the Band and Eric Clapton. The “ Last Waltz” is considered the best Music movie/documentary ever, directed by the great Martin Scorsese. Most of the music legends were present, from the Staples, Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Emmylou Harris, Paul Butterfield, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Hawkins, etc,,, to the Band of course with Bob Dylan and his Rock’n’Roll kick ass song : “Baby let me follow you down” just after “ Forever Young” and the finale with all guests artists singing “ I shall Be Released”.

Both Eric and Robbie used music as an escape. Of course they were both talented beyond belief. Both had less than ideal childhoods. Robbie grew uo with a very physically abusive stepfather, he would beat Robbie, Robbie's dog (which Robbie never forgave him for) and his mother. Robbie wrote in his book, I would escape to my room and listen to and play musci, my isolation felt good to me. When he was 13 his mother had enough of the abuse and divorced Jim Robertson that is when Robbie learned his real dad, who was killed before Robbie was born, was Jewish, Robbie's mother was Mohawk and Cayuga. Eric Clapton grew up thinking his grandparents were his parents, and his his uncle was his brotheer. When, I think as a teenager, he was aware of who his real mother was, he asked her if he could call her Mom, and she answered, we better leave things the way they are, he was very hurt by that, he had half siblings, and felt very rejected, although he loved his grandparents and felt they did the best the could, and I think they were supportive of his musical ambitions. Robbie stepdad was not, but his mother was and later on when Robbie got a job playing with Ronnie Hawkins, some of the guys would stay at Robbie's mother's house, she charged reasonable rates and apparently she was quite a cook. His stepfather told him, when Robbie talked about his ambitions, 'that don't happen to people like us", Robbie resented that, had it not been for his mother's encouragemeent we might not have know of Robbie Robertson! Although I do believe music was so much in his soul he would have found a way one way or the other.

The irony of this is Clapton once inquired about joining The Band. Robbie's response at the time was 'what would I be doing then?' Obviously it didn't happen, but guessing Robbie felt a little threatened by that at the time.

Eric Clapton went to visit The Band when they were living in Woodstock, in the Big Pink house. He was with Cream at the time, and when he heard The Band, it blew him away, he wanted to join them. However, when he visited he never got up the nerve to ask Robbie, it was only years later when he introduced Robbie into the Rockin Roll Hall of Fame that he told Robbie. Robbie then asked did you want to replace me or did you think there were room for us both according to Robbie Eric never answered.d

wild guess that's the drummer of the Eagles, hmm but the drummer was the singer on Hotel California, and i probably know his face and it's not him. "The Band's drummer and vocalist Levon Helm" Well he toured with Joe Walsh of The Eagles or Eagles, so i'm not totally stupid, ok i am.

My favorite part of this performance is when Clapton’s strap comes undone and Robbie notices it, and without missing a beat starts to play his own solo, which is far superior to anything Clapton can play, and Clapton’s expression is like, “oh shit!”
