This was my Senior Prom theme in 1992... I took a friend, a beautiful blonde, to the Prom with me... We remained friends all these years... She passed away in March of 2022, at 47 years of age.... When I hear this song, I think of her,and that magical night we spent together... Music holds the memories for you...❤❤❤

This song was written for his then wife "Pattie " who he married when she divorced her husband George Harrison who wrote many songs about her. She had about 7 songs written about or for her between Eric and George. Amazing they were still best friends until George died of cancer.

You wouldn't know from the finished product, but Clapton started writing this song while waiting for his wife to get ready for a party. She was taking forever, and Clapton, like most husbands, was exasperated with how long it was taking. However, when he later started finishing the song, he realized that, though fed up with waiting, his wife ended up looking great and taking pains to be charmingly sociable at the party, and he bent the tenor of the song into a beautiful love poem for his wife.

I am mostly a country & oldies fan; however, this is my #1 favorite song of any genre. It's sweet, it's mellow & it gently describes a beautiful loving couple & I never tire of it. The album version does not have the woman at the end.

While she was still married to Harrison, his friend Eric Clapton became infatuated with her and wrote, "Layla" about her. She left George for Eric, who wrote "Wonderful Tonight" about her while she was his wife. One woman + two different men = three hit songs.

One of the most romantic songs in rock. I love it. Even more, it's that rare song about a couple who has been together a while, not just now falling in love.

That part she did doesn’t come on the studio version of this song. I love how they added that part. Eric is a fine bluesman....That being said, you'd think a "God" could play more than one scale over a 50 year career. Not his fault,or anything he can control...just casual fans and non musicians tend to overrate him a bit. In the history of recorded music, there's tons of fine players...so putting him in the top 100 is really saying something. Putting him in a top 10 though,is not only nonsense,it takes away from other players who worked really hard to become vastly more technically proficient. So,we can be real,and still do it without trashing him in any way.
