I actually really liked Godzilla 2014. But I loved Godzilla King of the Monsters.

I think that the 2014 film did better with scaling the monsters and making them look like giant creatures but 2019 had better action scenes

i personaly really liked the first one. the mystery of godzilla being in the background, never knowing where he is and not knowing what he was doing. its alot more scary. And it builds lots of tension. but the new one is alot more like a godzilla film.

I didn’t see the 2014 movie in the theatre, I saw it in my house when I was 7 years old and that movie made me become a G-fan and I’m a very proud one too. I did see the 2019 movie in the theatre but it was at a cinemark in XD and I loved it a lot better than the 2014 one

I strongly disagree on calling the MUTOs non-unique Cloverfield rip-offs, and the actors in King of the Monsters were fantastic in my opinion, especially Millie Bobby Brown and Ken Watanabe. But yes, King of the Monsters wins!

2014 had more of a horror element to it. Mostly showing the destruction, and aftermath of the damage these monsters cause, and are mostly focusing on the perspective of Humans. Meanwhile 2019 has more of a action element to it, while also taking into the beauty of the monsters (mostly Mothra, and Godzilla), while also having this chaotic element with some of the monsters (Mostly Ghidorah, and Rodan). While also mostly focusing on the perspective of the Monsters instead of the Humans. Also Boston gets leveled by a Super Godzilla Bomb, and San Francisco doesn’t. *(Forgot to mention that part.)*

I fully agree with pretty much everything you said here. I did enjoy Godzilla 2014 when I saw it in cinemas but on reflection I do believe I overhyped it a lot at the time, and I've never had the urge to watch it again. But I absolutely loved King of the Monsters and would happily watch it again. To me this was the perfect blockbuster Godzilla movie, as it was well crafted, had a serviceable script and characters and paid respect to it's roots whilst being it's own film. As a semi fan of the original series, this was a real love letter. Michael Dougherty is also a severely underrated director, I've found all of his films so far to be really good. It's a real shame that KotM isn't doing well at the box office, I really hope it doesn't have any huge negative effects on the upcoming Monsterverse films.

Definitely agree Wasn't a fan of Godzilla before, now I'm MORE hyped for Godzilla vs king Kong However the fight scenes could be more raw and honestly I'm tired of seeing some type of military in these movies, it's gotten stale and is kinda unnecessary overall 7/10

King of the Monsters is just too good. Its my second favorite movie this year so far. Honestly my first is Spider-Man: Far From Home. But I was so exited through KOTM. The battles were amazing. Ghidorah was so evil ! Mothra was Epic !! Rodan was amazing !!! And Godzilla was God !!!! The movie was God. Long live Godzilla, King of the Monsters !!!!

Star Wars isn't called Darth Vader, and Vader isn't the primary reason people watch those movies. It's about more than Darth Vader as Vader is simply one piece of a much larger story with other characters. Godzilla, on the other hand... Godzilla IS the reason people watch Godzilla movies. So... I don't think your comparison really works. Also... I... I never thought I would also see or hear a film reviewer actually say that Godzilla 1998 did something BETTER than the 2014 film... but... it happened. Oh, who am I kidding, the 1998 film also had more entertaining human characters as well. Not necessary better written characters, but at least I remembered them. Plus, it had Jean Reno as Philippe Roache, the French Secret Agent guy. He was cool. I think the 98 film also had better music, but that's my personal preference. Still King of the Monsters 2019 is definitely a superior movie to BOTH previous efforts on nearly all fronts. And Legendary Ghidorah is now my #1 favorite Ghidorah, displacing Grand King Ghidorah from Rebirth of Mothra 3.

From what I read on Wikipedia about KOTM, the reviews are mixed due to the critics criticising the pacing, story, tone and human characters, but praising everything else as this movie should be a masterpiece of a Godzilla movie.

King Of The Monsters has become my personal favorite movie of all time, being basically everything I could ask for in a movie. Throw in my nostalgia and personal connections towards Godzilla as well as KOTM as a movie, and, for me, it becomes my favorite movie ever.

I subscribed ! this video was great! Even as a hard core Godzilla fan, I've been sick of hearing people making excuses for the poor direction in 2014 for years, yes, that film had some genuinely amazing moments and I respect how it helped kick in this new age of kaiju cinema, but overall it was a disappointing mess of wasted potential... Godzilla King of the Monsters in my mind is everything 2014 wasn't, should have been, and far far more ! It exceeded my expectations by allot ! It is genuinely entertaining, super well paced and awe inspiring through out it's entirety. The monsters are true to the originals, and are so captivating to watch and full of personality. I love it ! Even though I'm not a fan of the 2014 one, I will give it one point over your rating and give it a 3-4/10 , as I admire it for at least trying to do something differently, even though it failed (plus every scene with Brian Cranston was gold)... I'm also giving King of the Monsters higher rating by one point than you, just because that film brought so much joy to my life, and the fan base in general, I'm giving it at a strong 9/10 ( I'd only really disagree with you about some of the characters in King of the Monsters I think they all genuinely did great, especially Ken, and King of the Monsters was far more stunning then Aquaman...)

Godzilla 2014 gives the unique post apo feeling that you can't replicate while KOTM is a classic Godzilla film but with modern CGI.

Disagree with you on Godzilla appearing by the bridge in the first film. You can clearly see when he stands up that the water is too shallow for him to continue swimming. The sequence we are given in my opinion is absolutely spellbinding. The CGI and camera work are incredible. I'd say it's probably my favourite Godzilla sequence in film ever.

Dude when I watched Godzilla: King Of The Monsters I was smiling when the action was happening all the time

G14 a 2/10? I mean i agree with all of your complaints, but it wasnt that bad. The Cinematography was beautiful and in my opinion better than G19. The Soundtrack was pretty good, The first 30 min. Are awesome. And here and there are a few really great scenes. And if you watch it from a perspective of an Soldier, then some of those scenes are a little bit more fun to watch. I like it that the movie wasnt as messy as G19. No fast Editing, no Shakey Cam. I give it a 7/10. G19 is good, but it wasnt that much better of a film. The Story is a mess, People standing in Rooms looking at Monitors, a weird Terrorist Storyline. Everytime the Monsters are fighting there are some humans in the picture...That drives me Crazy. And there wasnt much of Rodan and Mothra. The Cinematography wasnt as good as in G14. I give it a 7.5/10

You have to admit that the sound design for the first Godzilla was absolutely brilliant. It really made the monsters sound incredibly huge. I would say that it stands out more than the sound design in the second movie, but that's only because the first one barely has anything in it, so when something good does happen, it stands out a lot more than anything else in the movie

If you cut out all the Godzilla parts and ideas in 2014 it would be called “ the movie”
