WOW! I've watched many of Eric's Versus videos, and never has he already givin the winner of the video in the beginning. It was at that moment, I knew he was really pissed. Let's be honest, we all knew this show was a disaster as soon as the original creators left. But truth being told, I doubt it would have been better even if they stayed. Would it be slightly better? Yeah, but not much. I just don't think any live action adaption will out beat the animated show. Even with the creators. As the old saying goes, "you can't recreate lightning in a bottle twice." Although, I do have faith in their sequel movie they are planning! Hey, as long as the creators are involved in THAT! There's no doubt in my mind it will be good!

The crazy thing about this is I saw when people were talking about this series they were trying to compare it to Kora when they shouldn't because the timelines are different.

When I watched the live action one piece, during the fight with ax hand morgans their was a moment where for one second the anime flashed in front of me matching their poses, even though they never hit those same poses in the manga or anime. I had no such experience with the live action avatar.

Guys remember when netflix made a good live action adaptation? Let the netflix one piece writers cook.

I like the Netflix series and all. But let’s be honest it had zero chance of EVER being anywhere near better than the animated show. I literally just wanted it to be better than the horrible live action movie because nothing will ever top the OG for me.

I think whats being ignored here is this is still miles better than MOST atrocities of adaptations. We seen just how bad it can get with the movie. I have my complaints but i also have a functioning brain that understands 22 episodic style cartoons are not going to easily translate into streaming style 8 episodes. This needed atleast 10-12 so those middle two episodes arent packed with 5-6 plots. The changes were hit or miss but honestly the change to zuko's crew being the unit that he defended that got him banished was a good change. Rather than his dad just randomly banishing a unit for zero reason to go with Zuko. And the kyoshi thing...bro come on that is just pure butt hurt nonsense that scene was dope and it was on kyoshi island...they didnt replace roku it was a completely different fight, if anything the unagi got replaced. They had the chance to still do the roku moment at the temple but they shoe horned june instead which yeah dumb choice. All in all this just comes off as super butt hurty and thats coming from someone that is overly critical and a fan of this show for decades. Expecting it to rival the animated series is just nonsensical to begin with it was never going to come close but in terms of adaptations this is on the upper end of that scale take that how you will because yeah its a low bar but its a start.

I will say from what news I have heard. The original creatives wanted to do NEW things and I think the new additions are actually really good. Its what they change not what they add that I feel was pretty bad.

I think one of the show's biggest problems that no one talks about is how the show will sometimes assume the viewer saw the original show in detriment of its own story Example: Mai and Ti Lee, these two in the entire season do NOTHING important and are not even given names, now of course the fans of the original would know who these characters are, but new viewers who didn't see the original show would see them has pointless characters who didn't deserve screentime. There is Also the Gran Gran exposition scene that is supposed to mimic the intro of the OG show, for the fans of the original it's (supposed to be) an homage to the original show, but for the viewer (who was already given another exposition scene prior), this is an extremely redundant and pointless exposition scene. And the examples don't stop there. - Azula and Zhao are introduced by menacing music when their names ( and not their title and role) are first brought up in their introduction scene, for fans of the OG show those are recognizable characters who's roles we already know, but in the show the viewer doesn't even know their title yet, so they will be confused on why they are presented so menacingly when they didn't even do anything. - there are other examples such has Hei Bai in the OG show we know that Aanga attempt to calm him worked but in the new one, the viewer doesn't know so it leads the viewer to think this storyline is unfinished. - For Kho the face stealer the Netflix version does not explain that Ko will steal the face of anyone who shows the smallest bit of emotions which leads the moment where Aang confronts him to be less tense. - and the last example (that I admit is a bit nitpicky) Jun Liking Iroh instead of the opposite is a good gag for OG fans but not for new viewers who might confused has to why this rather young lady would like such an old man. This problem is rather stupid since the goal of this new adaptation is to introduce a new audience to avatar, yet they have a bunch of moments that you need to watch the OG to get. Which is extremely weird.

Avatar The Last Airbender season 1 still holds up almost 20 years later while the live action version has aged like milk after a few months. I have no hope seasons 2 or 3 will come close to matching the cartoon. While season 2 and 3 of the cartoon is better than the first season, I wouldn't be surprised if the live action version's second and third seasons is worse than the first season.

Quick Fun Fact: When the actor who played Xiao auditioned, he thought that he was auditioning for James Cameron’s Avatar. I laughed when I heard that because it explains a lot. I would honestly argue that there are certain things that even 2010 does better than the Netflix version such as the action/pacing and the visuals effects on the bending. I just looked at the bending visual effects for 2024 and it just seems so obviously fake to me and the action is all over the place, it can be quick and it can be slow making it very inconsistent. Additionally, I don’t know how many other people noticed, the action has a LOT of slo-mo effects which makes the action extremely cheap. Again, even 2010 knew when to relax with the slo-mo effects. But that’s just my opinion.

I think we all agree that the animated series is superior in every way regardless on what we think of the live action version. Anyways, I cannot wait for the Aang The Last Airbender. Even if most of the voice cast isn’t coming back and they must move the release date away from January 2026. ATLA is not a franchise that should have an installment that should be launched in January.

FINALLY A VERSUS VIDEO....and not any vs, THE VERSUS ONE I WANTED THE MOST....glorious purpose indeed. Man can't agree MORE, I couldn't finish the live action netflix, I watch ep1 to 3 and I HAVE TO STOP, I couldn't handle the bad writing, horrible execution of amazing scenes of the OG, bad choreography and lack of comedy, how the supposed mature version is so CHILDISH while the version for kids...........is the one that is actually MATURE.....man only X-MEN 97 have pull this off somehow, non other thing that I remember watching been for kids have done the transition to more adult than that show now. We all knew the moment Michael Di Martino and Bryan Konietzko leaved this project was doom, but damn this was worst to endure than the LAST AIRBENDER.....at least as painful that one was....was 1h 43 minutes film......this show is almost as length as the cartoon with less episodes, feel like is rushing and the pacing and tone are horrible and is BORING, at least the M.Night film was unironically funny, you laugh at how bad some scenes and expositions and fights where, this not even have that, is just bad, better looking and more close to the show....but still horrible.

I actually thought the Kioshi scene was better than the Rokku scene. The part were she screams a reality check on Aang is very powerful to me and a great addition that the OG show didn't have.

Book 1 may have been not the best but book 2 and 3 I hope Netflix does well
