I would like to know a little bit more about why we don't want scapular retraction. I thought strength/endurance in the rhomboids, low/med traps was of great importance for posture and shoulder health. What am I not seeing?

I never trust anything these KZfaq fitness guys say when they can't be bothered to answer a simple question in seven years time.

You can also do them standing against a door frame. Make sure your pressed up againts it and you can also feel when your scapula is retracting

what about seperating scapular & humeral motion with retracting the shoulder blades throughout the whole exercise, from the beginning to the end? is doing so bad for the scapulohumeral rhtym?
@_Only_Zuul5 жыл бұрын
i still can't figure out how to do these properly...so i should just be pulling the band apart with my scapular protracted??? or starting protracted and then finishing each rep retracted squeezing the upper back muscles together??? when i do band pull aparts on the roller i can't feel a damn thing at all. i have a very messed up scapular my whole upper back is literally a blank space of nothing. so it's been quite difficult for me to get the feeling right and my upper back is so small and undeveloped compared to my lower body.

Using the foam roller instantly made my pull aparts feel better

Thanks for the tip, ive been doing 100 pullaparts a day and more for about a month and my shoulders are already feeling better, rugby league injuries have almost stopped me from playing im hoping i can get them back to almost 100 percent
@andrewevans7992 Жыл бұрын
Did you manage to get them fixed?
@10NA89 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewevans7992 I played for another 4 years with managable shoulder issues. I still do alot of gym and if i ever start getting shoulder issues i go back to band pullaparts everyday with high volume. Works for me atleast. I had labrum surgery 11 years ago and since have split both ac joints and done extra damage through rugby but so far the band work is good.

@@10NA89 wow im actually surprised you wrote back lol, I have a really good upperback/ rear delts but my scapula is fucked on my right side. It’s slowly getting better over time cause i cant feel my right pec activate, over time im starting to but did it ever fix your posture? Or pull your shoulders back so youre using more chest instead of front delts? I watch some powerlifters like, james strickland he says he does them every day. Thats what i been doing myself.. its my last hope lol
@10NA89 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewevans7992 my posture had always been good so i cant really comment, give it a go and give it a few weeks of dedication and see if it works for you i guess

So you don’t emphasize external rotating pull apart?

Wait so you want to do the movement leading with arms and feel scapular retraction afterwards?

It's bad to lead with scapular retraction?

I want to believe this is true but doing them this way gives me a stiff neck and tension headache. Wish I understood
@dperez3086 жыл бұрын
This kinda stuff just causes headaches guys yea Eric is smart and successful but still the basics are better sometimes I remember when he used to preach scapular push ups and now there's a video he has were he doesn't like them anymore..guys just do some regular push ups cause they worked for years
@smockytubers11886 жыл бұрын
Did you actually watch the video? He says it's not that they're bad, it's just they're more advanced than he used to believe. Particularly for an audience watching on KZfaq that probably doesn't have someone monitoring their serratus/pec minor activity, I think it's a totally valid statement. That said, you're kinda right. Don't ever let anyone else just overrule your common sense because "I'm a world famous trainer." Poliquin for years tried saying that Squats and Deadlifts activate your core as well as if not better than anything and are all you need. Hell he might even still be saying that to this day, despite countless anecdotal testimonies, general scientific understanding of the many facets of the "core", and actual hard EMG evidence to the contrary. If it doesn't make sense, don't do it. A world famous expert trainer should be able to explain why it works, and should never need to pull the "Listen I'm a top tier trainer" card.

dperez308 hes trying to train scapulo humersl rhythym within the joint socket, when you pull the blades down and back is how you develop dyskinesis

Do you really have to over-complicate a simple exercise like that? Why is it bad to have a little scapula retraction while doing this?
@ZenGrammy9 жыл бұрын
It isn't an overcomplication to cue correct positioning and movement. Countless folks are injured over time by performing "simple" exercises incorrectly. What do you have against his showing us the best way to do this?
@kartiloco99299 жыл бұрын
Penthesilea I don't have anything against it :) Maybe I was just mad because I realized I've been doing it wrong :-D

@Sha0linShadowb0xing8 жыл бұрын
+Karti Loco Actually there should be scapular retraction to an extent..you just need to activate your shoulder joint before packing your scapula. If you start packing your scapula too much with only shoulder movement youll create bad movement patterns in general
