I’ve been in the consulting space for about 25 years and for the most part I’ve enjoyed my career, but there was a time where I almost quit. In this video I’ll tell that story and explain why I didn’t quit.

Reflections that I completely share. I wish you success, my path has been similar and the real satisfaction has always been to have always worked according to conscience and to have built good relationships. But the money has always gone elsewhere. In general, clients have turned to me after the money had already been thrown away with the "Sponsored" consultants! Thanks again, If I were younger I would send my c.v.

The corp I work for needs your help. We desperately need a PMO consulting firm and my director asked me finally last week if I know any.

I have become technology agnostic. After long years staying in one type technology it is psychologically not fulfilling. It benefits consulting firms me becoming a machine but it drains too much of juice from me. So I feel better now . Problem is after many decades ERP,s are still horrible , consultant are forced take certain position even though it is not viable and is a risk till last moment. It has been become a ritual of some kind. Keeping confidence on the product mostly works in my experience after all which could have dealt from the beginning itself. It is forcing Consultant to behave like salesman

Mr Kimberling thank you for sharing this, me i started my consulting company here Germany , because i wanted to have another approach for solving typical problems in IT industry, things like iterative implementation , requirements engineering first. Way to many companies in Germany just stuck with outdated workflow and technologies, in Germany we have lots and lots companies which work with vbs or even vba and stuff like microsoft access , unbelievable but true. Then my believe that writing clean code may help to improve the quality of software, too many times i see companies which didn't written any test in like years, nobody knows how exactly theirs "framework" works , and there like 0 docu about the project. The worst thing more and more senior devs getting out and go to pansion and German companies are struggling to find somebody suitable. My company we help with software development and we teach people , so that they can be productive , when they are hired. So this it and i love negotiating its one of the skill which learned by practice. ;)

This is why (as a life long governmental employee) I'm excited now to enter the business supply chain space as sustainability is finally being taken seriously, and awaiting my 2nd interview with a firm focused on co-visioning with clients/partners to assure their data and business intelligence needs are front-and-center in their sustainability goals. I think with the maturation of the public's understanding and new gen understanding of what is capable via technology, that the paradigm is shifting for businesses to be more responsive and customized to customer needs as well as the poignant concerns over eco and labor issues that can no longer be eschewed. ... This was a great confessional and sharing of your valuable experience. Thank you.

I have observed very similar tendencies on my career path, especially the effects of juxtaposed motivation drives 'by design' in the consulting industry. More billable hours = consultants celebrate and the client cries 😅

The Big 4 work you like a dog, you get burn out from long hours (unpaid). If you don't do the extra free hours, you are shamed as being not a team player. The carrot of partnership where the big money is always thrown in your face

This my exact experience right now, I'm learning things sure, but only at the surface level. I wanted to understand business logic and why we're doing what we're doing but it's impossible to get clarity like that. SAP is also quite a dated technology that shouldn't have such a big monopoly on ERP

@@HarshvardhanKanthode SAP is an ERP giant. I have 15 years of experience in it. It costs a fortune to implement and maintain, user license costs are large too. I worked for one of the Big 4 and morality is poor. I was ordered to steal user documentation from another client (who had paid for it), they would do a bulk change of client name on the documentation and charge the other client millions of dollars as if they had written it from scratch. I refused and weas sacked within 3 weeks for not being a team player
