I got my hands on the Onvis Kameleon K1 light strip before it launched here in the US months ago, and I'm excited to share my experience now. It's a cool new LED light strip with a rainbow animation I love. 🌈

Very cool Eric. I still have no need for wacky color lights around my house…but if I ever find a reason to add some I’ll keep these in mind. Thanks for the content. Good stuff as usual.

Fantastic review Mr. Welander! I really dig mine that I put on the back of my iMac. I don't care much for the app, so I tend to use the physical controller which is pretty sweet. I got another one that is looking for a good home somewhere around the new house.

Great Video! I have a question about the voice controls. I would like to create a music mode with colors that I determined before hand and be able to activate it with voice controls. is something like that possible?

Eric, do you remember/know if the individual segments can be separately addressed in HK automations? I want to have the strip turn on sequentially starting at one end or the other triggered by a motion sensor so it lights the way as you walk down a path. Or is that achievable with the scene export function in the Onvis app? Thanks in advance!

I’m considering getting a set but have a couple of questions. What is the spacing of the distance between cut locations? How many pins are needed for cutting/inserting no light extensions?

Great review! While I have this too, it was great to watch. Totally agree with your comment on thread, I’d like to think this might be something they can just turn on down the road…but guessing no. Have you done much with the microphone and getting it to react to sound? I’ve not, just heard about it but was curious if you had done anything with it, similar to what Nanoleaf does. Keep up the great work!

Yeah honestly I'm not really into the music syncing modes on these products so I don't talk much about them. While I like what Nanoleaf is doing there, I generally don't think I appreciate the feature enough to properly critique it.

Nice desk cable management 😂 You showed a cherry blossom scene from Onvis. Can you make a HomeKit scene with animated lighting from Nanoleafs aswell as another animated device and also the animated lighting scene from onvis? I cannot find anyone who addresses this topic.. I love the animated lighting feature, but it just doesn’t make any sense to me, if I need 3 scenes for any animated Nanoleaf scene that I have right now.

Great vid! Eric, do the scenes you save in the Onvis app automatically sync with the Apple Home app? Or how does one set up animated scenes?

The Onvis app talks to HomeKit so you will see it in the Home app as well. Creating and managing scenes in the Onvis app gives you the ability to link Onvis custom animations to specific scenes

Great review. I want to ask if you had noticed any buzzing or humming coming from the controller. I ran into another video of these light strips and they made it sound like the controller made a buzzing noise when the light settings were changing. If there is a buzz, how loud is it?

I have not heard a buzz in the 2 meter or 5 meter units Onvis sent me

Great Review!! I'm using this Lightstrip about 6 weeks now. Really like it, but there a a couple of Problems. The App isn't made for all iPhones. On my iPhone SE I can't scroll down completely, so the last slider (brightness in this case) isn't in reach for me. The Multi Color Scenes in HomeKit are really buggy and often don't work for me when treggered with a Scene in the Home App. And as you mentioned I would love to see thread on these Lightstrip. The WLAN Connections disconnects multiple times a day on this device and I have to re power it. Has somebody any Idea how I cant fix that? While there are some things the company should work on I really like that LED Strip. The Effects are awesome and the overall Light (Multi Color and Single Color) really are saturated and bright. Really nice.

Thanks for sharing. That's a bummer the app doesn't work well for you and you are having responsiveness issues. If you are able to check for a firmware update, that might fix your responsiveness / network issues like it did for me. When I trigger my multi color scene I almost always do it with Siri and it works fine.

Just returned to Amazon after 10 minutes. This is absolutely insane, so bad. 4,7w in standby and 10/18 turned ok. My merros is 0.3w in standby and 4,7/8 turned on. So, my merros requires for working the same energy of the onvis in standby!!

These Onvis light strips have turned out to be the least reliable light strips I've had. I have four sets of these in two separate homes. All four of these have disconnected from wifi multiple times in the last year or so. Whenever this happens it requires removal from the Onvis App, factory defaulting, adding back into the Onvis app and then Apple Home. Then I have to set up the lights all over again. I'm done with these. All four have disconnected for the last time. It took a couple of weeks but the last two disconnected at the same time the other night making all four sets inoperative. I won't be adding them back in.
