I experienced this video projected on the wall of an ancient, cavernous abbey in Belgium. The music bounced through the vaults and ancient columns of that beautiful space. It was one of the most magical moments of my life.

Whitacre uses dissonance in ways I have never heard. Almost every thing he does involves dissonance. Yet he manages to make the sound of voices clashing beautiful. It is a particular talent.

My choir teacher's wife brought in their infant daughter in a carriage and placed her tenderly on the piano. She looked stressed and worn out and the baby looked fussy. We were all hanging out and they asked us to be quiet enough to let the baby sleep. They went into the office to talk. The baby grew fussy and started to whimper. Our choir very softly sang "Sleep" to her and by the end, we noticed the teachers standing behind us, teary eyed. The baby had fallen asleep. I will remember it forever

Interesting how, with so many voices, the vowels are not as rounded, yet the sound is even richer and deeper. One of the most sonically incredible ideas I've ever heard.

This song relies on dissonance and while our choir, which worked with Whitacre, did try to go for the perfect harmony, I think this is a beautiful version of the song. The dissonance with the off timing and less rounded adds a whole new element

Taylork64 Music is so intricately designed, yet is so beautiful and so far past the horizon of understanding that any and all cultures have music involved in their daily lives. Music already ties the people of the world together, and even the universe in its sounds cried out, creating a musical vallehalah for whatever lies beyond that glorious expanse of infinity... Just said a neat thing there d: Hope you enjoyed

The evening hangs beneath the moon A silver thread on darkened dune With closing eyes and resting head I know that sleep is coming soon Upon my pillow, safe in bed A thousand pictures fill my head I cannot sleep my minds a flight And yet my limbs seem made of lead If there are noises in the night A frighting shadow, flickering light Then I surrender unto sleep Where clouds of dreams give second sight What dreams may come both dark and deep Of flying wings and soaring leap As I surrender unto sleep As I surrender unto sleep

It will surely happen one day. If you look at the progression of human civilization it has been a slow and long process of unification. We started with families, then went to tribes, and then nations, and now we're in the process of continental unification and even intercontinental. I think this will keep happening but at a quicker rate in the next few decades and into the next century.

I just discovered Eric Whitacre last week while listening to Morten Lauridsen. I am beyond words after listening to this. He is incredibly gifted at capturing emotion through voice and lyrics. I was so moved to tears the first time I listened to this that I searched for more of his work. His projects with virtual choirs are not only amazing technically, but more so for bringing thousands of voices together from around the world in peace and harmony...literally. His talents are part of our national heritage and a gift to anyone who listens.

This is a perfect example of how strangers all over the world, from different cultures, races and religions can create something beautiful. Now if the rest of us can follow their example, the world woul be a better place for ALL of us to live in. We are all just people. Human beings that despite our differences are all part of the same family. I hope that one day we all, ALL OF US, can live in the harmony that was beautifully presented here. Yes. It is late right now and I'm ready for sleep. My mind wandered into the heavenlies, picturing my Creator and his beautiful Orchestra of different peoples around the world finally being able to rest from their weariness of this planet and singing together in harmony...rest. "After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!” Revelation 7:9‭-‬12 NIV bible.com/bible/111/rev.7.9-12.NIV

Nothing can even come close to being as moving as music such as this is. Music brings us together and allows us to feel in ways that life cannot do without it.

Music one of the few threads that can tie humanity together. I think this project and video perfectly embody that concept. People from all over the world can unite under music, and for even a brief moment share a moment of harmony.

I have sung many songs, listen to many...and read about many. But...this song, it brought floods of tears to my eyes. I could not stop crying. To see the world, join in on something that has nothing to do with politics, or money or war. It was too good to be true, but here it plays before me, and all I can say is, pure joy, expressed love, heartrending emotions. Music is the gateway to new paths everywhere, and now, I want to go down more of them then ever before. Thank you Eric Whitacre.

I know this from the TED . It's really amazing! I haven't be part of the choir more than 12 years. It remains me the feeling of the music is still in the deep of my heart. I wish I could be a member of the virtual choir 3.0. But I think I need to prove my english first then find some friends have a common goal.

I just want to say Eric you are such a Mastermind when is comes to music, I sang this in high school. It was still new, very fresh, not many sang this song before us kind of thing. And now almost 9 years later, I still fully enjoy and am mesmerised by the demographics and beautifulness of this piece. I still remember every line, every note from when I sang it and I doubt I will ever forget it. It truly is one of my most favorite songs of all time. ❤️

Watching all the virtual choirs in my college library and I'm trying not to cry from this beautiful music. Eric Whitacre and many others are my inspirations to work harder on my music. I had shown this video to my boyfriend who has never heard of the virtual choirs or Eric Whitacre. Now he understands why I love this concept of bringing a bit of the world into one place sharing their love for music and performing wonderful pieces. Eric Whitacre is a true modern musical genius.
