ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes every Tuesday!
OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston area of the United States and sailed south to the Caribbean and then west through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia.
OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via KZfaq and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids.
FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode:

• Everything you've ever...
PLEASE COMMENT!: As a channel with kids on-board, we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. Tell us what you think!
THANKS for watching all. Subscribe and never miss an episode!

Love watching your videos and watching your adventures. Having them so late takes some of the punch out of them though. We know by watching another channel, we knew you had Halloween in Fiji and then a storm came in. You put Archer in a storm protected berth and did OK. We also know you eventually get into Australia because of your very informative video you did. Hope you have a chance to get caught up. Love watching them. it's great seeing you, you family and your boys have so much fun!!

My wife and I are addicted to your video's and adventures. We wished we could have given our son and daughter that kind of life. But it is what it is. Funny thing, we've never sailed a boat, we have no clue what it all means when you describe the winds are apparent, and this and that ... different names of the sails. BUT it doesn't matter. At 70 I'm not about to start sailing (but I do still hike mountains and fly my drones). Thank You and your wonderful family for putting out such perfect videos. We absolutely look forward to each episode !!!
@TheSailingFamily
@TheSailingFamily 3 жыл бұрын
Love your comment! As you say, you really don't need to know, and sailing is really third or fourth, or tenth, in rank of what we are trying to do here. But "True Wind" is what you would feel standing still. But if you walked toward the wind, the "apparent wind" would increase, which is what happens when a sailboat sails up wind too. Since the wind hitting the sails changes, the "apparent wind" becomes the more important measure of the wind speed. I hope that helps!!! ~Seth

Great footage of the surfing, those conditions looked incredible. 12:42 during the birthday party one of the young ladies looked like Kate from Sailing Zatara but I could be wrong as I didn't see her brothers or parents. I've always been a sucker for former race boats being restored as cruisers, but I still love living on a catamaran. My only critique of the 80 footer would be the lack of windows when inside. We sailed so far so that we could experience these places and I feel like you miss so much with a monohull. But that aside, I would trade up for something faster and fancier, if money was no object. Perhaps an HH50 or HH55? The older Gunboats were great too, but require a crew to operate (except the GB48). But, alas, money matters and we're pretty much in our dream boat now. Pinching ourselves every day! ~Seth

Imagine some people from NZ enter Redondo Beach harbor and demand entrance and trash the US on Utube. It would be all over the news. The US had total stop of all entering or trying to enter a yr ago.

Ha. I'm not sure. All over the place.The two in this video are a trucker hat from Paws Up resort (what an incredible place that is!) and my trusty Detroit Tigers Hat (I've always had one)... Thanks for asking!

Couldn't you have sailed to the usa miami ? Normal route north
@TheSailingFamily
@TheSailingFamily 3 жыл бұрын
Not a chance. Miami would require us to sail directly from Fiji, around Australia, south of Africa and across the Atlantic to the US. It is essentially on the other side of the world without stops! ~S

Cyclone season is not a good time to be living on a boat in Fiji. We’re pushing our luck and trying to enjoy life (rather than give up), and we pay for it. Stay tuned.

We had Concept Special Risks. Really liked them but they no longer cover boats in Australia.

As a Kiwi I'm embarrassed that they have used this time as an opportunity to introduce such stand over tactics and as for Australia excepting your money and not permitting entry. Both have shown the world they have no compassion or understanding of the ilnes. But then as you say it was a risk you new you were talking but still, what a world we now live in. Live the dream.🏴‍☠️

I think that showing disrespect toward NZ people and gov publically on utube they dont want you there. I mean I love you guys and all but the channel is public. I am sure people saw your attitudes expressed toward NZ. Being guests made it look really not nice. So forget about NZ. Enjoy. And THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR AWESOME VIDEOS. I WISH you could offer to the people who work at resort to load all yout boats with their kids and bring them to resort. They all done so much for you.

Thanks Cris, appreciate your comments. We are guests, but we also have the right to come and go. We have the right to disagree with how they welcome us, and they have the right to kick us out too. I hope we made it clear that we really appreciated NZ hosting us for the first phase of the pandemic, but that we ultimately decided that for us it was time to move on. It was a risk we took to leave, and they don't owe us anything. That said, I would have hoped more countries would think logically about cruisers and the risk they present when entering. We can comment on those thoughts and share them publicly - as this is basically our journal. This is our life and what happened. It's an interesting perspective, I hope... ~Seth
