I live in Queretaro. Workers aren't going to work fast if you are paying them a weekly salary. If you pay them by the job. An example if you pay them for laying a meter of bricks and only for that meter. Oh, they'll get it done fast. My house was built in 3 months. We paid by the job.

I live in Florida and we had the worst hurricane ever with IAN, a lot of people I work with are still fighting insurance companies for repairs. I'm coming there to get my residency renewal in one week and then moving their permanently with my husband at the end of August can't wait! So many places have hurricanes, floods, fires Etc there is no really safe place to live anymore.

Minute 27:00 🤣😂🤣😂🤣! Our house was supposed to have chases (openings) to pass interior plumbing between floors. The builder misread the plans which showed diametrical locations for the chases based on center of house [it's an octagon] .Instead, they used the diameter as a radius and we ended up with all these plumbing holes on out 2nd floor balcony, despite the to-scale printouts of the drawings with the chases drawn! The funniest one was right above the front door, so water could pour directly on anybody coming to the door. Another time, we had just started living on the second floor while concrete walled balcony railings were being completed. We woke up in the night to heavy rain and suddenly, the second floor started flooding, so we got the futon mattress up and then watched a pretty powerful waterfall pour over the 12' stairwell into an unfinished LR garden area for the next 15 minutes. The guys had forgotten to put drain holes along an exterior wraparound balcony! Floors got clean, though bc the doors we had ordered months before from a Mennonite craftsman in Shipyard got burn up in a fire during the time a moratorium on wood was put in place, so there was no more wood to be had until the moratorium was lifted, so we were living with no doors, which were 6'x8' openings and larger. Di water done rush right out!🤣🤣

This is excellent expectation-setting. It will not be like the US, Canada or Europe. You can buy, build, remodel, or rent and have all these issues. If you can’t handle things not being perfect or vendors not arriving quickly, you’ll be very unhappy. You also need to anticipate having to do a lot of clean up and finishing work yourself after you move in. There will be gaps under doors, windows won’t be sealed, there will be leaks. Warranties might not be honored. Power or internet might be down for days or weeks. That’s just how it is. Funny as the stories are, he’s not exaggerating. It’s better to know this information in advance so you aren’t surprised when these things happen. Great video.

I lived in Guatemala tiny ants running along the floor against the wall. Don't leave sugar out the tiny ants will find it. Clean the dining room table after eating if you don't, those tiny ants crawl up the legs of the table and they are on top if your table looking for food. I did not like it

I saw a miscommunication between the owner the architect and masonry guy, the masonry guys are not gonna listen to home owners because they think they know more than the home owner and 95 porcent of the time they do but they do listen to an architect they don't like it but will listen to but the architect got to tell them

@qwantstotravel We all know that no place is perfect but if I pay my money, I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that. Therefore, I would never move to those countries who don't listen or have other customs (not saying their customs are bad) that I am not willing to adapt to because I will be unhappy. We have to know what we can and can not deal with and for those who can, I am happy for them.

All of that sounds just like what the contractor did to me a my house in the USA. I and the argue constantly because of the sloppy work. Biggest argument is when the contractract tried to convience me that a mirror was not needed in the bathroom. He put up floating shelves instead of a mirror. How can I see to get dressed in the morning?
